Supercell is pretty clever with their matchmaking as they've said.
I imagine the algorithm compares walls to walls, ths to ths, heroes to heroes, and etc.
So, for example, if one clan has a 'wall value' of 70 (out of 100), defenses ranked 50 (out of 100), heroes ranked 30 (of 100), and townhalls ranked 8 (out of 10).
They won't face townhalls ranked 9/10, defenses 70/100, heroes 50/100, and walls 10/100. That just wouldn't make sense. Walls will not negatively effect the matchmaking algorithm as much as OP believes.
They'll just face clans that have near equal wall levels with all other things held equal.
