What is the point of this base design?

Thanks to the users of this forum, I have learned that the base design pictured below is a (poor) example of an anti-everything type of base. Thank you to everyone that has replied.

I've always thought that they were a good base for running down the clock during attacks as most troops would walk around the outside of each wall?

These base designs are called white flag bases.
All the outside buildings will give the attacker 50% so he will leave the storages.

an other option is: if the attacker will attack giant/healer, the giants must walk a far way to finally get to a defensive building so it will take a lot of time.

Bases with that shape are generally supposed to be anti-hog. This means that there is a core of defense, a second layer of non- defenses, and a third layer of defenses. Therefore, the hogs will run around the outside of the base instead of jumping into the core.

Unfortunately for this user, he has placed defenses in the second layer. Hogs will now jump right into his core instead of circling around the outside and hitting traps.

I can see that, I guess. Wouldn't it make more sense to move the point defenses out of the compartments and into the core then? Give the attacker an easier 50% but strengthen the core in case they get greedy.

It's a great design but the example you posted is horribly setup.

The walls are good.
There should be a middle ring of non-defences (ie: storages / heroes / barracks etc) to keep hogs running outside.
I also liked to push the spawn zone further back so wall breakers have a long way to travel. x-bows normally kill them.
The design also makes troops walk the long way around wasting time.

It's mainly Anti-Hog but does well against other armies too. Just don't copy that one.

This is a combination of anti-... Bases, just not a very well put together one.

it is anti-hog, all troops should be guided around while getting shot at, but since he has defence in the middle ring, this won't work.
it is anti-giant-healer/golem/pekka, all the troops will walk around the walls, which will mae it hard to 3 star because it takes too long
