The Island: A TH9 Farming Base

The objective

I wanted a farming base I could use from Gold up to Crystal. It had to defend against farming armies like Barchers or BAM, but also against the widely used Hog army in Crystal. The CC had to be difficult to lure and the storages hard to reach and they had to be spread out.

Features

• Centralized Clan Castle makes it difficult to lure the CC troops by a single hog
• Centralized Teslas for maximum DE protection
• Centralized Mortars to crush barcher armies
• Two centralized Air Defenses for protection against air attacks
• An air bomb near all storages makes it hard for minions to get to them
• Two times double giant bombs combined with bombs to take out even level 5 hogs
• The outer ring is completely covered by the x-bows when set to ground mode
• Almost perfectly symmetrical

The Disadvantage and the Name

The base only has 4 compartments: The Core, The Middle Ring and the two outer rings. These design choices make for an unusual anti-hog base and also explain the name. The Core is basically an island surrounded by defensive buildings and buildings with high hit points. At the same time the core, or the island, contains many strong defenses that hopefully keep the enemies away from the core and the middle ring.

This is also its biggest disadvantage, once an army gets in the second ring, they can move around freely. The defenses in the core, however, combined with the buildings with high hitpoints, should kill the armies fast enough.

Update history

The original version

Version 2 - I made it harder to locate the giant bombs and put bombs next to them to take out level 5 hogs.

Version 3 - In this version the core has been rearrenged for better DE protection.

A possible help to your "Move about freely" ring is maybe move your spring traps in that area.

I'm afraid that would make the base a lot more vulnerable against hogs, and it's just when hogs attack that troops can move about freely in that ring. That's because when hogs have destroyed all of the defenses, there would be nothing left to take out the remaining army.

When attacked by a BAM or barchers army, however, the outer and inner ring will still be (partly) intact. All storages are covered by the wizard towers and obviously by the mortars and x-bows. Therefore, the army probably wouldn't get any farther than one or two storages.

Looks like a good anti-hog base, but the double bombs are easy to locate since there is an extension in the walls. The attacker could put down a couple of piggies and blow them up.

You are right, when designing the base I also wanted to make an extension on the left and the right side, but I ran out of walls.

I've tweaked the base a bit now. I put some bombs next to the giant bombs and I also put an extension on the right and left side to confuse the attackers.

Why have the teslas inside unless you have a trophy base?

The ringus base is a good anti hog base, but it's double bombs are also easy to locate. Doesn't after much unless you only have 2 space for them to guess, then u should be worried.

I don't think telsa scan defend cuz they look a bit too far from gold and elxir storages, But overall nice base OP.

If the hogs somehow manage to get into the core, they'll get killed by those teslas. The core is the last line of defense, and if it gets destroyed it's easy to total the whole base. Therefore, I think it's important to have them there.

Ideally, they'd completely cover all the storages, but to be honest I hadn't thought about that when I started designing the base. Besides, they'll still be a great help against troops that get in the middle ring.

Very interesting base will definitely try it! Great symmetry also. One idea is to place your air seeking mines near the ADs that are not centralized. The purpose is that likely from there a fly unit attack will start (to take out the AD) so you are guaranteed to hit a healer or a dragon. :)

Thanks, Anakim. :) I had actually thought about that already, but I couldn't find a good spot to place them nearer to the ADs. Would you place them outside the walls? (Between the cannon/builder's hut and the army camp maybe?)

Very nice base, but I think that if lvl 5 hogs were traveling counter-clockwise around the base, the little bombs tucked with the giant bombs would be less effective against them. ;)

Thanks! That actually happened with one of my other bases earlier. There was a healing spell on them but nearly all of them died, even with just one little bomb next to the double giant bombs, so this setup should be even more effective against them. As soon as someone attacks me that way I'll share the replay.

As Anakim suggested, I've moved the air seeking mines closer to the air defenses.

Unfortunately I still haven't been attacked, but that might also be a good sign. I'm currently moving up to Crystal so I'm expecting hog attacks any time now.

This replay shows there's still room for improvement. I'm thinking about rearranging the center a bit so the DE storage is covered by two mortars instead of one.

If you remove the 2 builders from the inner layer you could rearrange walls so you have some fake double bomb locations

Looks pretty good, however I am not a fan of farming bases that have all 8 storages in one single compartment.

Yes but if the troops get into your core esp hogs with a heal spell the telsas won't matter and by that time your going to lose most of your storages anyways.
IMO I think the teslas would do their job better in the first inner layer protecting that cc radius from being lured..possibly right besides the cannon.
Just trying to give constructive criticism from my experiences as these bases are the only kind Ive use too....And I've tried / tested them all.

I rearranged the core a bit so the DE storage is covered by two mortars instead of one. This should provide better protection for DE against barch attacks.

I generally also don't like that, but I don't think it has to be a problem. All storages are covered by wizard towers and mortars, so one would have to take out both the defenses on the outside and those on the inside to get all loot. Otherwise, they won't even have the chance to move to the next set of storages.

Thanks for the feedback! I think that would definitely help in one possible scenario, but in another I might get totalled.

At the moment, I haven't been attacked by hogs yet. I have, however, been attacked by barchers, and those teslas prevent them from going to the next set of storages.

As soon as I start getting attacked by hogs, I'll keep your feedback in mind! I might even put those teslas outside of my walls so it's even harder to lure the clan castle. :)

This first one was a revenge. He used maxed giants and a lot of wizards. I think the main reason this defense failed is because I didn't have any troops in my CC. Therefore, the obvious improvement that can be made to prevent attacks such as these, is to always have troops in your CC.

The second defense was much more successful, the attacker used level 3 archers and level 1 archers so he didn't stand a chance!

I got totalled for the first time. Maxed troops, 5 spells, high level heroes. Not much to do against such armies except for having higher level defenses.
