Town Hall 7 and TH Placement

I'm on townhall 7 and have just made it to Crystal 2. I'm wondering why players put town hall inside of defenses. it seems to me that if a player is online, then it doesn't matter where his th is at. and if a player is offline, they would likely prefer a shield. why not put th on outside for the quick cheap shield when you know you're not gonna be online? surely the trophies lost for losing to a th snipe, is well offset by what you earn during your raiding sessions.

Just curious. I only recently started getting serious about the game.

Maybe they think their base is strong enough to withstand any strong attack and can rejoin their game without losing a defence...or they just hate the whole idea of TH sniping and decide to not give out any easy trophies.

there's a handful of th8's in crystal and above. and even feweer th7.s. There's no way a th7 could realistically withstand th9+ attacks regularly.

I've got to be missing something. I've maxed out th7 and have a solid base design. yet th9's, even 8's, regularly wipe me out.

Simple formula...Cups raided - Cups lost = net gain. Raid a lot more than you get hit...but as a TH 7 I don't think anyone is going to be raiding you for anything but cups at crystal 2...might as well put TH outside to avoid getting 3 starred. Someone might just come along with a couple archers and take 1 star.
