Fair point. Maybe that's why i suck at selecting raiding troop combinations... :-/

Archers, 'nuff said.
Moe, the Nuff saying Meerkat
If we are talking all minion or all archer, then I would say all minion. They have higher DPS and similar HP to that of 2 archers. They do get hit by air defenses, but getting ignored by both mortars and cannons offsets that since they are still low housing space units (not to mention how poorly air defenses are placed anyway). Air traps are of course a threat, but when deployed correctly, it shouldn't ruin your entire.
Beyond the hypotheticals, though, archers are clearly superior.
Here are some stats for all one or the other, both are level 5 for an even comparison:
220 archers:
Total Troop HP: 8,800
Average Troop HP: 40
Average Movement Speed: 24
Average Attack Speed: 1
Total DPS: 4400
Total DPA: 4400
Average DPS (by unit): 20
Average DPA (by unit): 20
Average DPS (by troop space): 20
Average DPA (by troop space): 20
110 minions:
Total Troop HP: 8,800
Average Troop HP: 80
Average Movement Speed: 32
Average Attack Speed: 1
Total DPS: 5500
Total DPA: 5500
Average DPS (by unit): 50
Average DPA (by unit): 50
Average DPS (by troop space): 25
Average DPA (by troop space): 25
Archers happen the same but with Mortars, that will fire continuously. What do you prefer: Having 1 minion die every second or a bunch of archers dying every 5 seconds?
Cannons and AT's also OHKO archers so it won't be much. Being flying is much better than being non-flying. And the Minions still have better stats. If the Minions are maxed, they are better than archers in everything (except cost). They have better training time per housing space. 22.5 secs per housing space and the archers are 25 secs per housing space.
Bear in mind that you're comparing a level five rather than a level six archer to the level five minion. The archer pulls ahead by health per unit pop at level six, but still lags on the basis of damage per unit pop.
Caveats that I'm still upgrading both DE barracks and haven't raided with minions. But even if you considered the max level archer versus the level five minion, I favor the level five minion simply by virtue of being able to fly over walls. Admittedly, there is a very hard counter in game in the form of the air bomb which one shots even the max level minion, but I'm told that it isn't too hard to fish those out with single spawns before launching your main attack.
Related, does anyone know the minion attack range versus the archer range?
Hey does the air mine and air bombs do splash damage?
These air traps have never been activated against minions so I don't know. They've only been used against dragons and I didn't notice any splash damage.
I know it wasn't max to max, but comparing them at the same level seemed to be the most fair. FWIW here are the level 6 archer stats:
Total Troop HP: 9,680
Average Troop HP: 44
Average Movement Speed: 24
Average Attack Speed: 1
Total DPS: 4840 Total DPA: 4840
Average DPS (by unit): 22
Average DPA (by unit): 22
Average DPS (by troop space): 22
Average DPA (by troop space): 22
