No need to make an update for that. If you cannot assist to the war, leave the clan and join afterwards, or don't even join one. It's a justified reason to leave as long as you let the leaders know.
Another story is that you only are in the clan to get troops and thus you don't want to leave...
Not every clan is fully War oriented; if someone is made to leave because they cannot commit to war involvement, they lose not only a place in the clan, but also communication within the game, donation stats, ranks, etc. Sound like too huge a disconnect just because someone couldn't attend a war event.
In any case, it would be responsible for said member to indicate availability, and give notice beforehand.
At first look, this may deny 4 other clan mates looking to participate in war, if the total strength was a rounded number before he/she pulled out. However.. the alternative would be for this member to leave the clan outright.. so no harm done.
This could lead to desirable situations.
- A high leveled clan leader could step out, to allow the lower leveled clan members to head a war event; great for development of war-related skills.
- A low leveled member might opt out if one doesn't feel ready to war
- People with genuine reasons to step out (taking a trip to somewhere with poor internet connections, personal commitments) wouldn't be forced to leave, and could yet contribute to war in terms of donations/advice/etc.
If one should indeed abuse the system a la leeching donations, the clan leader should have the prerogative to kick said member as deemed fit. Donations go both ways, and should continue regardless of war participation. In the case of those unavailable for play (holiday, etc), they would be unable to come online to ask for donations at any rate.
This idea has many pros; cons can be easily rectified/managed by leaders and co-leaders.
Implement it.
apart of me says yes and a part of me says no
clan wars = all your clan vs another. if there's an option to not participate then its not really the whole clan, only a selected few, in a way it feels like a ch34ting to me.
50 clan mates doing 10 v 10 ?
if clan A has 50 clan mates and only selects 10 vs another clan that only just about have 10 clan mates, its not really a fair fight to me. it also doesnt feel like a clanwar, just a group battle.
Doesn't sound unfair at any rate.. if only 10 members out of 50 take part, then the matchmaking system will draw up someone of equal power/level.
Plus, I don't feel like this isn't representative of the clan; 10 or 50, you're still going into battle bearing the flag of your clan. If anything, you'd be more hard-pressed to perform better.
