Win or lose, Clan Wars benefits don't outweigh the cost
The "idea" of Clan Wars is awesome, however, after the excitement of something new has worn off many have found it lacking in appeal. My clan in particular has begun a downward spiral of losing streaks because players simply don't want to spend the resources needed to fight when the payoff is so low. For example, I spend around 200k in elixer and 1k in dark elixer for every battle. The opponents I can usually 3-star only net me between 165 and 180k in elixer and about 50 to 125 in dark elixer. So even if we win the war I'm not winning enough loot to cover my expenses. I believe this is one of the biggest detractors from Clan Wars, besides the poor matching abilities of the program, which is a whole other post. I'm fine with making less for losing, but I need to at least cover my expenses when we win. Otherwise, I fear this new and exciting addition to the game will fall to the wayside.
Some possibilities for improvement could include making the loot bonus variable depending on how many stars you achieve from an opponent. This would discourage people from attacking bases that are out of their league for easy loot bonuses. There is no reason that a person who gets 1 star should make the same amount of loot as a person who gets 3 stars against the same opponent. Another possibility is to make the loot gained at the end of the attack the same as from regular game raids, or at least make it higher than it is now.
I love the concept of Clan Wars, but it would be better if the payoff for participating was higher. This would encourage people to participate in wars and ease some of the tensions among clan members over the subject. Either way, I'm glad to have a place to air my rants lol.
