Just because I saw it somewhere else and I thought it was a good idea..
Details though..
When you are in chat, maybe just global, w/e, there is a pause button on the bottom right hand corner of the chat thingy. Clicking this pauses the chat so that all new messages are simply not shown- it freezes the chat. Clicking it again unfreezes the chat and brings it back to normal.
Just a thought.
