Moderation .... Please!

Dear Supercell,

Before you read through, please feel free to move this thread to its appropriate sub-forum.

I registered on the forum just a month ago despite being a clash of clans player for atleast 4-5 months now. I visited the forum once a month before that and have been frequenting it the past 4-5 days.

Kindly bear an open mind and hear out the concerns of a game lover.

1. State your demographic and act appropriate to it.
Are you catering to 10+ in age, 15+ or all ages? Kindly make sure you state the age groups in some announcement so parents know whether this game is suitable for their under age kids or not.

2. If the game is for 10+, kindly do more moderation on rather sexist jokes and open flirting on this forum. But, if it is for 18+, kindly require a user registration to view content. Some jokes, double entendre, innuendo and super-smart-♥♥♥-sarcasm are highly inappropriate for kids, if they are your target audience.

3. This is more of a personal observation hitting close to home. The forum is littered with atleast 90 pc of posts from 30 odd players. The content-quality of those posts leaves a bad taste in a new visitors experience as it feels like I just crashed a wedding and I know no one there. Is there anything you can do to make these forums provide more quality content and less fanboy-fangirl flirting?

4. When new posts with some genuine questions pop up, they are invariably hi jacked by a select few and soon run into pages and pages of worthless comments, sarcasm, humor at the expense of someone else and highly discouraging quality silliness. Can you please increase your moderation levels?

i introduced my 13 year old nephew to this game a month ago and I highly regret my decision after reading the forums. I had hoped he will learn strategy, planning, math and return-of investment concepts in a fun game. However, he ended up learning a few words from the global chat and picked up a few bruises from his clan.

Consider this an open letter to you and kindly state your target demographics for this game.

This is a very considered post so i hope it does not get hijacked..

As a Parent myself would be hugely concerned in recommending this game to my (or any) child (albeit she is only 5 so it not really a problem right now)

The fact my child is female would be the biggest concern of all.. Global chat is like a Grooming pool at times and although i feel its down to the individuals to act responsibly we all know what kids are like.. I am not suggesting for 1 minute they are all the same but there are significant numbers of players that do act irresponsibly and in an inappropriate manner

And more concerning is the fact that some of these comments are obviously not made by children!

I think on the whole the forum is well orgsanised and i dont think it in way is representative of what happens in game, but that is just my opinion.

the only issue i see is how this would be managed... I suspect that alot of the more "weider" stuff goes on in clan chat....

However, our clan is predominantly 18+ (or so we believe it to be) and we would not welcome moderation in clan chat... plus this is simply not possible to manage.

For me the only mechanism is for Supercell to review the Report Feature, add the ability in Clan Chat (to report anybody who is joining just to abuse) and also literally review the Chat and act accordingly.. ie Ban these people from the game.

I must admit whilst my children have accounts on these forums I discourage them from posting, kids feelings get hurt easily and whilst I am old enough and ugly enough to take any "enthusiastic" criticism I know that they would be hurt more easily...it's an age thing really.

But.

All forums will suffer from people saying things perhaps without meaning or understanding that people can be hurt, it's the wa of the world i am afraid and moderation isn't the solution to all forum problems. There are so many nice people on here with good advice to give that's why i keep coming back - i learn something new every day mostly.

Global chat is definately the worst offender. That place is utterly ridiculous and kids don't belong there, even though they seem to be the ones doing most of the cursing. I don't know what the solution to that should be, but as it is now, I would never encourage a kid to go on there.

Clan chats can be good or bad. In all honesty, I think clans should be left alone in this respect. Moderating clan chats, or censoring/etc., really wouldn't be a good idea, IMO. People should be, and currently are, free to make their own rules for their own clans. You can find clean chats for members of all ages, clans who require maturity, or 18+ clans that don't really care what you say. It really wouldn't be fair to limit what people can do within their own clans when many of them go out of their way to prevent kids from joining/staying.

As for forums, there will always be trolls. Admittedly, the forums are not a very welcoming place, but it would be difficult to really change all this. As of now, there are 3 main Clash of Clans moderators, although the others do help out here sometimes, and it would be a little unrealistic to burden them with micromanaging the behavior of forum members. Yes, the quality of information in many of threads is lacking to say the least, but to be fair the vast majority of it has been covered before. Really, the Clash of Clans wiki is the best place to go for almost pure factual information. The forums are dominated by opinions, and that is pretty much inevitable. I don't think this is really a place for younger childeren, to be honest though.

More moderation is not needed. What is needed is for adults to police their children instead of letting some game be the babysitter as they watch "Say Yes to The Dress" or American Idol. Young children don't have any business on this forum or in this game. As for the 13-17 year old crowd, unless they are going to some super strict religious school they probably heard worse at school. I remember when I was that age and things haven't changed that much in 20 years(at least not for the better).

With any online forum there are people who are more active then the others. Same as the game. Don't judge someone because they have more free time to spend on an online forum then you do. It's their time a wasting.

As for global the problem isn't that the report button is broken it is that too many people aren't policing their children. They would rather have the rest of us put up with their spoiled brat kids.

If you think the forums of bad try reading general chat...things there are much much worse than anything on the forums.

I have not made an attempt to push part of parenting responsibilities on to Supercell.

I was very clear on what I wanted to know from them.

1. State your target demographics and act appropriately. Make an announcement on which age groups this game is suitable for and stick to catering to those. When I look at suitable for 18+ on the itunes store download page, I know it is not for my nephew.

2. If their main target audience is indeed 18+, no further moderation may be necessary except making the announcement, converting the forum from open to 'registered users only', and leaving things as they are.
If 13+ is their target audience however, more moderation is required. It reflects in the comments of each member who replied here that the content on this forum is not appropriate for kids of that age.

I am looking forward to a reply from Supercell. My next letter is going to be to Apple asking them how they rate games. When the entire gaming industry rates games and gives parents the information on which age groups the game is suited for, Supercell can sure talk about it and walk it.

The mods do what they can. Posting inappropriate things is against the rules and it states the specific age when you sign up, now if your kid sneaks up to a computer and starts viewing the forum or plays the game when you don't want him/her to then that's your own fault. The internet is uncensored, either don't let your kids go on it or stop complaining.

Dear op,

Seems like you are very close minded. We are in a new era where the younger generations will have access to more information online than those of the last generation. The benefit outweighs the side effects. At 10+ they will be expose to these things through their friends and peers anyways. Leaving them out of the picture will hurt them in a long run. I hope you adapt to the new world and do what's the best for your love ones.

Where is this notion that because they are exposed to it, that it makes it ok, coming from?

That is an awful way to view this, in my opinion. If kids hear words or see things they shouldn't, it doesn't mean they should keep hearing/seeing them.

Well said, I feel the same way about the forum...there is a lot of helpful information here. It is sad that you have the ones that write before they think about others and their feelings...or the one who could care less.

I hope you realize that you are making a personal attack here. What I asked of Supercell is a legitimate question that does not involve any leftist or rightist arguments, nor does it bring into picture parenting styles. Entertainment, Video, Games etc are rated for a reason. It is that one bit of information that parents can take into consideration before making decisions for their children.

Let parents, teachers and elders in the household make such decisions for their children. I welcome your opinion and I do not believe in pushing my opinion on to others and wish you didn't do the same.

To be honest, I don't know where this assumption came from that this game is targeted at over 18s.
CoC seems pretty accessible to all people over 7 or something. It is sad that kids should not be able to go on the Internet
on a reasonably kid friendly game without parents to have to worry about they are being exposed to. Often It is a necessity though, as I saw in my clan a couple of weeks ago. We have a couple of teenage girls in our clan and once one of the members worked this out, he went completely strange, saying odd and then disgusting things until we were forced to kick him, despite his massive donation count.

I also am starting to agree with the current opinion by some people that the forums should be accessible to everyone.
No one wants to listen to constant in-jokes by forum regulars and extensions of clan chat. Humour is fine, but we don't need a constant comedy drama.

I spend a lot of time on global I believe the following words should be banned:

how old are you?
are you a girl?
are you hot?

Theses are regular questions I've seen in global and
the number of times I've had to explain that "this isn't a dating game"! is astounding

Many of the times, the person asking these questions are teens! and it's quite disgusting to watch global and teens discussing very adult acts.

The game content itself is very tame and likely appropriate for nearly all ages.

Global chat may be a cesspool, but hey, "online interactions are not rated by the esrb". What people say over the Internet is usually terrible, but the video game devs don't have any control over it.

The forums are not part of the game, but the ToS seems to make it clear it was designed for people over 13 years of age.

I've find that any competitive game that allows free and open communication between players quickly becomes unsuitable for impressionable minds. COD/Halo conversations during death matches are enough to even make me blush. I think this may be why Nintendo is so reluctant to provide universal support for voice communication for their online gaming. Helps keep it kid friendly.

So basically for this to be a sure fire kid friendly experience global/clan chat would have to go.

You're naive if you think your 13 year old is hearing words for the first time on a game forum. About a week into middle school they will have heard every word in the English language. You're also probably being equally naive if you think the worst thing they have seen on the Internet is this forum.

I think no further moderation is required. They keep things on topic and have an annoying language filter.

Instead of relying on probably the most addictive game on the market right now to try and teach your kid return on investment concepts, maybe try not sticking a video game in their face and actually talking to them about it? Do you really want them to be trained from such an early age to think that video games will teach them important life skills? What if they equate that to a game like Grand Theft Auto? Would you give them a lesson on odds and ROI by sitting them at a poker table?

My post was not to make me feel better, but rather to try and bring you to the realization that trying to change the moderation policy of a web forum so that you can have a clean conscience about letting your child play a highly addictive game in the name of "learning" is not going to accomplish anything.

I also hope you're having a good day now that you're a little more aware of reality :)

For the record... Shielding a 13 year old from something is only giving them incentive to try and find out why you're shielding them from it. Parenting comes in to play when you make them aware of bad situations and influences and teach them why they should CHOOSE to handle things the right way. You come off a bit overprotective... I don't mean that as an insult. If you're really concerned about your child being impressionable it might help to start with honesty instead of trying to pretend bad things are not out there. I'm from the south, and you'd be surprised how many preacher's sons and daughters turn out to be the craziest, wildest college kids out there, simply because they've lived the most sheltered life possible and feel like they are making up for "missing out". Take my opinion for what it's worth, but 13 is more mature than you appear to be giving it credit for is all I'm trying to say. Every web forum on the Internet will have comments very similar to the ones you see here, and I seriously doubt you're going to be able to go to every one that your child might visit and micromanage their moderators.

Chill out OP, every kid in middle school know all "the words". This forum is well moderated and is rather tame compared to say COD forums.

While I appreciate people defending my view (that's rare for these forums... I feel like I just saw a unicorn lol), I also know that I don't sugar coat anything and OP may have taken offense to my presentation. I wouldn't rip them a new one just yet... I do feel like, beyond the bluntness, that there is helpful information in my posts if OP actually thinks about it, so maybe some progress can still be made. I am not discussing parenting styles here. Your post that I refused to answer went into a personal attack and hence my reply.

I have a simple question for Supercell. What is their target demographic. If 13+ is not their target demographic, this forum content should be accessible only AFTER logging in. Simple suggestions, simple solutions to such problems.

I didn't suggest introducing mods into the game. Thank you for that bit of information. I asked what your target demographic is and if you believe the content on this forum is geared to that demographic, if the content here is appropriate for that demographic.

Why are you so bent on getting this "target demographic"?

Also you already have your answer to what they believe is appropriate right in FRONT of you. If a thread/post is modded then they don't deem it appropriate. If it is allowed, then they don't have a problem with it.

The target demographic is obviously anybody and everybody that helps put money into the bottom line whether that be through spreading the word about the #1 iOS game or actually buying gems.

Possibilities without having Supercell spend a lot, and yet cater to the under 18 demographic:

1. Higher levels of forum moderation
OR
Make the content on this forum accessible ONLY after registration and logging in.

2. Distribute a second version of the app (or check the age of user at install-time and make a decision of which version to install). This second version will be toned down to not have a clan castle, global chat and clan chat. So kids can still play in multi-player mode and not have access to the clan chat and global chat.


Your decisions will largely depend on the demographic you want to target and hence my question.

In the current scenario, I will not let my nephew play CoC till he is 16 or 18.

If I was in your shoes I wouldn't let them out of my sight until they're 30, I think investing in chains in basement is a good solution to your problem, who knows when they'll find a chance to read inappropriate material when they sneak out of the door.

Dear Baconman,

You seem extremely concerned about my nephew. Do you know him? Do you care for his grades, his behavior and his safety? I guess not. I do. Besides, let the elders and parents make choices for their children. Don't get too personal and don't attack others at a personal level.

I think an important aspect of what OP was getting at is how threads always seem to end up like this. It starts as a serious debate, and at some point, theu devolve into flaming or back and forth over nothing.

The forums are fine as a whole, in my opinion, but this thread is a pretty good microcosm of how debates go. I think it is more of an issue with the nature of the forum, as opposed to a problem with the moderators, though. A few points get throw in on both sides, then it devolves into silly arguements. It isn't something that there should be mass bannings or censorship over, but it is certainly true that the quality and quantity of factual statements, or at least substantiated opinions, tends to decline quite quickly in most threads.


Personal view: I think they target 13+, maybe even a little lower. I also don't really think the forums are terribly inappropriate for that age group, on average. Always exceptions to that, but forums aren't really that bad.

Here is where a MOD on this forum needs to intervene. The conversation is going way off topic and diluting the essence of what is being discussed.

OR

Make this forum 18+ and ensure the content is accessible only when someone logs in after registering with an 18+ account agreement.

I think an important aspect of what OP was getting at is how threads always seem to end up like this. It starts as a serious debate, and at some point, theu devolve into flaming or back and forth over nothing.

The forums are fine as a whole, in my opinion, but this thread is a pretty good microcosm of how debates go. I think it is more of an issue with the nature of the forum, as opposed to a problem with the moderators, though. A few points get throw in on both sides, then it devolves into silly arguements. It isn't something that there should be mass bannings or censorship over, but it is certainly true that the quality and quantitymof factual statements, or at least substantiated opinions, tends to decline quite quickly in most threads.


Personal view: I think they target 13+, maybe even a little lower.

That only happens in pointless threads (namely this one). Look at all the meaningful threads with several pages of actual responses. The age demographic? Probably anyone old enough to own an iPod and buy gems.

After reading 5 pages of this thread.. I can't hold on any longer.

the forum isn't the place for you to ask these questions.

We all know there are below 18 members here, even those 1k+ Addicted member, some are below 18.

Even if you ask seriously for an answer from supercell, to those below 18, you are just a whining dad/uncle spoiling everybody's day.

Dear Op,

The target audience for coc is all age groups. The art is cute enough for kids but serious enough for serious gamer, took them a very long time to find the right balance. I had a chance to actually sit down with the CEO himself at one point to discuss about the game before it was released, so I know why this game became successful, we talked about how we don't use a complicated tutorial and let people discover things on their own. And not changing the game aspect that we know worked. most of the updates are dedicated to higher end game play, because we know early game works.

And just earlier I gave the main developer a call, he's my close friend. I actually talked to him about your problem and concern. He told me starting from tomorrow, his team will work on making a 2nd version of CoC for age group 13 and below, the art will be more "cute" and there will be lessons on math and science added into the single player mode. He said you don't need to worry, the company will do whatever it can to make sure you needs are meet. If you have anymore questions I can ask him for you.

On-topic: These forums are moderated better than just about any I've ever been on. Sure the topics might get recycled, and the threads might turn into flame wars but that's what happens when the game mechanics are so simple and the game is so popular.

When I kicked you out of our clans, it was because you were being too disruptive in our clans, for trying to thrust your viewpoints on others and censor others' ability to express their viewpoints. I gave you some leniency for losing your job last week, but this is too much.

There are many content people here, and your views can come across as overly heavy handed, as you tried forcing us to trophy chase. Transparency of policy is one thing, but offending too many, is another thing. I do adhere to an 18+ policy in our clans, as you well know, but I respect the under 18 people to have a fun gaming experience. And, Supercell has been clear on their policies, per the ToS. To keep pushing for more... is frankly, why I had to kick you. It's disruptive.

My clan is happy being farmers, and it is not for one individual to try to subvert others to their views, or censor others. I only wished you the best, but this sort of thread is the type of behavior that was concerning me. When someone takes a vacation, it is not about you. Many people find joys, as you say, in small things, but the galaxy does not revolve around you or your views. Others have the right to live their life, and it is not about you. Demanding SC to respond to your thread comes across as rather inconsistent with the tone you are trying to achieve.

Take that hiking trip, and find some balance. I hope your new clan makes you happy. Read and re-read my post before you do your thing.

OP... Your whole post is flawed. Not only is your "parenting style" broken down to babying a 13 year old, but your only suggestion to the forum "problem" is to make it require a registered account to read? NEWS FLASH... 13 year olds are smart enough to create accounts if they want to read something...

Call it personal attacks and dismiss what I'm saying if you want, but you have a forum full of people telling you that you're overbearing and overprotective. Look in the mirror.

It is time for you to realize that you cannot follow your 13 year old around and shield them from private conversations at school. You cannot watch them on the Internet all the time. If you're as concerned about your nephew as you claim to be, you might want to try teaching him some responsibility before the kids at school are the ones who are the ones telling him about things that you've been hiding from him. That makes you the bad guy, and that's what causes kids to do the opposite of what you tell them. Make a change before you lose credibility by being so closed minded.

The game is rated 9+ on the Apple store. Supercell's target demographic, it would be reasonable to assume, is 9+, though, obviously, any way they can make money is a plus to them. The problem the OP has is that online interactions can be "inappropriate" (I know that term has different meanings to everyone, but that shouldn't matter in this discussion). But, that is the case with everything you can do with other people. Kids play a mild online game, like Uncharted (rated only 13+, though any age can walk into a store and buy it), but can hear any inappropriate things in online play. I can send my kid on a nice, school-approved, 100% safe camping trip, but the other kids there or people he meets can still tell him inappropriate things. The very nature of adding other people into the mix means that the game developers no longer have control over what gets done. So, you can either try to moderate/censor it, scrap it or live with it.

Right now, Supercell has gone with the censor/report option. Personally, I would let people say whatever they want (but hey, I'm a Libertarian), since character filters are generally useless, the report button is easily abused, adding mods would add costs to a part of the game that isn't very high on my "fix-list", and getting rid of chat entirely gets rid of many things I like, while providing me no real benefits.

As for these forums, they are not actually part of the game. The current system of moderation is fine, and it is a much tamer place than many other on the Internet. That said, I do feel certain people (e.g. Illustrius, MasterHPotter) get more leeway due to their high post count (since I'm feeling charitable, I'll say that translates to a high level of meaningful contribution to the forums).

Dear OP, if you are truly afraid of your child stumbling upon this thing we commonly refer to as "The Real World" which he/she is going to discover in a matter of years then you might actually want to limit your child's gaming to single player games.

'Newmember', I shall try and repond with a curteous and respectful reply without any personal attacks since you have created a thread for which I would like to air my view on.

If these forums were restricted to members-only then what would stop kids from signing up first to see the content? I don't see how you could stop that from happening.

Any kid can simply see innappropriate material from typing all manners of stuff into google, have you contacted google to ask them to restrict how people search on their search engine? Have you contacted your local politician to see how the internet can be more restricted as a whole? Have you contacted representatives of china's government to see how they manage to control what their online users see as a basis for research?

I'm not asking in a spiteful manner, I'm just trying to guage how you compare supercell's responsibillity of internet content restriction compared to other aspects of online activity as a whole.

To analogise this subject, it's akin to buying your kid a gun then contacting the gun company to come and remove the trigger from the gun because you don't want your kid accidently shooting something/someone.

Lol this post isn't really going to make OP want her nephew to play this game, but at least if will support my statements about the maturity of 12 year olds. This guy found his way here and posted on the topic, with an account, and he's 12. Having him create an account is no solution to anything, as he clearly has the common sense to figure out how to do that. OP needs to begin deciding what it is that he\she is really adamantly against her nephew being involved in and have a mature talk with him about it... Internet forums are only the tip of the iceberg. Go read one newspaper-take a look at today's children-and honestly say this new world is better? In the country I live in-a mother was walking her 13 Month old in a stroller a few days ago and was robbed by a 15 year old and a possible 10 year old. When she assured the young men she had no money-they shot her in the leg and the 13 month old in the head-killing him. This is better? I'm not saying things like this didnt happen in the old world, but they certainly weren't the norm! I'm also not saying the degeneration of society is caused by CoC's global chat, but I have to agree with some points the OP makes. Why can't children be children longer? Oh-I guess it's because of the new era and new world, sorry but I'm not embracing it either.

Your original concern cites the demographics that supercell is catering for. You cited that it's inappropriate for your 13 year-old nephew who is exposed to the frequent forum flirting and hijacking. I say the following coming from a family of educationist. We are doing the greatest disservice to our children by over protecting them through a lack of exposure. Coming from a 3rd world nation, the biggest problem with our educational system is the lack of exposure via secondary experiences (i.e. reading). It really doesn't matter what we read, so long as we can relate and filter through what is rubbish and and what are gems. The only way of learning to filter unfortunately is via experience and a lot more reading.

I disagree that a 13 year olds are too immature to handle the forums. I know of many 13-15yo who are a lot more mature that many adults. Their understanding of literature like Great Expectations, East of Eden and Animal Farm would put a lot of adults to shame. Take a book like animal farm. At 9 years old, they can probably just get the plot of a farm being taken over by the animals the pigs are in control.. yada yada yada.. At 13-15, deeper concepts like "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely" becomes clearer. At 17-18, the exposure to different governmental systems of democracy, communism and dictatorial-ship (f4g) becomes clearer. The exposure i'm referring to is that there is no black and white, but many shades of grey.

From stalking the forums recently, I'm certain that supercell and their moderators are doing a brilliant job! Postings that cross the line are very quickly removed (e.g madaras and his soft porn postings).

On a slightly more serious note, I suspect that (with your current situation, job and all - which is not a personal attack, merely an observation) you might be suffering from depression. This in turn makes it seem like the whole world is against you. The world is only against you if you are against the world.

OP, there a things you are failing to realize: Just because you do not utilize invectives in your responses to people, doesn't eliminate the possibility that they will be viewed as offensive in nature, and be responded to in escalating agitation from your intended targets. Reread your responses to Illustris, Syaoraen, bsmittyau, and others. When you say things like, "I'm not going to stoop down to your level."; "You have opinions on me and I have opinions on you. I didn't air them as I don't stoop; you decided to air them, but then that is you.", you are tacitly stating that you are superior and hold the moral, or behavioral, high ground. You should then expect the receiver of your comments to become offended, and reply with irritation. Why you don't, and find this confusing is odd to me.

Also, starting a thread about children influenced moderation is asking for discussions, which will undoubtedly turn into flame wars with the above mentioned approach, about parental choices. Game and movie ratings do not disallow a parent from involving a child in their viewing/playing, no matter the level of that rating. They are simply a quicker way for parents to decide whether their child gets to experience them.

Your original concern cites the demographics that supercell is catering for. You cited that it's inappropriate for your 13 year-old nephew who is exposed to the frequent forum flirting and hijacking. Their understanding of literature like Great Expectations, East of Eden and Animal Farm would put a lot of adults to shame. Take a book like animal farm. At 9 years old, they can probably just get the plot of a farm being taken over by the animals the pigs are in control.. yada yada yada.. At 13-15, deeper concepts like "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely" becomes clearer. At 17-18, the exposure to different governmental systems of democracy, communism and dictatorial-ship (f4g) becomes clearer. The exposure i'm referring to is that there is no black and white, but many shades of grey.

From stalking the forums recently, I'm certain that supercell and their moderators are doing a brilliant job! Postings that cross the line are very quickly removed (e.g madaras and his soft porn postings).

On a slightly more serious note, I suspect that (with your current situation, job and all - which is not a personal attack, merely an observation) you might be suffering from depression. This in turn makes it seem like the whole world is against you. The world is only against you if you are against the world.

I do hope you find peace and let go of whatever anger is possessing your soul.

Centuries ago when slavery was commonly accepted, when the Salem witch trials occurred, or maybe during the inquisition?

One would truly have to go back to the time of Adam and Eve in the garden to truly have this picturesque world, if you even believe it existed.

Is the world really worse than it was, or is our knowledge of horrible and appalling events that normally would have only been a local news story, and not national/world news story, been changed?

I have probably been on or even looked at the global chat a handful of times. I enjoy the game itself. Not the 9 yr olds that play it. This is the way games are going to... Social media-games. We have to learn to ignore those that don't deserve our attention and give to those that do. This game is nothing compared to what kids hear/see on a school bus or at school any given day. Sad but true.

OP, I think we are all beyond caring if you respond again or not. Your responses are nothing but dismissive anyway, so it really doesn't matter is 20 or 2000 people are telling you that you're being irrational, you're still going to say whatever you can to justify to yourself that you're right and everyone else is wrong.

Aside from your personal issues that have you clearly unable to accept everyone else's opinion (that you're wrong), I will state once more that FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR NEPHEW, his age is a very crucial time in development and I really hope you will choose a course of action going forward that will cause him to trust and respect you rather than resent and undermine you. This is someone who, in the next two years, will learn how to drive, begin planning for college or a career, and possibly look for a job. If you've been as adamant as you seem to be about sheltering him from everything, two years may not be enough time for you to prepare him for the responsibility that lies ahead. You're basically demonstrating to him, by continuing to pretend that the "real world" does not exist, that you are completely out of touch and that he should learn about life elsewhere.

I adopted my sister in law when she was a junior in high school due to one abusive parent and one enabling parent... She had had enough and was moving out regardless at 16, so we offered her a place to stay. She is now at college not far from here on a scholarship, and soon to be in medical school.

OP, I understand your concerns that you addressed. However, in global chat you are free to talk to people all over the world, it is like an internet chat room. If you want children to play this game then they need to be informed of how to properly participate in these types of things (Ie: not giving out their name or address). Now on the part where you want to have supercell limit what can be said, that would totally ruin the point of the social aspect. There is no way to limit what the conversations could entail. Notice all games with an online social aspect state that online experiences may change or vary (or however they word it). There is no effective way to censor the public on the internet without removing all of the social aspects and completely destroying the game.

If you spoil your kids with ipads and iphones, guess what? they're going to find ways into much worse areas of the net than CoC ...

Thank you for your insight.

I understand that social aspect of this game is very good for adults and may be even mature teens. I am not asking Supercell to remove it from the game entirely. I am suggesting that they install a toned down version of the game for underage kids. I love the game as it is for adults.

I am not out to do the impossible. I am against Internet censorship just as much as you are. This forum and the in-game chat, however, are not the entire Internet. I am not advocating Internet censorship.

I may from the discussions so far, I may have been mis-understood. Parental Controls is a different topic from Internet Censorship. Parents (most) make decisions on which product or entertainment channel is appropriate to their kids based on the ratings. These ratings exist for a reason. It is the responsibility of producers to rate their products so that the consumers make an informed decision. THAT is where I am coming from.

Regarding the forum, I made a request for moderation. I understand the limits to which they can do the same and I don't hold it against them. If I felt it was pointless to post here, I would not have done it in the first place.

I welcome active participation in this debate. Parenting styles and what decisions parents make for their children should be left to parents. We are not discussing that. We are discussing appropriateness of certain aspects of this game and its rating.
