Q&A: Wall Breaker AI and how it works

I regret not recording this attack, but theres definately a problem here :)

I dropped 2 WBs near the place u see clan castle troops was deployed, and they made a hole. I dropped some other troops destroying the buildings and defence inside. Then i dropped 2 more WBs, that should do the trick on the inside purple wall. But instead of this, the next 6 WBs just kept making the hole bigger, until finally 1 WB ignored the outer wall and went for the middle.

I must say, the new wall breaker Ai is worse than the last. even though they avoid spikes, they have become extremely unpredictable and sometimes dont destroy walls in a straight line that leads to storages. they now curve left and right to destroy other walls instead of going straight to the prize.

If u read the first post by Marika, ull know why they act like they do. But ur right, they are not very good.

I registered to voice my frustration on this topic.

As a player I like to have simple interactions and controllable effect on the outcome of my actions. That does not hold true for Wallbrakers, just check the rules for new WB AI and you will see that they are way too complicated.

If I may make a suggestion. MAKE IT SIMPLE.
Just use a good game mechanic like Angry birds - drop, aim, release. This way player is in full control and does what he wants to with WB.

Now in order to break walls to open up the path (that I want to open) I have to do a whole procedure of things you want me to - like cleaning nearby "pockets" (of sometimes) useless buildings.
In my opinion you made it way to complicated and in no way better (maybe the splash part) then previous version.

1. If you are sending a wall breaker to attack a wall that has 2 or more building in an compartment they will open that compartment, if you send in additional WB's towards that compartment they will continue to open the wall until you clear the building behind them. WB's will only break the wall behind that compartment if you destroy the buildings in it (otherwise you get the dreaded wall expansion).

2. Spamming wall breakers are not an effective strategy anymore, send distraction units, send WBs to break wall, clear compartment, send additional wall breakers to break inner wall, repeat...

3. Use single player mode to learn how to properly understand the new wall breaker AI.

Thanks for the input. I see this is the case. I now feel like i need more troops in order to pull off a succesfull attack on a base with level 9 TH.

You must have misunderstood me. I did not say I have problems understanding how the new WB work. My problem is with the why and how the change was implemented. It could have been much more simple and effective.

All of these are incorrect. There are multiple examples of wbs widening holes in compartments completely cleared of buildings. Also, spamming wbs is much more effective than previously for two reasons. First, wb detonation is faster, preventing the pile up and waste that occurred pre-update. Second, when the first wall blows, the subsequent wall breakers retarget from the spot they are at rather than the spot they were launched from. This allows a crude version of tunneling in some situations. Finally, the single player campaign with its unusual wall configurations really highlights wb AI bugs. It seems that the wb AI isn't optimized for the sorts of unusual patterns that occur there. Anyone trying to learn the wb AI from the single player campaign is going to go crazy.

This was honestly the worst update ever.

The WBs doeos not play as you wish.. They just run like ♥♥♥♥♥♥s to walls completely out of your attack strategy.

They certainly arent smarter now.

I understand Supercell though.. Imagine.. WBs that can detect buildings inside blocks of walls! Thats sweet right?

Sometimes theory sounds better than it really is on practice.

Supercell should rollback the WB update. The old WB was just as perfect as they were. You could make them do whatever you want if you knew how to.

They are supposed to destroy the walls you need them to destroy.. Not the ones they feel like they should aim for.

Edit: Also.. You need more WBs now than EVER... Because you cant expect them to do what you want.. And to make things worst.. Supercell increased its spacing to 2.
