When Should I Upgrade my Town Hall to Level 9?

Here is my Current base. I was wondering when I should upgrade my town hall to level 9? Some people have made good arguments for and against maxing out defenses. I think town hall 9 would be useful in keeping out hogs. I would love to have a couple of X-Bows and an archer queen.

But before I upgrade I wanted to know everyone's opinions on what I should do next. Personally I think I should get all my walls to level 7. I think that getting all of my walls to level 8 will take to much time but i wasn't sure if it would be worth it or not.

So just tell me what you think I need to upgrade next if anything before i hit town hall 9. Thanks!

Dude, you should upgrade your TH when you max all of your defenses, especially Wiz T's, Air D's, Teslas and point defenses. Don't forget about your walls! It's my opinion, but if you want do be a premmie it's your choice. Good luck! :)

Loot gets worse at Town Hall 9. Therefore, I think you should spend as much time as you can to get your walls as a high a level you can before upgrading (as I will too, in the same situation except all my walls are level 7 already). However, you should really max those wizard towers first and definitely get a farming composition + pushing composition researched, and also fill those storages before upgrading so you can get both xbows off the bat and upgrade your lab & get the DE drill.

I personally would get your walls all up to at least level 7 (if not 8, they'll only get more costly as you go) before you go up, and max out your wizards. I mean honestly it all depends on how good of a raider you are. If you successfully farm a few million a day and don't have trouble keeping your elixir full just go up. If not, wait you aren't going to hurt yourself doing so. You eventually get to the point that you have to do the upgrades sometime, I just prefer to do it when gold is a little easier to come by (TH8 vs TH9). I have maxed cannons, wizards and mortar at town hall 8 146 lvl 7 walls and 79 lvl 8 walls and I'm not really considering going up yet. I still have to get my archers from level 9-10, air D needs to go up, will get teslas up a level or two and then hopefully finish a few more troop and BK upgrades in the meantime.

Its all about how you want to play though, and if you have a ton of time to farm there is no reason to stay if you already maxed your troops that you use in the lab.

Okay well I have my spell factory and my lab at max level right now. My dark elixir drill is level 2 but i'm waiting for the more important stuff to be upgraded first.

Alright. I have plenty of free time and id say id average around 2 million+ a day in elixir and gold but not sure about dark elixir.

I'm just in the same boat so I feel your itch to go up right now, its really hard to resist! I just keep telling myself I'd rather get this stuff out of the way now and get to th9 at the point where people can't instantly tell I'm new to the town hall lol. That's a pretty good grab, shouldn't take long to get the walls up and knock the wizard towers out. Splash damage is one of the things to focus on asap at each town hall.

I know what you mean. There is only so much a town hall 8 can really do. With the troops I have even though there are all almost maxed I have trouble keeping up with crystal. Also my base can't keep up with the all hog attacks or being hit by 10 dragons and 4 spells.

Try to hold on, just upgrade all your defense and wall up to level 7. No need to hurry mate, take your time.. But at the end of the day you will decide. Loot penalty is just in the corner. :rolleyes:

I definitely wanted to get all the walls up to level 7. Then at least get all the intersections/ where the walls meet up to level 8.

If you have all max troops i would say get your walls to atleast 7 since its cheap and loots good at th8. As long as your wiz twrs, morters, air def, teslas are maxed then you should be fine. However, i did all my defences but 25 walls and it was extremely helpful when i reached th9 at about lvl 86.

Alright. I have my work cut out for me then as i can upgrade my wizard towers a few more times. I was thinking about air defense but having one upgrading is a huge inconvenience. So i was thinking maybe wait for th 9 so i can have 3 while the 4th builds and upgrades.

Definantly Max all defensive structures and get all walls to at least level 7! Also Max all troops in the lab!

Does that include troops I don't use? i'm not a big fan of goblins or dragons. Should i upgrade either of those?

Yes, well maybe no on gobs if you never use but I mean everything. At th9 troop upgrades cost up to 7.5 million elix and take 2 weeks! Eventually you will need Max level drags or pekka or wizzies because that's all that will
Cut it later on. Finish lab upgrades and while your waiting on lab to be maxxed upgrade those Defensive buildings and some walls. Loot is harder to find at th9! I know it's tempting to upgrade, those xbows so sexy, but trust me man coming from someone who demolishes premature th9s wait!

Also, if your having trouble saving resources from attacks try a new base such as a farming one with TH on outside for cheap shield! There are literally millions of th8 farming base designs on the forums. Try Junliang's pokeball base or one of the many amazing designs from Orz such as tempest or shuriken.

I don't really have a problem with my base. I haven't really been attacked since using this base. I keep the TH inside in order to not give the other clans free stars in war mode. I just spend all my gold on walls when I get up to 200,000 I also just upgraded my DE storage which is why it shows I'm low on all my resources.

I recommend you upgrade ALL your troops (except valks and golems) to the highest lvl at TH8. As for minions and hogs, get them to lvl 3 atleast...very helpful later on. Even if you dont use goblins or drags now, you'll need them later...though I recommend using lvl 5 gobs for farming, very effective.

As for walls, dont worry about getting all of them to level 8, level 7 is enough. Just aim for like 30-50 lvl 8 walls. This should be very easy if your actively farming and and using a correct farming method.

And I also recommend keeping townhall outside for free shields, they help alot when u have no builders and alot of loot. The base I used at TH8 is called "trapception"(google it and click the first result...should be a thread on this website),and this base works well.

Alright it looks like a good base. If my current one doesn't work i will try that design.

You should have done it last month.

As long as your offense is max, you should go on. I mean the things you need to farm. Barbs, Archers, Gobs, Minions and spells. Then move on. If you are active then the loot will come.

Everyone that I see chilling at TH 8 or 9 is struggling to do anything because they cant appropriately attack or defend.

I was also thinking this. I will also have the 10 days that the TH upgrades to further upgrade my walls, wizard towers and everything else

max and fill up elixir storages...
when elixir is overflowing and you no more battle for elixir, you're ready to go th9
