TH10 upgrade due to Clan Wars?

OK, so I've been contemplating something the last couple days.
Background on my base:
I'm all about maxing my base for TH9 before going to TH10 and that's what the plan has been all along. I'm sitting good on walls with full lego walls and 17 lava's (and climbing), but my defenses are still about 60 days out from maxed defenses.

I am mostly maxed in the lab with exception of golem's, pekka's, and jump spell (never use).

My farming strategy is BAM, or BARCH exclusively and I've got maxed troops for that and it won't change from TH9 to TH10.

So, my thought is with Clan Wars coming this week (fingers crossed) that I want to maximize my defensive strength as much as possible in the coming weeks. I am thinking about bumping to TH10 and get 2 inferno's and another X-Bow and be far stronger defensively than I would be staying at TH9 and fully maxing my defenses over the next 2 months. Offensively the addition freeze spell and the extra spell slot would make my offensive attack much stronger as well.

I'm a farmer at heart and am always waiting on builders with plenty of loot to spare (hence the walls), so I'm not concerned at all about the loot penalty of going to TH10. I'm not super preemie by any means so I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger and going to TH10 early for the defensive buff.

I haven't fully committed yet, but I'm curious what you guys think in the context of Clan Wars. Obviously outside of Clan Wars and just farming the answer is to wait, but Clan Wars has me rethinking things.

What do you guys think and is anyone else thinking of bumping up a little early?

Do it! The IT and xbow is huge for defense and the extras spells are as well.

The match making will also be determined by your TH level. You're sitting pretty with legos as a TH9, I'd suggest maxing your defenses before going to TH10.

as a new TH10 it'll be nearly a month before you have the new X Bow to a decent level, the infernos built, spell fact/lab upgraded, and your new army camps. During that time you' be facing TH10a with legos and infernos. So make the most out of clan wars before going to TH10.

But it will take into account that those things are not up to snuff yet. Simply upping the TH wont automatically make it loads more difficult.

That's the wildcard in this discussion. I know that TH level is a factor, but so are defenses and walls. Meaning at TH9 with full lego walls, I would likely get paired up with a TH10 anyways if he had max IT/Xbow and skull walls for example.

It takes your average defense level, who's to say he won't run into a bunch of TH10s with 1-2 defense buildings weaker than his, yet they have infernos? Upgrading the TH could make CW a lot tougher.

Just like the other algorithms in the game they will remain secret. Hopefully it wont take long to reverse engineer them and find what importance each upgrade has.

Infernos are so much more effective then any other d. Not having them will be a huge disadvantage, especially if they take your walls into account as high level walls don't really help much on defense against cup hunting troops

It's not a 1vs1, it's a 30+ vs 30+. If he's uncomfortable against a base, his clan mate will deal with that instead of him. If the opposing clan has more th10, he'll have to attack a th10 either way.

I understand this, I'm speaking from a strategy stand point. If everyone that was 1/2 way through TH9 had the same idea and made the jump to Th10 they'd be at a big disadvantage against other th10s with infernos.

It's not only the townhall that counts though, it's the entire base. So yeah, jumping to th10 or not is not the only decisive factor of whether or not he will face a th10. I also think the inferno tower will be weighted much more than the rest of the defense buildings.
So if he's a new th10, he will either face with a very weak th10 with infernos, or a strong th9 of his level. Either way, he has the right to choose whoom he'll attack.

I had similar thoughts to you. But look at the effects of upgrading early in the long term! Max it out.

But the point is that he has great walls. It all depends on how much walls are weighed in the base strength. If it's a lot, (and let's say he's a 1 man clan hypothetically ) he might get paired up with a TH10 with maxed infernos, but lvl7 walls.

But at this point it's all still speculation. We'll find out once the update arrives.

Your AD need work bro. Level four AD is childs play. My TH6 has a Level 4 Air Defense:rolleyes: You have to upgrade your AD, Mortars, and Archer Towers before moving up. They are currently really nooby if you plan on keeping them the same Level for TH10. Seems to me that you rushed to TH9 as well as some of your buildings aren't even maxed for TH8 (namely the AD and AT). I suggest working on your base a bit more before moving up. Good luck bud:cool:

I personally think Clan Wars favors offense over defense.

A player who rushes to TH10 and upgrades all of his offense (troops, camps, barracks, spells) is a good person to have in your clan regardless of his defense. In fact, you would rather he have just enough defense to repel an attack or two but not so much that he causes the average strength of the clan to be any higher than it needs to be.

A TH10 with max offense and max IT, X Bow, WT, Mortar would be formidable no matter how bad the rest of his defenses are.

get the mortars to lvl 7, archer towers to lvl 10, teslas and air defs to lvl 6, get the inner core to lvl 10 walls and the AQ to at least lvl 10 if it isn't already, then move on

stay th 9 max it i hear its far to hard to farm at th 10

lol, good for you on your LVL 6 AD. I do agree that they need an upgrade, but prior to Clan Wars it was a very low priority item for a farmer. One fun thing about Clan Wars is it really changes our perspective on everything. AD is absolutely worthless in the farming ranges because I can count on 1 hand the times I've been all out air attacked. So, I ranked AD almost dead last on my upgrade schedule.
However, with clan wars, the importance is almost completely inverted. AD is one of the highest priorities because of the all out attack nature of Balloon/Minions and Dragons which I'm sure will be very common strategies.

As for mortars, they're pretty much worthless with anything other than Tier 1 troops so I'm not too concerned about them. AD is a top priority, so my next 4 builders are going to be all on AD to just finish them out. I'd be at 2 x lvl 7 & 2 x lvl 6 AD by the time TH10 finished.

I did rush TH9 because I ran out of walls to build at TH8. So, I was forced to either stop farming and just wait on my builders for three months or push to TH9 and keep farming for awesome walls. I think I chose the right path because I can farm way more gold per hour at TH9 and I finished my lego walls in the time it would have taken me to max TH8. ;-) With a farming base, I rarely get attacked outside of TH snipes, so defenses are much less important in that context.

Will you do better in clan wars as a th 10 than as a th 9? Absolutely, at least after the first few weeks or so. Will your clan do better? Maybe (though probably not during that transition period), but it'll really vary from war to war. Honestly, you're probably not going to make all that much of a difference, so your decision should really be based on your gameplay outside clan wars. And unless you really want a level 6 cc, I don't think there's any compelling reason to change your original decision.

I hear this a lot as well, but from what I can tell I don't think it's really going to be that much different. I farm in Gold I/Crystal III already at TH9 and 9 out of 10 attacks the last week are against TH9/TH10 bases. So, essentially my farming loot would be relatively unchanged. Sure, I'd lose TH8's but that's about it.

No question, it would be a little less but I heard that at TH7, TH8, and TH9 and I was always able to farm more/faster at the higher level than at the lower level. If you look at my Gold Grab of almost 700M I can say with confidence that I'm not too worried about farming. :)

I agree completely, and we'll have to wait and see. For me I'm very curious how each of the 4 matchmaking criteria are weighed.


For instance, my clan is made of 95% TH9 players. So you'd assume we'd go to war against more Th9 clans than TH10. However our clan loves walls and heros. Although were all TH9, almost all have maxed defenses and 95% have full legos, and quite a few are working on lavas. Also our clans average hero level is probably right around 18-20. So I'm curious if we'll get matched evenly against other clans full of tough Th9s, or if we'll find our average opponent to be a TH10.

I will strongly suggest maxing out your base first

I'm moving up to th10 currently (halfway done with upgrAde already) with 50% legos, 50% skulls, but all D maxed. I think the extra 20 camp space, freeze, IT's, xbow, etc. outweighs me hanging around at th9 for months to do walls. Plus loot isnt bad for th10, many th10s are even more successful looting than I at th9. I'd recommend maxing some your other defences though before you move up.

Depends on how much those walls count for.



If upgrading got you pitted against other Th10 sporting discos, I'd say no way.

But....

If you get pitted against premature Th10 players with duel discos.... well then your at a disadvantage because those discos are a huge asset while defending.



My recommendation is to wait and see how the matchmaking system sizes you up. Hopefully it doesn't put allot of stock into walls - for you

I just finished lvl 8 walls and have all defense maxed except 2 AT that are lvl 10. I have 9 days left on my TH upgrade and have everything done in the lab except lvl 4 valks and lvl 4 golems.

Why did you get full Legos before maxed defenses? Seems weird to have lvl 9 walls and mostly th8 lvl defenses.

It's not that uncommon. If you have L8 walls as a TH8 and become a Th9 simply farming your storages full each time a builder frees up you can get lego walls done pretty quickly.

You must have really high standards. I did a trophy push to Masters last week and my defenses were stronger than 90% of the TH10's I saw on the way up there. So, if I would be super premie at 45 days out from max I'd hate to know what you think of the other guys. :)

Just giving you a hard time. I have a full spreadsheet with my upgrades and I have exactly 63.8 calendars days from today to fully maxed TH9 including air mines, and all bombs. 100% of everything. So, if I were to do it on schedule I'd be pushing the upgrade in 48.8 days so we're not talking cataclysmic preemieness here. I also plan to have full lava's in the core within 2 weeks so that will be done as well.

Obviously upgrades are important and in the context of farming there's really no reason to upgrade early because of the loot penalty. But with Clan Wars, I"m looking at this in a completely different context of making my base as strong as possible as quickly as possible so I'll try to explain my thought process a little more.
Here's my two options:
(Option 1) Stay the Course
In 53 days I will be clicking TH10 with mostly maxed TH9 defenses and finishing those at 68 days right when I ding TH10. So, I'll be at maxed TH9 defenses as a fresh TH10 in ~54 Days. No IT, 2 lvl 3 Xbows and no offensive advantage for Clan Wars.

(Option 2) Hit TH10 upgrade now
In 15 days when TH10 finishes I'll have 15 more days of upgrades on TH9 defenses (primarily AD). I'll kick off 2x IT, & 2 X-bow upgrades within one or two days as well as spell factory upgrade. Focusing all 5 builders on IT and X-Bow upgrades from that point I'd have 2 maxed x-bows in 29 days (from today), 2 x maxed IT's 46 days (from today), and 3rd maxed x-bow in 65 days (from today).
Offensively, I'd be at about 55 days out on the camps and have use of the spell factory within 20 days (from today).

So, comparing the two I feel I'd be MUCH stronger defensively and noticeably stronger on offense in a significantly shorter amount of time by upgrading to TH10 now. The fully upgraded TH9 defenses are nothing compared to 3 maxed X-Bows and 2 maxed IT's IMHO.
Obviously going up to TH10 with IT's and 3 X-bows will have an effect on my "base strength" score, but I feel my base score already matches up with many TH10's that are out there that do have IT's, spell factories and 240 troops.

I know there's probably no right or wrong answer on this, but I think it's kind of interesting because it brings a whole new dynamic to the "when to upgrade" discussion now.

I've had 5 builders since I started playing and they've been going non-stop since I started (last August I think). Problem is I like to farm and always have a ton of extra gold. So, I simply farm until my storages are full, dump all extra gold in walls when a builder frees up and start him on the next upgrade.
So, I'm not putting my walls ahead of defenses, they're just where the extra gold goes.

I had a bunch of upgrades left at TH8, but finished all my skull walls very early. So, I chose to premie TH9 to keep farming more walls because defenses aren't all that important as a hard core farmer.

Even now, I play for a few hours each night until my gold is maxed at 8M. Then I wait for the next builder to finish and dump it towards two lava walls and farm whatever else I need in addition to the 2M Gold left and start the next upgrade an hour or so later. I've been averaging about two lava walls per day the last week or so while keeping 5 builders busy. I even focused on all my expensive upgrades first because I had so much extra gold. Mostly cheaper upgrades left now.

Yeah same, i'm very curious about the matchmaking as well, but i doubt that it'll be as perfect as SC makes it sound. There's a finite number of clans, and to find 2 identical clans (or very closely matched in term of strength) within a few minutes is extremely difficult. So yeah, there'll be up and down. Not to mention the troops strength counts as well, so it'll be a bigger mess. My guess is that if your clan mostly consists of strong th9, you will be matched against a clan with a mixture of th8, 9 and 10 (or a mixture of weak th9 to mid-th10); so that there's still a balance somewhere (something like a weight average of base strength).

The good thing is that you will get more bonus loot depending on the level of base that you attack, I suppose if somehow you're up against a stronger base than yours, you'll get more bonus (if your clan wins the war that is).

lol, because I don't have 10 builders. I can only upgrade defenses as fast as 5 builders can do upgrades. :)

The answer is obviously no because hopefully (fingers crossed) by the time Clan Wars comes out your upgrade will only be 2 - 3 days in unless you gem it.

dude. why are you maxing your walls before defense? LOL

i suggest waiting till after the update to see what kind of clans you get matched up against and see if you do need the extra stuff or not.
