I have 40,000 DE, but can't decide whether to upgrade my hogs to level 3 or buy myself the Archer Queen. Any suggestions, explanations included? Thanks

Hogs are great but the queen will help you on offense and defense almost every battle if you use her properly.
queen all the way. highly upgraded hogs are best when used in masses and your gonna want your queen to help clean up all the junk left behind by the hogs. plus the queen helps a lot on defense.

This is almost the same question as when you upgrade your TH and you have extra buildings to purchase - do you purchase the extra buildings? Or do you upgrade existing ones? Get the NEW ones everytime.

I will always go for Heroes first. Heroes help in offense and defense, and u don't need rss to train nor do research to lvl up. Best place to spend DE.
Lv2 hogs are good enough and can 100% most of the time in CW if use wisely.

AQ hands down.. she should be the very first thing you get in TH9! even at level 1 she is a HUGE upgrade too your offensive prowess. (and a bit on the defensive side too) She can clean up at the end of raid, and if you have Giants tanking she can tear up turrets from a far. Get her to lvl 5 ASAP, to get her Cloak going!!!
Hogs are helpful but they consume a lot of Dark since you typically need them in mass (16-up-to-40 is not uncommon) backed with other powerful troops like Wizards.. and probably will need ALL of your spells to support them.
But trust me, she can help you get more out of a raid then the hogs (lvl3) will. and as mentioned, may save you some loot/trophies on Def too.
Man, I wanna go early to TH9, just for the Archer Queen... I miss her already.

I am a th8 so AQ not available to me and have never had 40,000 elixir to be in this predicament but i would think the queen as well. Once you buy here you will always have her, you wont have to spend more dark elixir to make her again as you do with the hogs. She will help u gain the elixir back to upgrade your hogs later.
Heroes can easily make or break a raid. You can always upgrade Hogs later on, but the Queen will help you out right away.

AQ all the way - I mean she is like a mobile tower! She is a very powerful defense against most armies especially if she is not lured out and surrounded.
