I am sorry, I have tried really hard, but I do not like the town update! I don't like the communities either. I love my farm and my animals so will just get on with that. Quite like the fishing and often need fish and fish products for my boats, so will just continue with that. I got to level 6 in my town and have not had 1 map. They are even more rare than land markers. Also don't like that nasty, aggressive strong man!
I had difficulty, at first, getting a system that works for the Town. It meant that truck orders have become very limited.
I love my Town now! I'm sorry you don't like it, but you should be fine just farming and fishing.
Sorry to hear you don't like the town and Mr. Strong Circus Man! Must say that the neighborhood that I'm in doesn't have any efficient nor helpful contributing communication, but it's alright.
Your missing Map Pieces seem to be my Hand Drills; so far I've only gotten them by trading so never got one myself I believe. So maybe that's how neighborhoods may come in handy, you could ask around if anyone has got Map Pieces for you (to trade)?
Personally, I like the Town. I needed a few days to get used to it, but at least now I can keep producing premium goods for a purpose rather than just stocking them. I always felt that my premium goods like jams and cakes were too good to use for the Boat and soTruck orders that would ask for more than two, but now I actually serve them to needy Town Visitors :)
I am not sure that I like the town either. It is drastically cutting down on my ability to fill truck orders and boat orders. Therefore fewer XP and less frequent level up. I am trying to figure out what benefit there is to doing the town. It is a bit of a puzzle to see if I can optimize functioning of the town, which is entertaining, in a way.
Even if I stop bothering with the town, I cannot change the fact that the town has significantly changed the game. There is absolutely nothing of any value for sale in the newspaper any more, and people are much more stingy with their boat help. This is forcing me to play the style of game where I have to make everything for myself and keep everything for myself, NOT a style I enjoy playing.

I like the town a lot and look forward to all that could develop there. For sure it isn't the farm and it does seem to be changing things re the dd and boat help. It's worth it to me though, 'cause the town is fun.
Some things that I don't like other people love, like this visitor event. I still have the first two visitors of the event, Greg and Nanny, waving and thumping in my driveway.

You might try it a little longer. town items are dropping left and right now. Cant say i've got a map today, but tons of tools. I don't see doing town too much longer myself either. I have to get all the buildings for completion sake. But now that I don't get many bem or mine items, what is the purpose. I probably will not bother to unlock the land.
Upgrading town now will now be a overall consumer of BEM.
I don't like it either. some visitors want premium items I simply wouldn't sell at the price or quantity they ask for. So, I regularly send them away.
also, I do not like the gifts. If they only gave TEM's, I may consider selling to them, but, as things stands, I will ignore the town, once it's empty. My NH isn't too active, and none have the town unlocked. And, no, I won't join another NH, I do not like pressure or people asking me to play the town or do something, that's why I have my own NH.
as for visitors, I do not like the "local", he seems to always want jam or candy. Which is a big no, so, I whenever he shows up, I return him to the train.
The town isn't working for me either. There isn't the same level of interaction or decision making that there is on the farm. The train arrives and I either service someone or I don't and that's it. There isn't the same level of control that you get on the farm. I periodically check to see if someone is finished and then go back to the farm. For me it's just a truck delivery service with bells. I have more interest in completing the mastery on all my machines and completing the outstanding achievements and helping with boat orders. I don't find the interface quite as slick as on the farm. I will continue to persevere with it in the hope that future updates will add more interest.
I didn't like the town at first, but it's really grown on me. Dunno if it will have long-term interest, but it's nice to have a new challenge.
It's true it's severely cut back on the boat crates I fill. But I was getting pretty bored with boats, to be honest. I had got everything unlocked, and I have more coins and vouchers than I know what to do with. I was ready for something new.
You might get there yourself one day. The town's not going anywhere. Maybe one day you'll come back to it.
That's what is cool about this game. You don't have to do the parts you don't like. I will agree that it has changed my game but I am not sure how long that will continue.
First, I have noticed that there have been some days where I get one or even no letters from the postman, meaning I managed to forget to go visiting or simply ran out of time to go shopping and helping. There are also days where the only ones I get are from my kid or from my other farm when I arranged for her to revive my trees or I have done my own (I have two fully functioning farms on two iPads). But in all fairness, it could have been because I have both kids home and have been cleaning out closets etc.
Second, I have turned so many boats away. I don't need vouchers or boat points,money or even XP so they aren't as attractive, but I will admit to not helping as many either because of the above and because different things have become more valuable.
Third I am doing less trucks, but the ones I am doing are really good ones.
Finally for me the types of gifts that are received aren't an issue with me. Not sure why, but I haven't really noticed them. I have noticed that I am getting more of those rare BEMs and have been able to upgrade both my barn and my kids. So that's good. As for maps, I still hold that they aren't necessary because there is room for all the buildings and a few decorations. Those can come later.
I do think the newness will wear off soon. Actually I hope it does. When I cleaned out my sewing area I found some old craft kits that I had put aside and I'd love to get back to them.
I hope you all get to a point where you need a shift in your game and then hope that the town will be more appealing. Maybe by then, enough of the folks doing it so fully now will have TEM for sale for you.

Loving the town! It's the much needed addition I was hoping for to stay challenged in this game. I can understand lower level players with a smaller barn size being overwhelmed with the demands of the town. It's certainly not easy keeping up with the boat, truck, and town orders at the same time. The good thing about the town is it's not going anywhere...work on it whenever u like. Let it sit there and collect dust if u want to. It's ur choice.
The one thing I noticed about the town is everyone seems to be hesitant with helping with boats nowadays. My boats used to be filled within minutes any given time of the day. But now, it sits there for a longer period of time. It does get filled eventually, but it seems like people are saving their stock for their visitors and are less inclined to help with boats :(. Oh well.
The issue with the lack of help on the boats isn't greed or a lack of willingness to help. Most people kept an inventory of items laying about to help out. If a boat came with a ! you filled it with your excess stock. Now we have another source of demand for that limited stock.
What I do not understand is that the town almost always pays out more than a truck or boat will ONLY if you remember to calculate in the max price of whatever drops with the final shop, divided by the number of shops. Even more so if you calculate the forum trade price of some of the TEMS. Trust me people it is a lot easier to manage the town in the level 8 and above range. A lot of the frustrations seem to come from farm level 60+s that are used to having their farm maxd out and are sitting on a bunch of coins. As soon as they start the town they want maps now now now and have every slot maxd. It is an unreasonable expectation to put on the game.
I love the town. Wait, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the town. Was bored with boats and truck orders as I don't need the XP nor do I need many vouchers any more. I stopped doing any truck orders that called for more than 2 items though most of the orders continued to ask for more than that. Truck orders seemed to deplete my stock far too quickly, and so does the town, but at least there's that little thrill of wondering what's in the cute little wrapped box that truck orders didn't deliver. And the boats...well, they required that I sit on piles of inventory just in case the next boat asked for it. At least now I'm moving my inventory and not having to save 12 of all premium items. I was trying to come up with little games within the game so, for me, this town came in the nick of time.
I agree with Haystacker - the town would be formidable to lower level players who are trying to build their farms. And like Tigg, I sometimes find the day has gone by and I've forgotten to go visit my neighbors to see who needs help. Filling others' boat orders has become a bit more challenging, but to be honest, most of them still call for sugar and dairy which I wasn't filling before and am even less inclined to fill now, especially since the town folk ask for those same items (unfortunately).
I just reached level 11 tonight in the town, and though my buildings aren't all fully expanded, some are, and I have enough slots in all of them to keep things cooking right along smoothly. It was a bit rough at first, but new starts usually are. And I'm fully confident that there are more buildings in the town's future which will keep the excitement going for a long time, not to mention all the different ways one can expand each building (not just increasing visitor count). I hope the OP gives the town another chance further down the road, but if not, farming can fill all the needs for a good long time. The town is just another aspect of the game which can either be played or ignored.

Dear town-hater,
I went through a negative phase on the town because some of it was too demanding and frustrating. Then I sought out tips from fellow players and I slowed down and decided not to worry if it took me two days to serve someone, and I stopped worrying about making room for new customers and so on, and breathed. The tips and Zen exercises really helped and I liked the town again enough to enjoy the challenge.
Now the new maintenance yesterday has lessened some of the town demands on premium products, I think I am back in love with it.
Stick with it for a small while longer, even if it is one customer per day until you want to up the pace. You can go as softly as you enjoy. You can ignore it whenever you want to. And please ask for tips on the parts that are depressing, maybe someone here will have a magic answer. Worked for me.

I like it quite a lot for now. Upgrade all buildings to 5 or 6 spots, have space for 21 visitors and get 7 or 8 visitors per train. It's busy when the train arrives and then i leave it alone for a couple of hours.
BTW, i get all sorts of upgrade items, including maps; expanded 4 times and have 12 of 14 for the next one.

Don't give up on it! I was really annoyed at the start because I rarely got paint and maps but I stuck to it and kept serving visitors. What I realised over the levels ( i just reached 9) was that the materials(gifts) you receive seem to balance out in the long run! Someone in my NH keeps a record of what he gets from visitors, and believe it or not, the numbers for each type of material is almost even.
I am sorry to hear some don't like the town however like some people said the beauty of this game is that you can completely ignore this aspect of the game. I quite like the strongman as. i find it hilarious that the weights inflate as he lifts them until they pop. 😂
For me personally I love the town. I was at a stage where leveling up was all that is left and nothing to work on or stuff to unlock etc. I do find myself doing less boats and truck but I am fine with that myself as I am working on expanding the town and unlocking the new buildings currently on Reputation level 11. I love to have something to work on again. Currently I am not picky (yet) with the visitor demands. If I have it I am serving it just for the Rep Points and gifts.
As always when something this new is introduced in the game it will take time for the game to settle again. We have seen this many times in the past. Many players around my level are now doing the same as I am, racing to work on the town. So they may help less, sell less etc.
The TEM are a newly introduced material so it takes time for people to build up a surplus of them where they would be comfortable to sell or don't need it as much anymore. So yes it will have its effect on the DD and people helping or not at the moment but I am sure things will settle with time. Currently finding TEMs in the DD is next to impossible. Why you may ask ? Then also ask yourself this are you selling yours ? There can only be a nice supply if people are selling and currently people are saving and spending them. With time we will start to see more people sell these items as more players will have their land expanded (map pieces) or reach max levels etc.
For those who can't remember this one. I remember when the first batch of Land expansions were introduced in the game (yes believe it or not we didn't always have them and used to have a farm that just had the land you get when you start the game) LEM were impossible to find for quite some time as everyone was saving them. As time progressed they slowly became more available. There was quite a long time when LEM were completely useless to a lot of players then fishing came along and same thing happened. LEM availability dropped significantly.
Even when events are running it is harder to find "good stuff" in the DD whether it is the boat event, visitor event etc. It will get better again. With time lots of farm will return to a more normal balance and start to help out more, sell more premium stuff as they will start to get more picky with what they do or do not serve visitors.
Upgrade to 20% more naps and 10% more running around outside and see what happens -- I upgraded mine to 20% more outside running around and got 30% more naps for freeQuote:

That kid was back in school on Thursday, and HAPPY TO BE THERE (but in the intervening 3 days learned a lot at home). :) :) :)
