I think they are pretty equal in general. I never see a bad raid 50% my base. Sure, expensive long training armies do, but that makes sense. I'd rather have a game where skilled raiders can win on offense rather than a game where they can't. That would be broken. If you are in champion league and don't win on defense go to crystal. You'll win a lot then.

Of course offense is better, especially when people use 5 spells and max heroes, and gem them every battle. Pretty much everywhere else in the game (besides high level champ) defense holds its on just fine against reasonable forces.

Offense is overall definitely better, as it should be. The uproar that would happen if it was too hard to win battles would be insane. Mid-game, they are about equal with a slight nod to offense when we're talking about farming armies.
But if you drop the elixir on an hour + training composition and you have moderate competency in raiding, you should win 95% of the time.
