The Phoenix - TH7 Farming Base

Basic idea is to use collectors and a few open defensive units to lure enemy troops through a ring of traps and crossfire. Let me know your thoughts!

Note: The initial openings into the base are not trapped, but are designed to look like they might be trapped. I expect some attackers would try to drop troops on those entrances, in the hopes of setting off traps that don't exist, thus slightly weakening their attacking force.

And of course the primary traps are all in the interior, to ensure they can't be force set-off by an attacker. The spring traps setup at the top to protect the mortars from the giant/healer combo (you can't heal a giant that's been flung off the battlefield! :)

That base looks kind of interesting. I really like how you have a four-way funnel going on. One thing I noticed is that you put all your spring traps on one side of the base. That in my opinion is not a good choice. I see why you did that; you have both your teslas on the bottom to "patch" that. But having all of them on one side limits when they could actually come into play. If someone attacks from the bottom and goes through your defenses they won't get to those spring traps for awhile. And spring traps can really change a lot in a defense. I suggest having 2 on one side and 2 on the other to ensure that no matter what side you are attacked something will get hit by a spring trap. Just a thought. I would actually try out this base but because of clan wars it is actually against the rules in my clan to put my town hall outside of my walls. I would get kicked. ARRRRRGGGHHH!

a base like this just makes it tooo easy for a TH8 with Max troops like myself to take all your loot.

I edited my OP, not sure if I did it in time for you to see. But the reason the spring traps are at the top is because that is where both mortars are. This helps to protect from a giant/healer attack that could target those mortars, because when three giants get flung off the map, ain't nothing that healer can do about it!

Instead of stroking yourself perhaps you'd care to elaborate on how you'd break this base?

Also, my greatest defense against higher town halls is to:

1. Be out of their trophy range so I'm not targeted

2. Spend my resources instead of leaving them hanging around, so that there's little to gain from targeting me.

Ah, in that case nevermind!

Just swapped my wizard towers and gold storage. yes, it puts my storages closer together, but it also ensures that each wizard tower covers two entrances into the base, so everything is locked up better with coverage.

Very interesting base might even tr it after clan wars keep making bases. i wonder if you could incorporate this design theme into a trophy base

Pretty easy with the large middle compartment and lack of need to protect storages in Clan Wars IMO.

To the OP- looks interesting at a glance! :) I'll have to look at it closer. What are the most common attacks on it?

One quick weakness is wallbreakers to the core compartment.

Very interesting base. I seriously loled at your response. What kinda gamer comes on to a forum for tactics and strategies and says that kind of stuff about a guy looking to get input on a base?
Yep, he's stroking himself! Pure gold karn.

I just switched to this base last night, so can't comment on its effectiveness vs a tighter, more compartmentalized defense. But I've been wanting to play around with funneling and figured this design gives that a shot.

Good lord clan wars has been a nightmare. Wouldn't let me scout anyone, only let me attack "recommended" targets which were a cakewalk, I wanted to hit stronger guys, but at least I got our team 6 stars and at the moment we're winning the war.

Yes, my biggest concern would be someone using wallbreakers from the southeast or southwest sections of the wall to try to gain access to the core. Not sure how well it holds up under that type of assault, but figure that would be the most effective route.

I'm hopeful that if someone attempts that:

1. The base defenses will wipe the wallbreakers before they can reach the core; or

2. The enemy troops pouring into the first walls breach will all wind up split up and weakened into smaller groups by the funneling design.

nice design

I updated my OP with a new image showing the wizard towers and gold storages swapped. I'm wondering if I should also even up the top right and left sides of this design (i.e. move a bomb and giant bomb over to the left and then move some of the barracks over to the right?

Anyone else with an opinion or constructive criticism? :)

Ok..the base looks good . But what abt the attackers point of view..
A good clasher can immediately understand where r ur spring traps with one look at ur base.. also don't think no one gonna put th outside due to clan wars..

Fortunately not everyone is a good clasher :) Also, if they try to send giants from the south to avoid the spring traps, that keeps two of my mortars safer from the giants assault. And if they attack from the north, they run into the traps. Not to mention my hope is that the design will still funnel them into the traps. It's untested at this point as no one has challenged me.

As far as clan wars go, that's been a fiasco from the start, so who knows how well that will go. We're winning our war, but had a hell of a time actually being able to click attack.

On top of that, I don't think the rewards in the war are going to come close to what I could farm for in the same amount of time, from a farmers point of view, the clan war is a waste of our time. I'll earn much more farming over 24-48 hours than I will messing my base for the war.

Not to mention you can just flip your base design right before the prep phase closes, then switch back.

Still haven't been attacked yet, but if anyone is trying this one on for size and has feedback on their results please let me know! :D

Um If I was the attacker I would send a gob to trigger any traps then I'll send more to distract the defences. Next Wall breakers to the core and send a horde of gobs and Barbs.

You can't just send a goblin to "trigger the traps" as it would get chewed by the defenses as it was distracted by the resources in the funnel area.

The buildings in the funnel will slow attackers enough that crossfire from the defenses should make short work of them while they run in circles, firing off traps, etc.

V3 of my design is up in the OP, but you'll find I've balanced the top right and left with buildings and traps equalized. And then moved the elixir storages behind the mortars to provide better separation of my storages and put them into a more heavily defended section of the base.

First real attack just hit, attacker came from the north, sent archers to remove my TH first, then sent in a wave of giants into my north funnel. Here's the results of the attack:

59 x Archers
23 x Giants
4 x Minions
10 x Goblins
Clan Castle Troops (more giants)

Attacker did 25% damage and got the following resources:

131,562 elixir (I had over a million in my storages)
900 gold

The spring traps were fabulous, sent three giants flying each time. Three of them were triggered in the assault.

Another attack and the results:

Attacker came from top and middle right-side of the base with the following force (all Level 4 unless otherwise noted)

111 Archers
58 Goblins
23 Barbarians
6 Wallbreakers
Barbarian King (lvl 1)
Rage Spell (lvl 3)
Clan Castle Allies - all archers


Not sure why, but my own clan castle troops never sallied out to defend in this battle, a bug with the clan wars update?

Anyway, here's the results of his attack:

Damage: 47%
Gold: 122,817
Elixer: 4,173
Dark Elixer: 72


I don't know that I'm pleased with the results, my core was breached. However, not all my defenses are fully upgraded yet, my mortars all have one more level to upgrade, my wizard towers are both only lvl 2, all my cannons can be upgraded one more level and two of my archers towers as well.

I guess I can be pleased he didn't get everything, not sure if I should still utilize this setup or try a more closed and segmented setup.
