Can't promote leader

I was leader of my clan and gave leader to close friend but he doesn't have an option to promote.me back to leader. Why is that ? I couldn't find anything relating to no leader promotion back to you ? I don't see why not. Any help please ? Thanks

As in u can't become leader again ?? Haha I mean he got me back to Co leader just can't get me back to leader. I'm just curious.
