this would disrupt game mechanics on a massive scale all build times are there for a reason.
Perhaps instead of this you can use a certain amount of gems to reduce the amount of time you have left to build instead of using a chunk of your gems. maybe I have 18 hours left on a structure I just got an achievement and i want to have a builder in the morning when I wake up so I can use some gems so that it will finish around the time I wake up instead of it finishing while I'm at work.
I think THAT is a better idea.

Supercell ruled out this idea(s) because
1: COC is a patience game, you have to wait for all your upgrades to be done
2: SC would lose profits and eventally have to shut down
3: Players would advance too fast

yeah i just thought of that...
but there could be multiple applications for this option. maybe have the build times reduced just to seconds before a war begins?
it keeps supercell happy with us spending gems and doesn't ruin game mechanics
How about they let us upgrade our builders for 20 gems, to go 4 times as fast for a day.
In the shop it could maybe say time to upgrade(pic of builder)x1= the time,x2= the time,ect. But the max amount on one construction is 4 builders.
okay double production speed of one builder for 12 hours for 150 gems. that is reasonable.
