Does anyone here know if Supercell plans on boosting the drills? Going to level 6 drills for 120 an hour doesn't seem like a worthy upgrade.

Well any collector is not you'r primary source of income. but 2400 a day x 2 on 2 drills is 4800 a day. at th9. thats pretty damn good if you ask me. shouldnt take more then a few days of that + raiding to save up for any DE upgrade. even an expensive DE upgrade should be able to get enough in under a week.
