Why does Hay Day censor the word gay???

I think the reason the word gay is censored is because SC wishes to keep the game both family friendly and farm centered. The chat feature and the forums are designed for players to give and receive help and to make friends. I think SC wants to avoid political and religious arguments, as those two subjects have a tendency to move from friendly discussion to angry argument rather quickly. And being gay is currently both a religious and political issue. While many people live a gay lifestyle and many others support that lifestyle, even if they do not choose it for themselves, there are still lots of people who believe that lifestyle is wrong and/or are uncomfortable with the topic. I don't think SC censored the word because they want to make a social/political statement about the issue, but rather because SC feels that HD is not the medium to promote or discourage any controversial issues. I don't think the argument that gay is family friendly, because there are families where some of the members are gay is valid because there are many families who feel that gay is wrong and wish to educate their children about the subject themselves and/or with other trusted sources. I think SC understands this and wishes to support the parents right to educate their children as they see fit. Ultimately this is a farming game and not a platform for pushing social agendas. Especially as being gay or not being gay has nothing to do with running a successful HD farm. While gay also means happy, in todays society gay is rarely used in that manner. So by censoring the word, SC cuts down on the potential for people to insult each other, become angry about differing opinions, and they help keep the focus on the farm.

By censuring "gay" as if it was a dirty word, Supercell are taking sides in these discussions. In my opinion, very much the wrong side.

Why do you assume SC are censuring the word gay or taking sides? The software has been added into the chat feature and the software comes with words that are already censured.
SC have created a sticky thread for us to tell them what words we would like to be lifted from the profanity filter.
To create a thread like this only creates an unhealthy debate and should be locked my the mods in mho.

Totally agree! I don't get why people automatically assume people have nefarious reasons for things. The profanity filter is a program, SC has been removing those things that shouldn't be there, but I think it's going to take a while to get to them all. It's been reported here now, and I'm sure they will review it.

If that were the case, then many other words need to be filtered too. Such as "god", "Jesus", "Allah" etc... Yet I see farm names with such words. If people can use their farm names like "Jesus loves you" to spread their religious beliefs to others who do not share them, then we're on a slippery slope. What can we allow and who can we allow... If we need to censor words that will potentially cause religious or political arguments then where do we draw the line?

Very well said Rebecca... I wasn't going to respond to this thread, but here I go... I play this game knowing that I won't have to deal with vulgarity, violence, sexual prefrence, political views or the like, I am very selective as to what games I play, tv shows I watch, the music I listen to, and so on. People that believe or think differently than me is quite alright with me, I don't judge anyone, I don't try to push my thoughts or beliefs on anyone here, we all have freedom of choice :) But I should not be forced to make a choice to play this game or not because SC changes the game just to make you all happy, yes, this is a family game, safe for everyone and I like that. This game is about farming period and SC has great success just as it is ;) This game is a safe place for everyone, lets just enjoy the game
But, if this game ever goes into another direction, I won't think twice about deleting the game.

This. Gay is not a dirty word to be censored. I don't see people partaking in debates anywhere, and if you didn't like it just leave the neighborhood. I didn't start this thread to start a debate. I started this thread because of the obvious discrimination going on here.
