SC did a good job of masking if a base is inactive or not. The easiest way to tell is by the set up. Obviously if it is set up for farming, it is either run by an inactive player or made to be a decoy trap. Knowing if bases have inactive players is critical for Clan Wars, especially in the final 10 mins when you are deciding if you need to squeeze out some more stars or if you are free to zerg a hi-profit target. Any insight?
Why does it matter if they're inactive or not? Inactive people get war castle troops just like other people. I think they're traps work too.

The smart clans are waiting to see what the enemy does and then wait til the last few hours to launch an attack. If you can count the number of active players, you can predict exactly how many attacks the enemy has available.
Ex) if you have 10 mins left in the war and you are up by 1 star, and the enemy shows 2 players with attacks still left. Do you use your last attack on a lowbie to ensure the victory OR do you acknowledge that you've already won and attack the top level base for the best post-war gain? If you know the enemy has no more attacks left, the choice is clear.
You can check to see how much gold and elixir they have in their pumps, if they are full they aren't active.
You could just search their clan, and see how many people don't have shields, or have full collectors.
Either way though, I don't think this is realistically useful. So far, my clan has done 2 wars, and neither of them were close. It's unlikely that with 10 minutes left, it matters weather you get 1 or 3 stars. In addition, they might have active players, but they're probably not online, and probably won't be until the war ends.
