Tier one troops are the best farming troops in CoC. And just go as high as you can. Raid, try to get 50%. Don't snipe. Don't pass on good loot. When your out of your league, steal the gold and run. When your above your league, get some two stars. Your range will come naturally...
Put your elixir storages outside of your base (if your not making double dragon armies on war day). They will get you some extra trophies...

Gold II to I for me. Great DE up there, and loot is always good too. Just make sure you know how to fight TH 9s and 8s (not maxed of course), and you can get lots of loot ;)
