What is the point of trophy pushing?

Better question: what is the point in farming?
it is just a game, it has no further use, it (probably) will not get you a job, same goes for pushing, has no use, but some love to do it, some love to farm, some do both.

Im guessing since you are just getting around to your first star on league all star youre still relatively low level. Once you get higher level and youve done nothing but hit storages and collectors, youre gonna want to mix things up and go for the thrill of chasing cups. It really is a good mix up and after a tough push, farming is far more enjoyable.

because you get a gem reward at 2600 and 3200 as well

Aside from the gems... The badge and glory.

Just FYI, playing at Champion isn't nearly as much fun as farming Masters, IMO
