Oh well, as I do, on every new update, I start looking in the game files. Here are the results:

So, The minion and the hog rider are available for th7, on the other hand, th9&8 can unlock every troop. TH9 will ONLY be able to max those troops.

Dragons and wizards also have splash damage! Good to deal with clan castle troops or to protect your village in the clan castle.

It is DE. That is what the new troops are based on.
@OP I assume you are looking at an xml file. Hopefully you have written an xml parser to make it easier :) that is what I did for a different iOS game. But be careful, sometimes they add things to the file that they haven't decided on adding into the game yet. (such as seasonal items and what not).

I will change my post.
I can think of 2 cases
1) DE Troops are an exception, building a level 1 DE Barrack will not unlock the Minion, we will need to "upgrade" them to level 1 before we can build minions using the DE Barrack.
2) There are a total of 6 levels for these DE Troops, and not 5. << Seems unlikely.
Both cases seems unlikely..
Now I'm wondering if these DE Troops upgrade will take place in the same lab or not.. its already crowded as it is right now !

Since spells are also upgraded using the "normal" lab, i guess its all gonna be there.

I just compared the current code with the old code
If it says that the minion will cost 10000 level 1 that means that doesn't mean level 1 will cost that much that mean the update from level 1 to level 2 will cost that much.
BTW there will be no new lab

The new troops are really for the top players. Coz i think DE is too precious to spend on troops. Not easy to get good raids to make a net DE profit.

This update is going to completely revamp how defenses work and what is important.
I see Minions as basically flying barbarians. Will be countered by air defense/archer tower/wizard tower/hidden tesla.
Valkyrie is an overgrown Giant. Cannon/archer tower/mortar will be main defense against these.
Hog rider is going to be the biggest problem I think. Walls will not delay them so fast shooting defenses are going to be the best counter. Mortars likely pretty useless as they won't bunch up to flow through holes in walls.
Overall I think mortars are going to become less useful and archer towers are going to increase in value considerably. Tesla will also become more needed, especially in block defense of resources.
Combine these changes with the "improved" wall breaker AI and we are in for a serious game changing update here.
Oh, and dragon splash damage - about time already!!! :D
CoC defense and units are known to attack stuffs which u don't want them to attack.
I suspect, with the right ratio of flying and ground troops, as well as deploy timing, battle replays would be a pain to watch....
First off, thanks for this!
I am concerned about the minion cost... At level fully upgraded, it takes 3 times the amount of dark elixir per troop, while the others may take double at most. The stat growth doesn't seem all that great for taking three times the amount. I mean, 30 minions = 180 dark elixir (which is very reasonable with 2 max DE pumps, if you attack someone with a little dark elixir). 10 max level minions also equals 180 dark elixir. Lets look at some of the anti air defenses and how the extra hps would affect it..
Some thoughts:
Vs. Archer towers
- Level 1 minions can be killed in 1 shot from a level 9 archer tower
- Level 2 minions can be killed in 1 shot from a level 10 archer tower
- Level 5 minions can't be killed in 1 shot from any level of archer tower. Not many people have level 11 archer towers since they cost a fortune and take forever to build.
- For anti-archer defense, minion level 3 or 4 is the sweet spot -- 8 or 9 dark elixir and they need max archer towers to 1 shot them.
Vs. Rockets:
- All minions can be 1 shot by a level 1 rocket
Vs. Wizards
- All minions can eat two shots from a level 7 wizard tower.
- You need at least a level 5 wizard tower to 2 shot L1 minions, otherwise it takes 3 shots. Using our sweet spot of L3 / L4 minions, they can eat 3 shots from a level 5 wizard tower, level 6 is the minimum needed to always 2 shot minions
Vs. Teslas
Note: Teslas fire at 0.6 speed, but never can do enough damage to 1 shot a minion at max rank. We're going to base this off how many seconds it takes to kill a minion based on 0.6 seconds per shot. Also, there's so many differences, I'm basing this analysis off of level 4 minions. Also, teslas aren't triggered by air units, but they will attack them if they have been triggered, so they aren't really an ideal minion defense.
- It takes 2.4 seconds to kill a L4 minion with a L1 Tesla
- L5 Tesla can kill a L4 minion in 1.2 seconds. This is the most efficient, because L6 is also 1.2 seconds for both L4 and L5 minions.
Vs X-Bow:
I think with this update, people are going to have to perma switch their x-bows to anti ground+air, because barring anti air defenses, they are by far the best defense against minions. I'm too lazy to figure out how many shots to specifically take for time alive, so I'm going to calculate this one purely off of damage per second:
- L4 can survive for around ~1.5 seconds against a L1 xbow, ~1.2 seconds against a L2 xbow, and ~0.8 seconds vs. a L3 xbow
vs. anti air defenses and the end of using dark elixir bombs pre trophy hunting:
All air bombs will 1 shot any level of minion, so using the basic ones will be key to always have up. The dark elixir bomb is an overkill for costing 600 dark elixir when it could be triggered by 1 6 DE minion. They wont be used, period, outside of high end trophy hunting.
So in conclusion -- do not upgrade minions past L4 unless you are some rich oil shieke in the UAE. TH7 is going to get destroyed by minions, TH8 slightly better (better archer towers), but they wont do much against a TH9 due to 3 anti-air rockets, L11 archer towers, four tesla's and especially x-bow's
I dont think its gonna be a huge problem. The cost to upgrade is already abit high. And to make them with 1 barrack is gonna be time wasting. Well we'll see in a few weeks time. For now i guess the normal troops, AQ and BK are way more effective in raids.

Guys, I am taking down the upgrade costs of the de troops, since we aren't 100% sure of them
The new time to train dragons is 30 minutes? Maybe I'm a little foggy this morning, but wasn't it 30 minutes before?
Some other thoughts...:
Minions are cheap enough they should be able to be used for farming high end bases (although it will slow down upgrading your hero units...). It will force all TH9 players to change their x-bows to anti-air, which will change the ground game significantly for other troops. A well played TH9 player with dual pumping dark elixirs will always have enough DE to attack people with minions if the person has at least 150 or 200 DE to steal (which is very, very common at the moment, maybe not so much once the patch is in and people can make DE units). Because TH8 lacks xbows and some of the extra oomph to deal with L4 minions, it will make them extremely vulnerable to a TH9 attack (they can use minions more liberally because of that pump). The TH9 vs. TH9 farming game gets tricky, but it will make the L6 barbarians, archers, etc. stronger because of the change to the anti air xbow if you don't want to get minion stomped.
I don't see Valkyries being used outside of the high end game. They are too expensive for farming, unless they add more sources of DE to the game. Maybe we'll log in and TH9 can build more then 2 pumps? If you want a friend for life, donate them all valks to their clan castle. Having a bunch of valks pop up will pretty much stop any attack.
Hog riders is completely dependent on their AI. If they prefer defenses, then it might be worth having a couple on hand to pair with giants who soak the damage while the hogs take out the defenses before the walls are cracked. If they prefer anything, there will be too many ways to make them just whack on a pointless resource or something else and they will just get eaten alive. They also are too expensive to use them in big packs for anything other then a serious trophy attack.
Wizards might see more play now depending on the size of their splash. Also, you will make friends for life by donating wizards to someones CC for defense.
Balloons still suck, however if you couple them with minions, if air defenses get lucky and start on the minions first, it could actually allow time for your balloon to do something rather then rofl-explode before it even drops a bomb. They still take too long to build and take too much storage to ever be used effectively.
The dark elixir barrack will make it interesting because anyone that uses it all the time will be able to replenish their armies much faster. I never thought these new troops would be very useful to farmers, but if the minion is playable, I think they'll be a staple in armies due to their cheap cost and the added bonus of a fifth producing barracks.
