Defense period is overrated for anything other than war. build a terrible base and you increase the odds of being invaded by weak and or really bad players. Like moths to a light bulb.

I did my walls an defences at the same time up until TH8 an maxed both of these. At TH9 i found this much harder to do an as a result went too TH10 still with mainly just skull walls but with all my defences maxed.

At TH10 i continued to focus on defences an only occasionally bothering to upgrade a segment of wall. I am now at a stage where all my defences are maxed for TH10 and i only have walls an heroes left to do an i'm finding this quite a nice position to be in.

When i was maxing my defences i would often have to go on defence with 6-7 mil gold in my storages which meant i was worth at least 400k gold to anyone who tried to attack me, now all i have to spend my gold on is walls an atm this means anytime i get over 1 mil gold i dump it straight into my walls an in the process make my base a far less appealing target!
