So apparently censoring the word "gay" is ok to you, Hay Day? I've spent actual real dollars in this game, and as a member of the LGBT community I am extremely upset. Gay can mean anything from happy to homosexual. It certainly doesn't warrant censoring? It's not an offensive word unless you have an agenda against homosexuals or happiness? What gives, Hay Day?!
I agree, making us find phrases to describe "gay" because we just can't say gay is inherently wrong, and gives the impression that there is something profane about being gay, or having a gay time at, say, an online party. I support the removal of the word "gay" from the profanity list wholeheartedly. I have two same gender pairs of gnomes on my farm, and am proud that my farm is home to a diverse group of gnomes.
LOL Ok... you really made me laugh. You're definitely in a "gay" frame of mind today. lol Thank you for supporting such diversity. It's just such a stupid word to have on the black list. Try typing in "expecting a yes," and you'll see it even does it with spaces.
The only reson hay day censors it is because it is a family game.
I certanly agree with u both.... My best friend rl is a wonderful gay princess.... But i can see that maybe its censored cuz kids without vocabular uses it as a bad word....

I think "gay" is an acceptable term for our LGBT friends and family members -- unlike other crude and hurtful terms that are out there. I support removing 'gay' from the block list, but would not like to see the uglier cruder terms removed.
When I was in high school we knew about gay people but never thought we had any gay people in our class. Now that we are all adults we have at least 5 gay members -- out of a graduating class of 54. Ironically some of the loudest anti-gay boys in high school are now out and living openly as gay men.
I think more acceptance of the gay people among us will short-circuit a lot of hate in our culture, and will make for healthier people.
And I think that children can be exposed to the word gay in all its meanings without making hay day family unfriendly.
News flash: My daughter has a gay friend who told everyone at school -- AND the kids were accepting and caring. We need to emulate their empathy by not acting like the word gay is offensive and needs to be ******ed out.

Willa, we have something similar in our neighborhood. The two Gay ladies across the street have been together for a long time. They are kind and sweet and take care of their property. One has a daughter and the two ladies often go out of town to visit and we watch their house and cats. Right next door is a man and woman who live together. There are kids but I don't know who they belong to. BUT these two fight like cats and dogs, screaming obscenities at each other, breaking things, and racing off in their car. The police have been called multiple times to keep these two from killing each other. I feel so sorry for the kids. Guess which neighbors we prefer. And a twist. The gay couple are married. Visitors, aka little people, aka (by tiger at least :P) serial killers are the NPC folk that come up to your farm and ask for products. Depending on your current goal and resources many people dislike their requests (asking for valuable items from barn at low prices) or love them for dumping overflow of crops unwanted barn items.
P.S. Why do you call them serial killers btw? I have to admit I find it disturbing that Little Red Riding Hood asks axes for *grand-ma* but we dont know what they are actually going to use them for :P
It's Tiggerr , two r's and two g's and it's my legal first name. Tigers bite, Tiggerrs bounce and I call them the little serial killers because they always ask for saws and axes on my farm and I watch a lot of crime dramas during the day when I also farm. They were called little people by someone when I first started before we had events that called them the visitors. Yes we are, but as it seems we are all in agreement that gay should not be censored, I don't know where we go from here. It is clear that the word is only censored in the neighborhood chat not the forum. At the start SC had a thread about the weird censorship issues and have tweaked the filter based on what was listed. I don't spend much time in the NH chats so I don't notice the filter. My best advice is to send a PM to Nick and ask him what he thinks. I'd also suggest you send him a link to this thread. We mainly have just one or two mods watching our board because we are pretty well behaved. But the mods don't have any control over items like this. Nick is supercell staff and has more privileges.Quote:

I have a feeling this more about the people who Do use the word Gay as a negative term, ie "That is so Gay". It is never going to be possible to have any kind of obscenity filter that is perfect for everyone. When you have Millions of players, you have to err on the side of going too far, I think.
I know many people won't agree with me when I say I'm glad it's censored but hear me out. I don't think Neen meant it that way. I'm all for the removal of the word "gay" from the blacklist, my reasons being those that have already been stated by others. But I think all Neen was trying to say is that Supercell is just putting a general blanket over any adult-related topic. Generally speaking a society construct the definitions of terms. Social constructionism is based on other social factors found in that society. In more acceptable societies the word gay has become part of our normal vocabulary without having any negative meaning most of the time, at least to most of us in the U.S. (Can only speak of US because I am part of that society. I am very confident is similar in Canada and some European countries).
Now, with that being said, do you believe that perhaps SC censors the word gay because HD is played in many other countries where being gay is illegal and thus the need to censor it?
you have completely missed my point. What does alchohol have to do with being gay? Nothing. I was simply using those two adult topics as examples of censored words. They are unrelated except for that fact in my original post. I see you are obviously flustered. THIS may be the exact reason those words are censored. To protect us from misunderstandings regarding sensitive topics. Ever heard of not discussing religion & politics in pubs? This is why. Ok. Over in the off topic section I play a game on the hay day game forum. Some of the clashers have decided to descend on our little game and they went nuts. Insulting each other, changing the rules claiming to have PM'd a mod but in reality photo shopping or altering a picture of a fake PM and just getting annoying. One of the mods had to edit something written by one of the guys because it was probably profanity. Most of the players over there are under 15 or 16 and they can't always control themselves. They keep the mods so busy that even the one assigned to us has to deal with them because they can't stay on their own forum. Yeah yeah they play hay day too, or so they say, but the two I had on my friends list have already quit before they got to level 20.
Anyway. My point is that while we can't see why the subject can't be discussed among reasonable people, the chat filter is also the same one that is used for them and they have had this kind of chat longer than we have. I imagine words got added to the filter as they got abused over there. And since they don't stay over there, the erring on the side of caution theory came into play.
So another reason that might annoy us but a reason none the less. Once again, I suggest sending a PM to Nick might get you an answer. I'll send him a PM and suggest he pop over here to read this post and maybe he can answer your question. We may all be wrong. How's that sound? I think the reason the word gay is censored is because SC wishes to keep the game both family friendly and farm centered. The chat feature and the forums are designed for players to give and receive help and to make friends. I think SC wants to avoid political and religious arguments, as those two subjects have a tendency to move from friendly discussion to angry argument rather quickly. And being gay is currently both a religious and political issue. While many people live a gay lifestyle and many others support that lifestyle, even if they do not choose it for themselves, there are still lots of people who believe that lifestyle is wrong and/or are uncomfortable with the topic. I don't think SC censored the word because they want to make a social/political statement about the issue, but rather because SC feels that HD is not the medium to promote or discourage any controversial issues. I don't think the argument that gay is family friendly, because there are families where some of the members are gay is valid because there are many families who feel that gay is wrong and wish to educate their children about the subject themselves and/or with other trusted sources. I think SC understands this and wishes to support the parents right to educate their children as they see fit. Ultimately this is a farming game and not a platform for pushing social agendas. Especially as being gay or not being gay has nothing to do with running a successful HD farm. While gay also means happy, in todays society gay is rarely used in that manner. So by censoring the word, SC cuts down on the potential for people to insult each other, become angry about differing opinions, and they help keep the focus on the farm.
By censuring "gay" as if it was a dirty word, Supercell are taking sides in these discussions. In my opinion, very much the wrong side.

Totally agree! I don't get why people automatically assume people have nefarious reasons for things. The profanity filter is a program, SC has been removing those things that shouldn't be there, but I think it's going to take a while to get to them all. In the latest version of Hay Day we introduced the chat, and with that, a bit more strict profanity filter. Since Hay Day supports several languages and each language has its own bad words which again can be ok in some other languages, there are cases where the filter doesn't work as intended.
Could you please post in this thread normal words you have stumbled across which have become stars? For example, somehow is **mehow and even "so" is **. Words like that. Please don't post words which you know are blacklisted for a good reason.

This thread is already a debate, and you are telling people to leave the neighbourhood if they don't like it..!! I would say that is tantamount to bullying.. If the chat gets unruly or aggravated for whatever reason, there is a report button.. It's not obvious discrimination as you say either, you are just presuming that because of that one word, unless it has been specifically blacklisted for a certain reason..?? If this is the case, then I apologise in advance.
You only need to see some of the words meanings in other languages which would offend even more on here, words and acronyms which we see and use on here every day... In our neighbourhood, we all used to go "gishing" because the word "fish" was not allowed..

I still am not convinced SC purposely did it for any particular word. When they opened the neighborhood chat, the profanity filter was set ridiculously strict. They opened a thread for people to post words they came across that shouldn't be censored. I just reread the first few posts and even just in that short time, there are several instances where something perfectly okay in English has a different meaning in another country. Just throwing that all out there. If anyone is interested this is the profanity filter thread...lots and lots of innocent words got censored:

I suggest we wait for someone to Supercell to tell us whether this was an oversight or a deliberate decision. If it is an oversight, like many people hope, then there's no issue.
I'm a bit puzzled by opinions that the word gay isn't compatible with a family-friendly game. If my kid wasn't old enough to know about gay people and what it means then I don't think I'd consider them old enough to be launched into a chat facility with complete strangers either, quite honestly...
I'm sure there are very few schools out there that don't have a pupil with two mothers or two fathers instead of your standard parents, and there are an abundance of TV shows that feature gay couples. Trying to shield a child from something that is increasingly becoming an accepted part of Western society is just asking for problems by confusing your child with mixed messages.Quote:

Children are sometimes more open-minded because of their innocence. What adults might see as a sensitive, controversial topic, children might not have the same difficulty talking about it or voicing their opinions on it. It is the same among adults. Some might not consider the topic of homosexuality as sensitive (as it shouldn't be in this day and age but that is just my opinion) , but to others because of their personal beliefs or whatnot (not trying to discount anyone's beliefs here) they might not be as comfortable addressing the topic.
So for anyone that says the censoring of the word "gay" is to "protect the children in a family-game", IMO that is irrelevant.
As for OP's request to remove the word from the blacklist, you have my support because homosexuality shouldn't be a topic that should be swept under a carpet and to pretend it doesn't exist.
BUT, in saying that, I must also say that I can see why SC has censored the word "gay" and I agree with their intentions (if that's what they were intending to do). To be fair to SC, let's look at it from their perspective. I think it's reasonable to assume that they did not censor the word because they were anti-gay. No, because a public company such as SC would receive unlimited amount of backlash from the community, both gay and straight, if that was the purpose of the censor. Stay with me. It would also be reasonable to assume that their purpose of censoring "gay" is to prevent players in game from engaging in debates/discussions that could potentially spiral out of control due to in-game chats not being moderated (besides the reporting function). The Hay Day community consists of players from all walks of life. The purpose of the censor could very well be just to prevent people from mis-using "gay" as a form of verbal abuse towards other players. Yes, the OP feels that gays are being marginalised because the word is censored. But looking at the bigger picture, I have to agree with SC censoring the word.
I think there is a huge amount of indiscriminate censoring (if you will excuse the phraseology) going on in the cubbies, and "gay" is just an example of a perfectly acceptable word being caught up in the extremely wide censorship net that has been cast over our houses. You say you can see the bigger picture in this overly- sensitive censoring, but, I would love to have someone provide a reasoned justification why the word "parsley" is censored. SC is still working on tweaking the filter. As for the word "parsley", it gets caught due to the letter combo "ars", which is another word for bottom that the Victorian filter blushes on. If SC deems the letter combos or words that they are part of to be harmless, they will remove them from the filter as they have time to do so. However, if they feel that the letter combos or words can be used to insult, bully, or otherwise be used to hurt others, they will leave it filtered.
