It is smarter to lose the 2 million gold than to upgrade to th10 if their base is VERY premature.

If you have to ask then you probably need to Cancel. :( its hard to gauge with out seeing your base. if you cant hang in Crystal leagues then its going to be Real Rough, for a long time.
If on the other hand, your defenses are up to snuff, meaning your Splash turrets, Teslas, A/Defs are maxed at TH9, and your offensive troops are maxed, (Tier 1 farming army lvl6, or lvl6 B'loons and lvl 5 Minions) then you may be ok as you can out raid your losses with strong attacking capabilities. (lots of raiding can cure premie setups) then spend your loots before you log off and be less attractive to potential looters. as well as farming out your TH to minimize losses to 1-2 stars instead of 3 star...
if on the other hand your turrets are still TH7-8 (or less) then Cancel now, bite the bullet and use the time to get your defenses up.. other TH10 will steam roll you, (Hogs and B'linion) and TH9s will still farm you dry.

I agree, you should stay at th9.
Theoretically, if the troops are advanced enough, you can survive as a preemie. Having high level hogs and heal spells or simply just high level tier 1 troops will do, but I'm going to assume this isn't the case (this being at work thing sucks especially since I don't have my iPad here to check things out...).
