I thought a shield was supposed to be up for 12 hours after being attacked. Yet my village has been attacked several times within the space of a couple of hours… What gives?

I thought a shield was supposed to be up for 12 hours after being attacked. Yet my village has been attacked several times within the space of a couple of hours… What gives?
The shield only activates if your town hall is destroyed or you lose 40% of your buildings. If either of those don't happen, you can get attacked again.
To combat this, place your town hall outside your walls on purpose. If you lose your town hall in the attack, you won't get attacked again until your shield runs out or you decide to break the shield by attacking.
