Are Point Defences underated?

Hi guys,
So you know as most humans with multiple brain cells do, I thought. And what I thought about is the fact that on almost every thread saying 'help me' or 'need tips' at least 1reply, usually 2 say "Max splash first" and then they go on to say about how awesome splash defences are but almost everyone says nothing, about upgrading snd positioning your point defence. I am using the impossible TH8 anti-hog base and was attacked by a TH10 who 97% me with a good stratergy. He managed to get rid of most of the point defences with his tank level 6 giants and his OP level 4 hogs and then broke into the core with just a few wizards and archee queen. Because all point defences were gone, I was pretty stuffed as a level 8 archer queen doesnt get very damaged by level 6 mortars, especially when shes invisible... And level 6 ADs arent much good when he attacked with just ground troops. I have also seen many a base with max splash/AD with point defences only at level 8 upgrading their TH. So I was wondering are point defencea too underated? Should we as forumers encourage people to get their point defences past level 8?

Point defense are just not as important as splash defense...but every defense should always be maxed at some time or another....

There's an awkward point in Clash of Clans where point defenses become much more important than splash damage, which is why you'll see splash damage positioning neglected by higher level players. Level 8 Mortars don't do ♥♥♥♥ against max Golems during a GoWiWi attack, so you better pray you don't have level 8 point defenses.

However, if you're not in Master+ (or about there) I don't think neglecting your point defense is such a big deal that you should be as concerned about it as Splash damage. I personally do not neglect my point defenses because that's just wasted potential if you keep them at level 8. However, right now I upgrade my splash first since they're most expensive anyways, and most important in farming ranges.

We as forumers should be providing this information to all players, but I think it's freely available to anyone who does some research on high level gameplay or has a basic understanding of the damage system Clash utilizes.

This sums it up pretty well. I think most players ask in a general sense what they should do, and the general answer is upgrade splash to protect yourself from farmers. Any base will go down if you throw everything at it, but you want to protect yourself from being farmed to death by barch. That is why I used to go splash first. Once you have level 6 mortars though....the game changes. They went from being my highest priority at every TH level to my lowest priority at TH9.

Cannons are pretty good against Heroes.

all defenses are good/useful.

yet most know that splash does best to almost everything. ofcourse discos are beast though.

it also depends on what TH level you are and in what league you play.

I find mortars to be useless against hogs, Mass dragons and Balloonions, but these are about the only armies that attack my base.
Mortars are usefull against BARCH armies though, but I get attacked with BARCH very rarely.

Personally, I focus on upgrading xbows, teslas and air defense.
Once they are all done, I will get my Wizard Towers up.

Mortars are last on my list, tbh.

When I was a TH7 or TH8, mortars were extremely important, because I was playing in low leagues and many people farmed with BARCH there.

The splash dps towers are mostly recommended because they're good against low HPs troops which in most case have themselves the highest dps per housing spaces. Thus splash dps towers can quickly reduce an attacking army's overal damage.

In regard with the OP condition, it seems the problem is not the lack of power in any type of towers. Instead in the example of the OP being a TH 8 got attacked by TH 10 powerhouse with maxed giants and overpowering hogs (of which no TH 8 with any defense/ base design can defend anyway).

Should be noted as well that raiders tend to attack base which gives the least resistance to their current army. Thus if a base has maxed splash dps towers, it would be logical to be attacked more often by high HPs army like mass dragons or hogs and less often by barchers. The same goes with base with maxed air defenses will be less likely to get attacked by balloons. In this regard, maxed splash dps towers are valuable tools to ward off the most common of attacking army, barchers, so the base will be attacked less often in general.

When I'm still a TH4-TH8 I feel that splash damages are really important, as lots of attackers will use giant/barb/arch/gob/wb/healer combo. Splash does well defeating those barb, arch and gobs.

But, now, seeing myself as a TH9, I got my X-Bows, it feels like the splash aren't really that important anymore as most attackers uses either hog riders or air troops. They are still useful though, against barch type armies that tries to break your base.

You can see some top defense designs has it's mortar positioned almost outside, this is in order to make the process of luring cc harder, I think.

Well fromvwhen you start till th 8 mortars/wizard towers are top priority since your not getting attacck by high hp troops such as golems/lv 40 heroes from th 9 up you should focus on xbows teslas maybe and infernos (just a tip keep infernos on disco)

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I just have one question. When I go to TH9 should I get my new defences up to max TH8 lvl and max xbows and the do splash?

Higher lvl splash is better when farming as most farming armies have low hp due to cheap cost but at crystal 2-1 it changes dramactically and point does become very important but most ppl that do ask or most likely not going past mid-late crystal for a while

I honestly think that the Xbows damage should be more than today.. Maybe add +10 damage

I always heard and agreed with splash defense should be your priority.

However once you start upgrading your splash your defences suffer. So I always made sure i upgraded point defences 1st to compensate for splash towers being down.

So yes point defences are under rated, expecially teslas ..., but I am happy that people over look those

That would be a nice addition to helo balance out defence and offence. I think offence has the upperhand atm so giving defence some more dps would be cool.

I agree with you entirely.

Yeah, you really notice how good point defenses are when you start upgrading those teslas! They're soooo good and compliment wizards/mortars very well :)

Everything should be maxed including point defenses, they r as good as splash damage since u have a lot more of them.

They are a little underrated IMO.
