Try crystal or high gold league. You can also start making the lightning spells... (don't kill me)
high gold 3 upwards - barching and zapping.
3x lightning will get you a good amount from a full DE store and the barch should get you at least 50% if its done right.
Search town halls that are outside and with many dark elixir. Use those 3 lightning spells and attack the dark barracks. I got mine by doing that. Around 1000-2000 dark elixir found on a match is fine. Not around 200-500 because your just going to waste those lightning spells.

The method is easy. Hover around 1500-1800 trophys. Fill up all 6 barracks with troops (2 with barbs, 2 with archers, and the DB with minions). Have 2 rage and 1 heal cooked at all times (you should never use more than 1 spell per attack and usually no spells). Then when you attack look for exposed drills - if you can get 500 DE with 20 troops take it, forget about losing the trophys and move on to the next attack.
For storages behind 1 or 2 walls clear a path for your minions using the BARCH portion of your army, then send in 1 or two minions to get rid of the air bombs. Once the path is clear send in the minions directly to the DE storage. Use a rage or heal if you find over 1200 DE.
edit: I have no moral objection to using lightning on DE. In fact, if a th9 mows you down I think it's a good way to get back at bullys who pick on little guys! But, it's still not efficient.

in M3 you can farm dark and avearge 2 to 3k per raid plus 400 bonus.
