Unfair advantage for some dishonest people

We have recently been to war with a clan with the majority of them using a game mod which allows them to run as many practice attacks on the opponent until they are able to finally win a battle.

You know when the enemy are using the mod as you see the battle on the war map. But once the battle has ended it does not show on the war log. Thus allowing them to keep practising until they have mastered your base finding all your traps etc

This is all very unfair on the opposition.

Maybe supercell should take the approach that other apps have taken in preventing the game from running on a jailbroken device?

Should these players be banned for taking advantage unfairly?

Post pictures/videos please.
And, if it were true, they would get banned.
And the server could be slow, so it might not show up.

It's not a game mod, it's called ghost attack, a very old exploit and it doesn't involve any third party app. Annoying as hell.

All you do is turn wifi off before you raid. Also works on revenges and boom beach

The one they are using is a third party app from cydia. I know what they are using, but for obvious reasons don't want to post on here.

with the ghost attack, our clan would not be as to watch them attack us (as wifi would be off). We watched the same person attack 3 different people back to back and not a single attack registered on the war log.

I practised this on single-player gob missions, worked half the time and half the time it didn't. I am probably just really ♥♥♥♥ at it, but the thing is you will lose a shield with it if on multi-player.

No, you don't know what you're talking about, there's a thread a few day ago, people has been reporting ghost attack since the beginning.
The fact that you see them attacking your base is because as soon as they hit the attack button, the attack show up in clan map. After they turn off the wifi, it still shows in the clan map. Because there's no signal to the server, the attack will not be recorded.

I don't know about the 3rd party app though, but pretty sure the thing you see is because of ghost attack.

hes right it is an app off of cydia its called ♥♥♥♥game, when a player has this mod for coc that player can stay logged onto CoC for hours and this mod enables them to have sandbox mode which allows any player to simulate an attack on anyone they visit

Yeah that is the app. The other features of the that app are as you describe. Assuming super cell know of the app seen as it was censored.

They should ask for confirmation when you press the attack button (as they do when you attack a base someone else already attacked), register the attack immediately and disable/delete the end battle button; there's already a scouting button and it's enough.

How do you know they aren't just scouting by starting an attack? I've done this a few times because sometimes it's easier to scout when you can see the red boundary line around the base.

Good point, but when you see someone is "scouting" your base for 2 minutes+, you know there's something fishy goin on.

The Screenshots mean nothing. You have 30 seconds to back out of an attack. It is also possible that they are taking the 29 seconds backing out and going right back in. Yes there is ♥♥♥♥♥ing going on but a screenshot is far from conclusive evidence.

It IS possible FluffyBunnyPlayer has simply backed out of five separate attacks before the 30 second timer.

It is also possible the OJ really was innocent.


Personally, if I were leadership in the clan FluffyBunny, FluffyBunnyPlayer would be banned his ears would fall off.

Screen shots are telling the story here. FluffyBunnyPlayer is gaming the application. If he has to do that to win, I don't want him on my side of a war.

I wanted to post an official thread/response from Supercell on the issue that many of you have brought up. That issue is the use of airplane mode to exploit the game and gain a tactical advantage over opposing clans during Clan Wars.

It is very important for us that Clash is fair for all our players, and that no-one has an unfair advantage in the game. We are already working on a solution for this, but unfortunately the problem is hard to solve without causing problems for the majority of players, who choose to play fairly.

We have taken steps in the past in order to ensure players with poor connections can continue their attack even if they have issues with their connection. This reduces the amount of players getting kicked out of the game while attacking, but unfortunately some have chosen to abuse this feature in order to gain an unfair and unethical advantage.

It is difficult to detect if the connection was cut on purpose by the player, or if it was lost due to a slow or weak internet connection. Still, we are working hard to get this issue fixed, and we are trying out several different alternatives. We realise that the current situation must be very frustrating for clans that value fair gameplay and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you guys for bringing this to our attention, and for your patience on this matter.

One aspect of this issue that you did not address, is if players using this "tactic" or exploit can and or will be banned or punished.

Simply put, is this a bannable offense, or should players simple assume that they wont be punished for doing this?

Edit: Even if not in clan wars, this exploit could be useful in practicing attacking bases in normal raid mode, learning new strats etc.

Under the Terms of Service agreement this would likely fall under "going against the spirit of the game", which Supercells "reserves the right to suspend or terminate" for. So they likely won't be banned because so many are doing this, but Supercell always has the option.

Once the attack starts it can not be undone" button. This will stop the cheãting, and the confirmation button would prevent miss clicks.

That isn't the problem at all. The problem is players dropping connection or game mid attack for legit / unintended reasons. The current system notices that connection has been lost, cancels the attack on their server, and then in your client continues the game till the attack is over. This means connection can be lost for say 30 seconds, but if the connection is re-established mid raid, it counts. At least thats as i understand it.

Basically, in clan wars, once connection is lost, game needs close out the raid completely. If a phone call comes in, or if the player switches from the client to another program, or if the connection is severed for any reason, the client side program needs to end the raid immediately.

I can tell you straight it's not a slow connection issue. I do get a message 'server not in sync' or 'connection timed out' when in matchmaking on certain bases even without deploying any troops.

Sometimes I can play the whole day without these errors.

Nobody thinks the clans using this exploit should be baned at least for a while?

They've been ghosting each village at least 10 times...

The ghost attacking is an issue that hopefully can be resolved but I don't understand why everyone is going crazy about it since it seems anyone can do it.

The real injustice is the continued use of the fluffy bunny software that is not available to everyone and gives a considerable advantage to those who use it. It is much more powerful and disrupts the main part of the game! Just because you can't see if someone is using it is no excuse not to address the issue! It is a far worse cheet than ghosting and deserves a response from supercell. This has been a serious issue for a long time but since the majority have not had it affect them there is not the outcry there has been for ghosting.

The only way to solve the ghost attacks is having the game paused where you lost connection and a message pops up stating 'you are disconnected please connect again to continue' and starts where you left of when you re-establish connection.

Sorry but the fact that we can do the same is irrelevant...we all dont have time to ghost 10 times each opponents villages...some have a life aside CoC.

But moreover, who would like to spend cash on a game where you can use this exploit so easily? Nobody I guess.

It needs a quick fixing and clans using this exploit should be punished.

Good luck on getting a fair solution.

I am one who lives in an area with a below par internet connection, often I have to fight through laggy battles to progress.

As much as this exploit is frustrating, I really do hope you can find a solution which doesn't kick players like me off the server because I live in an area with poor internet service - and only one provider who can deliver internet where I am. I love the game way too much!

Kudos for grabbing the matter by the balls, I know originally some posts were editted/deleted on the matter. It may teach more about it in the meantime - but we know for sure you are aware of it, against it; and working to resolve it.

My idea is that even if you do not deploy a troop, the attack can only be stopped by tapping the "End Attack" button. E.i. if you tap the "End Attack" button before deploying a troop, then the attack is not registered. If you don't deploy a troop and don't tap the "End Attack" button though, then the attack is registered as an unsuccessful one. In clan wars attacks it's much less likely that you'll lose connection before deploying a troop (and if you lose connection after deploying troops, you have to suck it up regardless), because your attack is supposed to be already well planned and the initial 30 seconds prior to the attack are not in any way needed.

You missed his point, where ghosting is frustrating, there is a big issue with it only because it's obvious. Eye mod isn't, so you could be getting sandboxed by a clan and not even know, not to mention the search and stay online features it offers. I hope sc focuses on the bigger undetectable issue as they have know about it for over a year, and only cuppers have complained, and have been greeted with, ♥♥♥♥ up you gemmers stop whining. Finally an exploit affects farmers and we are fast in action to resolve the issue, I hope both are fixed

Ending an attack without deploying troops is already a feature and working in both Clan Wars and Normal attacks.

No i got his point! And yes ghosting is visible...but of course i'm against all kind of ♥♥♥♥♥ing visible or not :D

And btw, here's a clear proof of the exploit: you see the same guys raiding many of our bases, and still have 2 attacks available aftewards...i still think those guys should be banished

Listen nooboosh, I've spent a good amount of money on this game chasing trophies without any assistance from the cheeting software that is common in the high champ game. Practicing attacks is only one of the advantages it gives the user. Do you understand the advantage in chasing trophies of staying online without tapping the screen the whole time?

I have 2 kids & a job. Did I go mess w my iPad & download software to make it easier? No, but I know I am competing against those that have that advantage. I still made top 200 & I didn't come post here crying about how unfair it is.

That situation is much more unfair than the ghosting, has been around a great deal longer, and nothing has been implemented to deal with it outside of the 6 hour kick. So I don't think ghosting is such a cheet since it is available to all without modifications.

I would love to see both removed from the game.

I believe his point is, if you manually press 'end battle' nothing will be recorded. However if you let it time out and do not press 'end battle', it counts as a loss.

So those who do view via attack mode and end, like you do when viewing a revenge nothing counts.

While those who fudge their connection to cut out it will be impossible to hit 'end battle'.

Daz caught my point. Yes, ending the attack is an existing feature, but registering an attack where a troop has not been deployed isn't an existing feature. In the second part I wanted to explain how my suggestion won't hurt that much (if any) the players who lose connection unintentionally.

I have never understood this. If I lose internet, my game sends me a message, and I have to restart. Do they somehow turn off the message, or do you not need internet while attacking someone in clan wars?

You recieve the message like a minute or two after losing connection- enough time to check for traps.

Yep, it's like that so if your connection is weak for a period it can recover and keep you in the battle.

It's one thing I love about the game.

I remember a while back when I used to try play Call of Duty on PS3. I always had several drop outs every single day thanks to my useless connection. Was frustrating as hell.

I'm thankful Clash has a system which helps keep those with a weaker connection in the game.

But that leads to exploits which needs to be closed. Something like Mimos idea sounds like a good way to tackle it. :)

Fortunately I haven't been attacked by this method yet. I just leave my town hall outside and only get one starred. All the would be h a c k e r s attack someone else who would be harder.

I remember posting over 12 months ago something along the lines of "once SC are aware of this I'm sure it will be addressed quickly"...........Boy was I wrong.

It was easier to ignore before, the % of players doing it were much fewer and window of opportunity to do it via revenge was small.

But cannot ignore it now, it's become common place.

After reading many posts on this I was hopeful the response by supercell would equal the outrage by many in the community. Sadly it seems this was brought to staffs attention previously and not addressed. Other than the courteous response of they are looking into it there seems to be no plan to curb the abuse while looking for a solution. With no plan to curb this unethical abuse I wonder how long it will be before enough players do it that it is then viewed as part of the game.

eye mod and ghosting have been around for over a year, i share your skepticism

To me it doesnt seem like a cheet. (im speaking for myself here) If all players can do it, it seems 100% right that people have discovered this "exploit" and use it!!

I propose "Practice mode".
Everybody can practice and discuss their results within a clan.

When you have practiced for an hour or more, doing the actual raiding will make your heart pump and hands sweaty.. guaranteed... and you can experience the feeling of 3 stars practice and 1 star result. ;)
Even better if the practice replay can be shared in the clan.

Thanks for making this sticky and giving those of us who enjoy playing fairly some hope for a formal fix or resolution to the airplone mode vulnerability.

Sooner would be better than later but I would rather wait a few weeks for a comprehensive fix than getting a bugged patch tomorrow.

I don't understand the need to use exploits I never used a GameShark and thank god this is a iPhone only exploit us Droid users are now the most ethical CWers lol.

The problem is not the wifi trick, the truth problem is...
About 90% farmers players down't know how to attack because they are farmers and they have no pratice how to attack for trophys or stars...

This has also been used a lot in Boom Beach, a problem is if you get disconnected during an attack in BB, you will always get the popup after the victory/defeat screen appears, so it works against any island.
I suppose the only way to fix this safely is to make the signal faster so the popup will appear immediately when the internet is cut. This way it won't harm ones who get accidentally disconnected.

Both cw opponents we have had that were ghosting were CHINESE obviously over there everyone found out about exploit quick, sadly winning by ♥♥♥♥♥ing isn't winning imo

And the trick helps them to catch up with trophy chasers, speeding up their skill acquisition that in normal circumstances can take months. Is it that bad?

Not at all, is good for Supercell and the players! The wifi trick does not guarantee a 3 star victory just learning!
I have a max base and i was champ at 3411, i know how to fight.
If someone try to put 3 stars on me, please try 100 times! I have no problem here. 👍

Hi Guys and thanks to supercell for officially acknowledging this problem.
Our clan was razed by asian mafia ghosting clans we have now suspended clan wars until problem is fixed. We are a good clan, over a year and a half old but not a gung-ho clan. We can do ok without clan wars for now but it was fun....pple will always find a way to gain an advantage unfortunately.....

I came across players that can launch more than 2 attacks during a clan war and still can trick system to recognise it as 1 attack. I suspect it could be a foul play, a ♥♥♥♥ or something, which I am totallly unsure of.

I reported this to the Admin earlier today and I hope action can be taken against players who do not observe game rules. Also, I hope corrective measures can be taken to rectify the error in order to curb unhealthy activities such as ♥♥♥♥♥ing.

yup. The sandbox of fluffy bunny is widely used in clan wars, especially in the higher ranking clans. We have had two wars now where almost the whole opposing clan was attacking/practicing several times before it became a (most of the times) 2 star attack. Very, very annoying.

I did not really mind fluffy bunny, but in clan wars it's really a pain in the ***

do both attacks count? as the 1? in war log?
or are you referring to the ghost raiding?
(which SC currently is trying to fix the problem)

We've been seeing this, but I'm not sure it's intentional, although that was our first concern. On the war map, it will show an opposing player attacking a member and then it's quickly over, then they'll be shown as attacking another and they are not charged with an attack. However the "phantom" attack window is so small and at least a couple of the times this happened, the opponent only earned 1 star when they were finally credited with an attack that I think it's just a display glitch. I suspect the opponent is either beginning an attack and canceling before the countdown ends (and before the attack actually begins) or it is incorrectly showing an attack when they are just scouting. However, we reported it to support as we'll, just in case. But as of yet, it hasn't affected the outcome and doesn't appear to be an exploit.

this exploit and many others have been in the game for a long time. Some got fixed others didn't, I guess they are really that hard to fix.

bad connections? this game works off my 3g phone and never drops connection. If you have a bad connection to bad. better luck next time.

No its not! Wlan trick works only with ios7 because ios6 takes verry long to go in airplane modus! :rolleyes:

We are currently in a war that started this morning and I got ghosted 8 times by a player. It's a shame that there's people out there ruining a good new feature I've screenshot the clan we against they won 7 wars so far was wondering where to upload the photos

Now it's being used to win in Clan Wars. Also, this is not an exploit available to Android users. So its not fair to everyone. Fix it please.

you said "during clan wars" that is key. Leave it alone for normal play but clan wars
if you lose connection so be it. You get 2 attacks if you can't get a stable connection for
just 2 attacks in war then tough. Don't attack in a WAR unless you have a good connection.

Attack button locks you in. if you drop connection you lose. end of story

I do not use mods. my phone is not jail broken even but i know what it does. SC SHOULD
implement a few of the features. The attacking of clan mates bases to test them and help
improve them is a great feature.

The searching for bases with loot filters etc is also a great feature. In this case i would
have say 300K gold minimum and the search would only bring them up BUT keep track of
how many it skipped. Then subtract the gold as always. At least this way we save real
life time not having to next and watch clouds.

Adding some of this stuff the mods will not be as attractive to get.

I think the most of us agree that these things have to be addressed to stop it...

It's time for Action and making a clear Statement Supercell !!!!


1. Query your Databases and Server Logs. It should be simple to find 80-90% of the users using ghostraiding in ClanWars... By using queries with some tolerance you'll not get 100% but also users with a not so stable Connection are not getting into your crosshair... Even to find only 60-80% will do the trick

2. Ban them for 48 hours and send an ingame announcement (there where you normally post your update Infos / announcing boosts) that if you catch them again ban would be permanent.

If this is happening rest assured that the word is spread fast among the Clans and will also keeping the remaining 10-40% away from doing again.

3. Repeat the whole process if necessary one or two week later...

4. Now you have the time to find a well thought out solution to integrate into a future update.

5. Also you should do something vs. the third party apps... But this is also only possible by sending out a clear statement. The only way I see keeping the people away from these apps/mods/♥♥♥♥s is by making CoC unplayable on jailbroken devices.

It's a hard decision but one which should be made for the Game's sake.... Announce it 1-2 month in advance that you'll do it, so that the people have the time to transfer their accounts to a regular Operation System and then pull the plug... End of Story...

The community will thank you..... and yeah, there might be a small ♥♥♥♥storm, but only from the ones caught red-handed...

I'm confused as to why the fix is so hard? That's a genuine question not jut me trying to be clever btw.

I know what everyone keeps saying "what about when you genuinely lose connection?".

I genuinely lose connection often, I get to the end of the raid and when I hit return home I can't. Closing and restarting the app I usually see that Instead of a 3star win I got to 24% and then unknown to me the rest of the raid I was offline. It's a ball ache but I get it, this is an online game, and if I'm not online then that's how it goes.

Ghosting can surely be combatted by just kicking people as soon as they lose connection. Losing connection already inconveniences me but it isn't SC's fault. I'd rather lose connection and be instantly kicked than think I've won a raid only to find at the end the 6000de I have stolen (because I'm awesome lol) was but a dream and I only got 60.

happens to me alot as well, as I play every day during a rain ride and there are tunnels.
I raid and suddenly find out I only deployed 5 giants in the raid that was recoreded by the SC server.
Just bad luck. I would never complain about it. I surely would not do clanwar attacks during that train ride, only farming.

regarding the exploit :
Pressing attack should mean that the raid counts, no matter what. If troops deployed or not.
It's an online game and if people have bad internet all the time, well then maybe they should play another game. It's maybe sad for them, but hey that's how I see it. It's more important to stop people from being able to use that airplane mode exploit.

Guys remember, no naming & shaming clans that have supposedly "ghosted," you.

Wouldn't a cool down period work to fix this issue? will affect innocent people with bad connection but will probably solve the exploit. So when someone attacks then connection drops without any troops being dropped, a cool down of say 24h will be implemented so the attacker cannot attack that same target for 24 h or any other reasonably long period

While we want solutions more than anything, knowing that SC is working on this is the next best thing. I do hope the eventual solution to this problem won't be a pain to us with slow connections. I do live in a third world nation with pathetic internet connection after all. Thanks SC.

Wouldn't work. If you enter a battle without dropping a troop, it won't register the attack. The airplane mode is activated before dropping any troops so no attack is registered.

Bravo supercell lets just get rid of ghosting but not the real problem eye mod woohoo nice way to keep them gemmers happy and to think money always buys

Yes thats the one, its been a long long time with it on the lose and there has been quite a few people who admitted using it but i guess cause they spend a couple thousand they are untouchable

But here's the thing

IN NORMAL ATTACK MODE :

1) In case of lost connection during attack, the game should be paused and give the attacker a few seconds to get back online immediately and conitnue his attack. And I think this will be fair for those with slow internet connections.
2) We deploy troops because matchmaking has found us a suitable base to attack. If no troops were deployed, then something went wrong, again a connection lost. At this point it's not intentionally done. Goto step 1.
3) Technically, without deploying troops, an official attack hasn't started, whether letting the time run out or not, and shouldn't be registered on the servers as a loss.

IN CLAN WARS

1) We can exploit the airplane mode to 'test a base' for a possible three stars. To avoid this, this should be treated as mentioned above in NORMAL ATTACK MODE item 1).

An attacker would be forced to deploy troops whether he lost connection intentionally or not.

I apologize to post this solution to airplane mode exploit again, but I don't seem to get any feedback from it.

How about a "Practice" button next to scout or attack? Or just replace scout with practice?
Even better if we can share practice replays with our clan to discuss strategies.

For even more strategic game play and makes your adrenalin pumping, reduce the attack in CW to just 1.
You can practice for hours, and can only attack once.. That would be fun ;)
