Upgrading Mines and Pumps to lvl 8

Recently I've notices alot of people only upgrading the mine and pumps to levl 8 or 9 and not actually maxing them out. Is there some kind of strategy to this?

I come from a Starcraft 2 (PC game) background and a key element of that game was to, as fast as possible reach a high economic state, before making armies. That's the kind of approach I took to this game. One of the first things i did was max out my Mines and Pumps to Level 11. Seeing TH 9's with level 7 and 8 pumps really confused me.
First I assumed they were gemers and didn't care about there mines and pumps because they would gem,but then i noticed it way to often. So back to my original question. Is there some kind of strategy to not upgrading the mines and pumps to level 11?

I'm guessing that the reason for this is they raid more than they collect, so they don't need they're mines or pumps as much.

Seriously, you gain far more from raiding than you do from your mines and pumps.

Edit: I'm maxing them on my alt account because I am kicking myself for not maxing them on my main.

Everyone needs to sleep once and a while and a level 11 mine produces nearly double a level 7 mine.

So when you asleep for lets say 10 hours you will get 30,000 x 6 = 180,000 gold when you wake up but a level 7 mines you would get 16,000 x 6 = 96,000 gold when you wake up. Imagine that happening for 1 month.
180k x 30 days = 5,400,000 gold vs 96k x 30 days = 2,880,000 gold. thats a difference of 2,520,000 a month. It just doesn't make sense to me

It makes the amount of resources appear smaller. Hence it deters certain types of people from attacking them.

And those resources sitting in mines and pumps make you a BARCH magnet as well.

I do agree with you that they should be maxed however I also understand why some people don't do it.

If you have all level 11 mines and go on a vacation for 3 days, your base would be attacked constantly...
But say only level 8. Then the mines wont hold much loot, and people wont attack you.

Besides, 2.5 mil gold difference every month is not that much... I can easily get that in a day

I try to upgrade mines and pumps as soon as I can. They really help for when u have a shield and when u go away for a little bit but if your gone for ages then no point just gonna be free loot to some lucky people

You can get that in a day with a lot of work and effort. i just have to be active and i get it for free. plus if i farm just as hard as you i can get 2.5 of my own then still be ahead of you.
In my eyes who cares if you get attacked that's a free shield for 12 hours or free trophies.

great points...

well, it's 10 days to upgrade from lv.7 to lv.11 for each buildings...
you have 12 buildings to do, so totalled it's 120 days (4 months) if you reserve 1 builders to work on the mines/pumps
And If you work non stop with 4 builders, you still need 1 month

in same time, you can max mortars / wizard towers from lv.1 to max

for farmers, 2.5million a month is minimal because they can get 10-20 millions a day
they prefer to get better defense for better protection of their looted 10-20 millions / day

If you play this game a sensible amount then it is worth upgrading your pumps - there is really no reason not to.

If, however, you never leave your house, keeping your defensive buildings upgrading while doing walls is probably more useful builder time.

Since I'm a Clash addict I use 1 free bbuilder for the pumps and pumps so when I wake up one morning I can get lots of gold and elixir.

It's a tradeoff. I have a limited number of builders so I have to look at how I use their time (and mine as well). If I use them to upgrade collectors to max level then I collect 90k more loot each night, presumably of both gold and elixir. That would take me maybe two raids tops to collect, on a weekday I might do 10-12 raids a day if not more, on a weekend a lot more than that. In doing so I have sacrificed upgrading my defences which keeps other raiders out of my storages, and/or my offense which allows me to attack better bases with bigger loot. So weighing it all up, having a better offense and/or defense is far more important to me than how much I get from collectors.

Because I'm a reasonably active raider I tend to try and upgrade my offense first (so laboratory, army camps, spell factory) then my defence (structures first and dump gold into walls when I have spare) and then collectors as and when I have a spare builder or don't want to upgrade two defensive structures at once.

Hopefully that explains my thinking on the matter?

I too come from a similar background, hence my name!

Anyhow as a month old th9 I still have lvl7/8 collectors which I am finally beginning to upgrade so that I can stagger my builders and keep them busy all the time as upgrades now cost a lot! Yes, max collectors bring in a lot of loot over time and maybe one day I will also max them... but my priorities were defense and everything else...once defense was maxed/almost maxed, I hit the next th upgrade. Never regretted my way, but understand those who max. I am quite active, so I have never had a loot problem, which also "justifies" my route.

I have better things to use my builders on. I'd much rather upgrade a mortar or wiz tower than a collector that will only give me 500 extra resources/hour.
