If you don't use but do use archers then the answer is archers. But on an objective basis, the upgrade from Giants 5 to Giants 6 is enormous and far outdistances the Archer 5 to 6 upgrade.
do lvl 6 archers get taken out by lvl 6 mortars in one hit?

Cant belive some people dont realise this so ill say it, a mortar will one shot an archer of the same lvl. It's just like how a wb will one shot a wall of the same lvl.
Upgrade what you use more. If you use Giants, definately do them, L6 ones are sooo op. If you never use giants, there's no point in upgrading them this early :)
Absolutely giants. I did archers last. Giants, Barbs, Healers, Archers in that order.
Giants. Hands down.
