Builders and Build times

As everyone knows the build times become almost unbearable when you reach a certain level and cost large amounts of gems to finish, plenty of people go ahead and buy all 5 builders to make it a little easier despite long build times but to get all five builders costs 3500 gems (not including the first free builder or the second builder that you get in tue tutorial for 250 gems) that works out to at least $30 USD not including tax and what happens when you use all your resources on 1 or 2 long upgrades? The other builders just sit there useless, why not in the next update make the builders more useful? If you have builders not doing anything add the ability to assign them to other things currently building or upgrading to reduce the build time this will make it easier for higher levels to finish upgrading things and add some of the fun back that is lost a bit when your builds start to take a week or longer. While on the topic of build times clearly there is some type of algorithm in place to determine the gem cost to "finish now" what if I don't have enough gems for that? We should be able to speed up the build by applying gems to it this shouldn't be all or nothing if I have a an upgrade that costs 500 to finish now I should be able to use my 250 gems to cut the upgrade time in half
