Items like flame throwers, poison damage, freeze weapons, things of this nature without fail I have always seen identified as damage per second, or something like - xx damage on hit, then xx damage per second, etc.
Things that are "too fast" to have discernible shots - the x-bow for instance might be a candidate to be in per-second damage since it goes so fast. It does 50 dmg per second, best I can tell from replays, it's about 5 shots per second at 10 dmg each? I like seeing 50 per second versus 10 per shot.
I'm not even positive how the mortar does the damage, even with a number per second/per shot. Does it do x amount on the spot it lands, then a different xx amount 1 space out, and xx 2 spaces out? Or 3 squares of splash damage gets xx - or everything within it's splash zone gets the same 11 dmg per second (or 55 if it's really every 5 seconds).
