What to upgrade first, walls or defenses?

Ok everyone, this is my first post here, and I am a noob, so bear with me. I'm a L51 TH7. Walls are about 25% L7, 50%L6, and the rest are still at L5. Archer towers are L7, most cannon are 7, mortars are 4 (on is in upgrade to 4 now). I have L2 AD, and 2 L1 teslas. My question is this: With so much work to be done, how can I most effectively defend my resources to quickly upgrade my base? I know that when I am farming, if I see nothing but purple walls, I hit <next>, unless i know i can hit 50% of the outside buildings and still get the loot. (I am farming in silver 1 range). Does wall color matter to the more advanced player? If I upgrade walls first, can I expect to psych out would be attackers? Or, should i concentrate on defenses, and try to crush them when they do attack? ( which, by the way, doesnt work to well when your getting pancaked by an advanced TH8 or TH9...) Sorry for the long post, hope you can give me some insights...

I am th7, so I won't have the more experienced advice tat some will have, but I am farther along than you so you be the judge. Getting your ad at least one more level up and the level 5 walls to 6 would be my first priority. Cannons don't take as long as other defenses, so if you have four builders I would put one into 1 of the AD. Get your cannons to 7 with another. You already have 1 working on a mortar. Then use the last one to dump gold on the lvl 5 walls. Offense is also a big priority but you didn't really specify where you are at with that. Once you have your extra walls to 6 use the extra builder however, and just get your walls up between upgrades. Mortars to 5 is more important than archers and cannons to 8 probably, and depending on where you are at with cups having AD maxed isn't completely important ATM but they take a lot of time so it doesn't hurt getting them up moving forward. I have five builders, so I normally kind of keep one mostly free for walls because I don't want a bunch of defense upgrading all at once and my offense is done except some lab and two of the barracks. But I keep one builder on my barracks so I also at least have three usable barracks.

Thanks man. My offense is progressing ok, have L4 arch, WB, and goblin. Wizard upgrading to 4 now. Spell factory is max for TH7. I have four builders huts, and I have been approaching like you suggested, trying to keep one freed up for walls. I have a dark barracks, but getting to the DE on raids is tough... Anyway, I will definately get to work on the L5 walls, I know when I see them when I'm raiding, they dont bother me a bit. Thanks for your help, and happy hunting...

I am really interested in your topic.
So I came in and found you have similar situation and question as mine before.

Let me share my experience
I have total 3 accounts (that is why I called myself Khan3, ^_^)
[account 1] = Lv 53, TH 8 (pink/gold walls, mortar lv 4, AD lv 3, WT lv 2, cannon/AT lv 6-7, tesla lv 1)
[account 2] = Lv 49, TH 7 (pink walls, mortar lv 4, AD lv 3, WT lv 2, cannon/AT lv 7, tesla lv 1)
[account 3] = Lv 42, TH 7 (gold walls, mortar lv 4, AD lv 3, WT lv 1, cannon lv 7, AT lv 6)

From the spec above, account 1 and 2 seem to have very similar def power.
But actually account 1 is much stronger in def !!

My account 2 can be easily raided 60-100% by a proper Giant+Archer+WB army (total nos of unit around 190-200).
But for account 1, this kind of army cannot even hit to 50%.

I found the major factor may be :
- increased nos of walls & def (result in better layout)
- increased nos of facilities (more thing to be hit...^_^ sound funny)

Quick conclusion
Higher TH benefits with more walls and def (better layout) which is more defensive (if bottm line : your defence lv MUST not be too low). Therefore in my opinion, we don't really need to MAX everything before upgrade TH.

Sharing with u what I do... normally

I have 5 builders

I always keep 4 of my builders busy on defences and other buildings.... one I keep free for wall till those are done for a th. Thus I am always eager to get that builder busy... I do upgrade traps with that builder before I go to sleep.

I had done my th7 walls in a week... its not hard.... if u farm well. Its a piece of cake.

So do your walls, defences and troops together...

* builder should never be free
* lab should never be free
* camp should be max asap
* barracks next
* wall builder is an exceptions for few days.

To the OP, at TH 7 lvl 6 walls are the minimum level. I would finish getting the 5 to lvl 6, and then wait on the lvl 7 walls until your defenses are upgraded to maximum. After that, upgrade your walls to lvl 7 as your TH upgrades to 8 for 8 days. This is what I did and it was quick and easy.

This is my farming layout modified to a hybrid. My farming layout had lots of funnels and traps between archer towers and cannons. To start-with the hybrid layout also had those traps but with time I saw many players breaking my th (most frequently after gold 2) and then starting the loot. This base worked well probabilistically...

Do not expect this layout to defend th9s... this layout makes sure you have to give in quite a few troops if you are getting the th first. TH7 in crystal gets 3 starred very often. This can limit it to 2 or 1.

I would upgrade your walls all to lvl 6 then max your defenses, then upgrade all of your walls to level 7

I found that i was getting hit hard whenever i had large amounts of gold, so i decided that i would only ever have a large supply of one resource at a time. I focused on upgrading all my elixir things, including troops, while dumping extra gold into walls. Nobody really seemed to bother me much, and now, i have no need for elixir, so my elixir storages are closer out while my gold storages are kept in tighter in my base. this allows me to have a stronger defense for my gold, and I also think that the walls can be a deterrent to most farmers as, myself included, are not always the best at attacking to go deep into a base. Now I’m working on building upgrades with gold. Hope that helps.
