Is this too expensive for army comp? What improvements can I make?

So, this is what I run and am comfortable with..

Army Composition:

TH7 just started
Silver 1, 1150+ trophies

BarbiansLv3 X42(2,520 Elixir)
ArchersLv3 X72(8,640 Elixir)
GiantsLv3 X6(9,000 Elixir)
WallBr.Lv2 X4(6,000 Elixir)
HealerLv1 X2(10,000 Elixir)

Rage Lv1 X1(23,000 Elixir)
----------------------------------
Total Troops Cost: 36,160 Elixir
With Rage: 59,160 Elixir

I don't use rage every battle, but I use it as often as I can

My farming method:

Look for base with minimum of 80k Elixir + good gold

Drop Giants as close to Air defense I can get(Air defenses on outer walls usually)
Drop wallbreakers after first mortar hits ground
Drop 20 barbs behind giants
drop 2 healers, by then air defense is gone
drop rage in front of troop path
drop more barbs
drop archers in line behind them, usually they gather together when running through walls.

Honestly I used more giants - I got to 195 troop space real quick and regularly raided with:

25 barbs
6 wallbreakers
14 giants
60 archers
2 healers
1 heal spell (try to save spells unless necessary)

and asked for giants from the clan

ALSO I have been pickier with who I raid - I looked for 100k each even starting at TH6 and now around silver 1 gold 3 I look for 175k each.

You'll absolutely mow down any TH6 no matter what with this setup (even better if you get to 4 star troops) and will get what you want from most TH7's which, considering you don't have DE troops - should do the trick.

As for heal spell vs rage - It's your choice, I'm just a fan of a higher level heal spell with a tank/heal combo like giant/healer

Would you recommend that setup with level 5 giants/archers/barbs on TH8?

You don't need all those troops.
This is what I use:
50 barbs
25 gobs
4-8 wbs
rest archers
spells:
1 rage
2 heal

You can use this comp to hit collectors and easy storages but if you use spells you can easily hit th7 and some th8 storages. I just got 300k/250k from the storages of a well developed th7. FYI, I'm farming around 1200 trophies.

I can't really say - I'm not there quite yet, I'm a late to mid range TH7 farming around 1350 trophies.

I'd guess you'd stomp TH7's with level 5 troops, but I just don't see it being 3 star effective against decent TH8's. I think by TH8 it's time to put away giant/healer and graduate either to Loonion, BAM, or a cheaper, more effective barch.

If clan war 3 starring is your aim, then TH8 may be time for mass drags or hogs.

But, like I said, I'm not there yet so it's just speculation. I simply noticed that his strategy is REAL close to mine, even in the way in which he attacks, so I figured I'd show him what I use regularly.

36 Goblins
I carry a couple Lightnings and a rage, though I don't always use them

Its pretty effective, I was just looking to mix it up to where I didn't need to spend quite so much elixir and cause more damage with the harder to reach storage's.

What is BAM? I keep seeing that but no idea what it means haha.

I like to use a Barbarian, Archer, and Wallbreaker tactic. What you should do is look for a base that is inactive (mines and pumps filled) and has a minimum of 300k resources. Then you dont really have to worry about the elixer your spending because your making 3 times more the elixer.
