I have decided to write a guide to help others to get to higher leagues. This will also document what I have gone through and to answer many of the same questions that people have been asking me in global and clan chat since I got to champion league with townhall 7 a few days ago.

Many people have expressed disappointment why I should stop pushing as TH8 as they feel the sky is the limit. I just don't see any more point to it as I have reached my goal of over 4000 cups without ever spending one gem on boost and buying shields. What's the point of pushing more at the expense of not progressing my game further? Moreover, since going to TH9 about 11 days from my record I have found a new resurgence and excitement to the game.
Granted I could have pushed past 4017 even gem free if I just stuck to another month or more of hard pushing but whats the point? Records are to be broken eventually. I could have just as easily bought 2 back to back shields (1 & 2 day) and most likely got to 4050+ cups for TH8 (in less than an additional 3 1/2 days total from reaching 4017) but that would have in my mind tainted my gem free streak to date. Regardless, I may have even possibly push past 4100 gem free if I devote another 2-3 months pushing. So as a cautionary tale for all low level pushers I would strongly suggest if you want to push to champs then go for it but as someone who has gone to extremes for virtual cups its better to just collect your bonus gem achievements and move on with the progress of your game and townhall. You are naive to believe you are the best and will set a new permanent record as with time all records will fall.
Eventually when my TH8 record will be surpassed I will applaud whomever has achieved such a feat even if they gem as it is a monumental achievement that requires a lot of sacrifice in time and sadly even at a cost to some relationships. On that note, I would like to express my gratitude for having the most patient/understanding gf having to deal with me at times putting a priority on this game vs spending more time with her.....

Now without further delay here is my pushing guide, I hope it serves you well....

Firstly, there is no one path to high leagues. There are many troop/army compositions and every player brings along a certain skill set when it comes to raiding. Use the forum to research what may be best for you at your townhall.

Anyone can get these achievements if you gem. Refilling gold storages is key to be able to find bases that increase the odds of a successful raid.

The real challenge is doing it gem free as it requires more planning and execution.


Here are the basics to increase the likelihood of success:

- Max your army camps. The more troops you can bring to war will ensure a greater degree of success if you need to overcome some pesky defenses, traps, clan castle troops, heroes and troop deployment mistakes on your part
- Max or near max your barracks. Being able to bring the best troops to war and more importantly being able to make them in a short amount of time will be key to your success. Also, max level barracks will help you to bank more elixir and keep it out of the hands of your rivals when you queue up your most expensive troops before you log off.
- Laboratory and spell factory upgrades are important as well. Focus on what troops you will use most and the best spells to complement your troops.
- Defenses or max defenses isn't as important as most will think. In fact, walls or defensive buildings will make little to no impact on your push unless you are a townhall 10 with infernos. Virtually all bases from master 3 and up are townhall 10s and most have defenses upgraded significantly.
- Max or near max your collectors with more emphasis on gold mines. Let the collectors do their job 24/7. Investment in these always pays off sooner than later and will be key especially in high league pushing for townhall 8 and below not having max level troops.
- Stop doing single player campaign immediately. Leave those stages alone. They may come in handy if you are super low on resources in high leagues for non gemmers as they will be an additional source for gold or elixir on top of your collectors.
- Max your storages period. Make sure your storages are completely full before attempting a high level push.
- Devote extended stretches of time for uninterrupted raiding. The longer you can play the greater the chance to gain more trophies and offset loses. Playing for 30 minutes then taking a 30 minute break and repeating many times over is a recipe for failure and at best counterproductive as regular raids by rivals or a possible expensive revenge will be in essence a slow crawl up or more likely one step forward, 2 steps back trophy wise.
Of course exceptions will exist for super strong bases that can actually win defenses and a possible tactic is to lose cups in order to revenge for more. However, there is usually diminishing returns there as any decent trophy pusher will be in a higher trophy range before a revenge can be executed. In this situation, you will most likely gain less trophies that you lost in the first place. So when it comes to revenge raids it is actually something best served not cold as time is of the essence.
- Next button. This is your friend and best ally in order to push high. If you are unsure of a successful raid just press next. However, if your gold reserves are getting low you need to be more decisive and commit to a decent target sooner than later or else you need to wait for your gold collectors to produce more or have to resort to raiding in single player campaign.
- Leave your townhall fully exposed. Move your townhall ideally as far away from your base as possible. Do not put any traps nearby or hidden teslas as it will serve to just antagonize your rival more and increase the likelihood that once they take out or snipe your townhall they will move on to the rest of your base. Also townhalls just outside of your base and within range of your defenses (aka partially exposed townhall) should be avoided as your rival will deploy more troops to take out your townhall and since they are already at your doorstep they might as well go in for the rest. I understand this is a somewhat controversial topic but from personal experience this is the ideal setup for high league pushing. I have countless attacks from players that just one star my base (just sniping the fully exposed townhall) and ending the battle even in situations they can easily 3 star and gain many more trophies.
- Fully upgrade your clan castle. Bring maximum troops to war. Ideally join an active clan with members that will help with your push and donate max or near max level troops.
- Max or near max your heroes. For those townhall 7 and higher this is an extra tool in your weapons arsenal and more often than not can be a tide turner when in high league play. There will be those TH6 and below that can make it to master or champion league without heroes but the majority of players aiming for these achievements will be townhall 7 and above.
- Cheap boosts. A great time to push is during cheap 1 gem boost periods. Its always better to be able to battle more often versus waiting for spell factory, army camps to fill and/or resources to produce.
- Be in an active clan that goes to war often as this can be an important source of gold to push for the non gemmers

Pushing strategies:
1. All out attacks. Go for 2 or 3 star attacks. Pick up as many points as possible especially if its a high total cups raid (say 20 cups or higher for 3 star raids).
2. Sniping townhalls. Taking out a townhall is a guarantee 1 star or about 1/3 of the total points available to earn from a raid.
3. Hybrid approach. A combination of 1/2 depending on how easy an opponents base is.
4. Revenge raids. Always try a revenge if the rival's base will be a guarantee 1 star. Also, the tactic of losing on purpose and breaking shield in order to revenge for more cups. This is not recommended for those without a strong offense.

From personal experience sniping townhalls is the most efficient means for trophy pushing to high leagues. Without committing all your troops in a raid will mean being able to more or less start another raid right after the previous one just ended. Having to wait anywhere from 30-90 minutes to be able to raid can be a little too much for most.

When doing an all out attack or employing a hybrid approach you can still snipe while the majority of your troops are still being created. This should be approached cautiously especially in higher league play as you can be setting yourself with a loss if a trap or defense building pops up, etc.
Sometimes its prudent to wait for your army to fully replenish before attempting another raid especially if you are low on gold or elixir. Let your collectors work longer ensure you are at full strength to engage a rival.


A little more background about myself. I started playing clash back on August 21, 2013 or thereabouts.

Got to crystal 3 league in early September with townhall 5.

Got to master 3 league on Nov 13, 2013 with townhall 6 with level 3 troops and never any lvl 5 or higher troops in clan castle as my clan at that time did not donate high troops. Troop composition as I recall at that time was about 6-10 giants, 4 or so wall breakers, a few goblins/barbs (combined 5 or so), rest archers with usually giants or archers in clan castle. Typically I would search for fully exposed townhall and drop an archer at the farthest distance possible
away from the base and townhall in order to test for traps or teslas. If a hero is nearby deploy the archer at the farthest possible distance from hero and also be aware of the relative position of a clan castle. If nothing pops up and your archer is engaging the townhall try to drop 3-4 more (perhaps more if its a higher level townhall) ideally in as tight a configuration as possible from your first archer. Its critical to drop them on top of each other in order to
lessen the chance of triggering traps, teslas or get the attention of clan castle troops and/or heroes.
If teslas are triggered and depending on their level continue to drop more archers in a tight configuration and be prepared to send in some giants to act as shields for your archers. Maxed or near maxed teslas (google/visit Clash of Clans Wiki for photos) will require unleashing giants ideally one at a time in order to avoid spring traps and to get the attention of teslas for instance. I would typically deploy my goblins/barbs to trigger spring traps or bombs
before sending in the giants. Just be aware that with this technique it may trigger more teslas and eventually get the attention of clan castle troops and heroes so it is imperative for your archers to take out the townhall as quick as possible. So generally following this format I was able to get to master league with limited offense.

Got to townhall 7 thereafter and around that time started APOTHEOSIS clan shortly.

The rest is a bit of a blur but I made 2 attempts to get to champion league as a townhall 7. The first time was without a maxed base. There were many raids and a higher frequency of all out attacks compared to my most recent push. My clan mates can attest to more than a few raids close to 50% but just short and a number over but only one or two 3 star attacks on some other high pushing townhall 7 and 8 players. I would search for bases with at least one air defense upgrading and use lightning to take out an adjacent air defense and funnel dragons towards the townhall in middle of base. The barb king was essential in all these types of raids to ensure I take out periphery buildings around the outside of where I intend to deploy my dragons in order to avoid the dreaded dragons going around the outside of the base vs making a beeline to the townhall. So this first push was for a very extended period of time lasting several months and not making much headway until the eve of the dreaded update that introduced multi target infernos which ended my best push run at that time to 2984 cups.

Since that time I have maxed my base and was always in master league 3 or 2 except for a two week period or so farming to max my base.

With the announcement that a townhall 5 recently made it to champion league I decided to make a final attempt to push to champion to coincide with my clan's second ever push. I figured if a townhall 5 with limited weak troops can make it why can't I? The biggest difference would be my stronger troops and their ability to most likley use gems to refill storages.

My primary troop composition is 9 lvl 2 dragons and 10 lvl 2 minions with a level 2/3 dragon usually in my clan castle which hasn't changed since my first champion push attempt. I also used 3x lightning and avoided rage as most bases in master league are too large for rage to work properly. In preparation for this push I bought all decorations in order to sell if I needed the gold to push further. I also farmed so that all my storages were full for the push. This is very important. I also limited risky raids with townhall in the middle of a base to a minimum keeping in mind that a TH5 would never even come close to that feat.
The hardest part of the push was to break 3000 trophies. From what I recall it took over 3 hours to find a 2 star raid that got me to pass this mark into master 1 territory. Since getting over this mark I now was within the radar of champions being able to attack me. The great part of champions attacking a lower league is that on average I can lose anywhere from 1-13 cups vs the typical 4-34 non revenge raid. I had a very fortunate run in which 5 attackers
took only 14 cups; 3 of which were for 1 cup loss only. So in a period of slightly over two weeks I got to 3120 cups a few days ago. I was lucky finding my first TH7 in master 1 (around 2990 cups) just a day prior which I 3 star and helped to replenish my gold reserves. When we just had the latest server update is where I got my final impetus to push for champion league. I started it off 100% a pesky premmie TH10 that is always shielded or online.
Lets take a moment here to address the issue of revenge raids right after a server update. Folks I can tell you from personal experience it is the best time to revenge.
So I went overboard and used all my troops to 3 star Ragnu5 for 22 cups. Then a string of 1 star townhall snipes got me to 3198 cups and I was seriously contemplating buying a shield for the first time to ensure I get to champion league as I was about to get kicked off. Fortunately I resisted temptation and tatsmcgee007 from ScrewTheMoose clan 100% my base for only 2 star. The rest is history. I have now managed to push to 3322 trophies without spending any gems for personal TH7 best effort. I did not take advantage of the one gem boost during the Christmas holidays and also now.

As of April 29 I am now a new townhall 8 and pushed to new personal best 3355 with townhall 7 troops. Lvl 3 dragons will still take some time and my current objective is to get barb king to lvl 10 and then hogs to lvl 4.

So hopefully this answers many of the questions people have about how I got to champion league and perhaps it will help you as well.

On a side note, people have asked if I have used some program which allows me to not get attacked. I am not aware of such things and do not endorse h@cking of any kind. It cheapens the gaming experience and whatever sense of accomplishment is all thrown away.
I don't have someone else play my account when I am offline.
I don't gem for now. All my gems come from achievements and removing obstacles. I currently have 5 builders and still have not redeemed my 2000 gems for reaching champion league. Moreover, I fully support gemmers as they make possible for me and many more to play this game for free.

PS....Like to give a shout out to witelightingHWD for spotlighting APOTHEOSIS clans in his Youtube channel MYSTLC7. I highly recommend you check out his channel as he was the former world record holder for townhall 9 and is very proficient with balloonian raids.

NOTE: Some of the troops I use have changed and new content has been added since this initial post. If you have the time do read in its entirety as there are some additional points that are important to consider not addressed above.

I skimmed your guide and I agree with sniping being the most efficient means to champ (unless you're th10 or have max hogs/loonions). Even with those max troops you're restricted by spawn time.

I sniped to m1 whilst getting 2stars half the time. Using a handful of giants with barch. started using a golem with less giants after m2 just so traps would be useless. Some people really load up on traps around their th for whatever reason... spring traps can be devestating if giants hit them before barbs , when there's an inferno guarding the th.

Good stuff man, props. This will prob be moved to the strategy subforum, which I don't check that often, so I'm glad I saw it here.

My one fellow coleader Wuxia wrote a very in depth guide to masters for low-mid lvl players that you might find interesting to reflect upon. Found on our website in my signature.

I wouldve kept going sniping after m1 but that's when I fell below 1.5mil gold. I attempted barching for 50%s after that and won 5/7 attempts. But I was satisfied at m1 and will save champs for another push. I don't like pushing for more than a week, which is most likely required for all seeking champs, unless very lucky.

Most important thing is to stockpile gold prepush and Never attack a th where you might lose. Be 100% sure or press next.

Good job but you never really elaborated on defence. Shoulda talked about how th 9 has little chance in masters, so you need to trick the enemy rather than trying to overpower them. You can do so by making black hole bases, using well placed traps, etc

Defense is pointless unless you have infernos. Always assume you'll need more trophs when online than you could possibly lose while offline.

I mentioned briefly that defenses are pretty useless for TH9 and below especially in high league play as the vast majority of bases are TH10s. Through 1000s of searches I have come across some very impressive TH9 bases that are pretty maxed and ones that I would definitely avoid vs a premmie TH10.

By the way, I just update my base to hopefully increase the likelihood of more 1 star raids.

Maybe it is different for you, but I clearly find better and worse times to raid for trophies as a low level TH in Crystal/Masters although my time is quite limited during the week due to full time job.

Some say best time to raid is when all the North American players are sleeping but I haven't seen a big difference either way.

Basically I use minions to snipe or trigger a tesla or more. If that happens then I drop a dragon or two depending on what tesla level and how many pop up. Then I send in rest of minions to clean up as the dragons would be meat shields for them.

These days I only go all out attacks on premmie TH10 or TH9 with one air defense upgrading and if xbows seems to be lower level and ideally set to ground. There relative placement will dictate whether I attack or not.

But if its a little risky for just a 2 cup gain and 30-40 cup loss and there isn't much gold to raid I probably will pass.

Been using more dragons only if I snipe the townhall and if storages are within reach.

The main emphasis is to replenish gold reserves as much as possible. Elixir and dark are not too big an issue as 120k and 800 dark bonus is more than enough to fill my storages in 1-2 raids.

Gold is key.

On that note, with respect to clan wars I think we will see a lot more snipers pushing the envelope as there will be a new batch of players that can sustain a longer push with another source of gold coming in.

To OP- I want to start practicing the dragon/minnie idea now that my drags upgraded to lvl 2 today but booooy am I cautious to start trying in M3 LOL (BTW those revenges are from C2 people I was farming before pushing). I'm going to reread your ideas though since they are well written and pretty clear. I by no means consider myself good at attacking because have only been playing for 3 months and may curb a bit of the time spent.

To poster I am responding- I am actually in the12thman right now around 2570 trophies (invite only, I'll be the top player with our clan around maybe 17K trophies or so) coming down from pushing to M2 on Sunday. The revenge attacks have been BRUTAL last couple days LOL. Currently, I'm finding enough gold in M3 to keep upgrading stuff (started tesla upgrade today along with a few more walls) and trying to hang on. Champion seems soooo far away from here and eevn at 2800 seemed pretty darn far away too.

One other thing I've noticed, when logging off in Masters it seems I don't get raided right away compared to when I was in Crystal. Not sure why but the down side is that it allows those pesky C2 players to hit me hard revenging. I kinda wish those Masters players would hit me to reduce the trophy damage.

That's insance dude. Last push I was pretty sure I saw only one townhall outside for two weeks. And I am able to stay online for 6 hour sessions and keep searching and searching.

Just started townhall 8 upgrade so bye to 7 soon

Also, anyone looking for a clan war focused team and can consistently 2-3 your own townhall level or higher and minimum TH8 feel free to join us. Please join Apotheosis 2 or 3 first and participate in one war. As of May 1st main clan has a perfect 8-0 clan war record.

Here is my best push so far for TH7. I can definitely go higher but with clan wars like to progress my base further. I don't see any point pushing any further.

At high 3200s I've now experienced the cloud search screen for longer periods and at times it has taken over a minute for a match. I can see why the elite players complain so much about having to wait. At times I wonder if my internet connection is having some issues.

Thank you so much I got linked to this by Mystlc7. This was a great guide im th8 at the moment and I pushed to masters for the achievement a week ago. I got to mid-crystal 2 then fell short. Got revenged for 55 and 31 trophies then was discouraged. So I dropped back down giving up. But after reading this guide its helped me decide to make the push again. I was just thinking that it would be better to dump all but a mil into my lvl 9 walls as I go, but ??? Anyone have an answer?

at th7/8 you will lose all of your defences, cuz everyone has maxed troops.
even if your maxed, it's just not strong enough

Having lvl 3 dragons is making a little easier to farm in champions and slowly getting my barb king to lvl 10. Just finished lvl 8 and hopefully can start lvl 9 shortly.

After barb king is at lvl 10 will push for lvl 4 hogs eventually and see how they will help push in champs.

The amount of Gold you need searching for a Raid in Champions is not that much. The best way to reduce the amount of gold you spend searching is being able to broaden the amount of bases you can attack with BARCH, just like how I did myself. I adapted to learn to attack Maxed TH10 Anti-hog bases which is generally something that I tended to stay away, but since there a very common and very similar bases up past 2900s, the ability to attack more bases and learn to attack new bases will help you instrumentally.

Nice write up! im currently a th8. Maxed every single building except 1 level 5 tesla. I also need to get my BK from 8 to 10. and 110 pesky level 7 walls. Anywho ive been searching for motivation to try and hit champ before i hit that th 9 upgrade and i found this write up to be very informative and inspirational. Nice to see a non gemmer work his butt off! (nothing against gemmers lol ive gemmed a few times myself.) But yea man good luck on all your future goals with COC!!

I've never been on a trophy push before, but caught billwinkiesbear's idea to form a temporary clan to push to champs with barch only (starting this monday).

3322 is my best push effort for TH7. But technically it was 3255 before my lvl 3 dragons were complete but unfortunately I don't have a photo of that.

This is a maxed (except for a few walls) TH9 I raided with townhall in core. Although the majority of my push are snipes of fully or partially exposed townhalls, I do attack TH9s in core whenever I can.

Here is the result of the raid. Fortunate since my King was being upgraded and my troops were not all maxed.

WHAT TROOPS DO YOU USE?
I am still experimenting with troops as I am slowly maxing troops and Laboratory research is super slow especially I don't gem.
At present I use 9 lvl 3 dragons, 10 lvl 3 minions and typically 5 lvl 4 hogs in cc. Sometimes you will see a lot more minions in my army camps because since I don't gem I need to go with quicker troops considering dragons do take a long time to cook.
As I unlock higher level troops I will be experimenting with other options like more hogs, lvl 2 golems, etc.

WHAT ARE YOU UPGRADING THESE DAYS?
I am concentrating on maxing dark elixir troops. Barb King level 10 didn't take too long and I have 30 hours left on minions lvl 4. I have about 66k dark elixir now so lvl 3 and 4 hogs are next.
Unfortunately I can only hold 80k dark for TH8 so will try to manage dark as best as possible without it going to waste too much as long research times will surely exceed my cap.
After lvl 4 hogs which is primarily for war I will do lvl 2 golem and valkyrie last.

As gold is important for nexting i probably won't be upgrading defensive buildings any further and that includes walls.

HOW LONG DO YOU ATTACK/HOW MANY DO YOU ATTACK?
Typically if I have the time i try to get a full 6 hours of raiding. The amount of raids I can do is limited to how many troops I commit to a raid. At best I can get 4 full attacks in one sitting as it takes 1 hr 30 min for spells to complete. Unfortunately, this is usually the bottle neck for my attacks as Supercell has yet to allow queuing of spells.
However, I do at times raid without king, spells or max number of troops but it is very risky and one simple mistake will prove costly as most 1 star raids are averaging 1-3 stars and a lost is almost always north of 30 plus cups.

DO YOU GET REVENGED?
I don't recall being revenged since I made it to Champs in early April this year. The instant I log off I get raided.

DO YOU USE ANYTHING TO HELP YOU STAY ONLINE OR AVOID BEING RAIDED?
No. I detest h@ckers and che@ting of any kind. There have been alleged che@ters that have tried to join APOTHEOSIS clans some north of 3200 cups but we don't even consider them. Also, if you ghost in wars don't bother joining our clans.

YOU ARE A FREE PLAYER BUT WHY NOT USE THE FREE GEMS TO BUY SHIELDS?
I am a purists. I have never spent a gem other than the free ones from removing obstacles and achievements in order to get all builders for free. I know it would be super easy to just buy a shield when I reach my personal best score to extend it indefinitely. Trust me I have had many opportunities to do it especially earlier today when I got to 3403 cups for my best push to date.
As I have said anyone can get to champs by gemming collectors, barracks, refilling storages, etc. But not many can do it completely gem free. This means no gemming even during 1 gem boosts. Gem free pushing requires strict gold conservation and focused raiding.

WILL YOU EVER USE YOUR FREE GEMS?
Never say never. If and when I do it will most likely be during a one gem boost period. But if I do I will post here first.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I like to have our 5 clans become more focused on getting eventually to a top 200 clan world wide. We are making strides towards achieving this goal.
The main reason I push is to bring more recognition and awareness of our clans. This will help for recruiting and hopefully propel a clan to top ranking. Our last push we achieved 458 world ranking and just shy of 26000 clan points.

CAN I SPEAK WITH YOU IN YOUR CLAN?
I get countless requests to accept members into main clan or any of our clans when I visit, etc. I am not being rude but the amount of request is ridiculous at times. Hence, the best way to talk to me is to join APOTHEOSIS 2,3,4 OR 5 and stay. We are not kind to hoppers. Why are you posting defense logs?
To show I am not using any mods or h@cks unlike what others in similar cups range are allegedly doing. As well, to show I am not buying shields. TH8 and below pushing to champs or high cups should post continuous defense logs to put to rest any allegations of che@ting. Moreover, posting defense logs is also a way to say thanks to all those that 1 star snipe my exposed townhall.

Why don't you post attack log?
I prefer not to spam this thread with endless pages of 1 star snipes and the occasional 2 star snipes. If there is a notable attack with a centralized townhall I will post here eventually. I have some clan mates who can video record and I hopefully can post some videos of attacks in the future.

Why are your storages outside your base?

If my storages are within my base there is a good chance I would be 3 starred.

Can I join main clan and go to war with you?
Please join APOTHEOSIS 2,3,4 or 5 and fight a war or two with them first. We are looking for the best attackers for war. Hog raids are encouraged.

How old are you?
My typical response.....I am not a teenager or middle age. Age is irrelevant, maturity counts.
We have teenage elders and our clan does not have any age restrictions. Our only rule is no swearing.

Can I add you to Game Center?
For privacy reasons I don't do GC. I have played other games in which people have h@cked emails and threatened people's safety, etc. Being in a previous top ten team worldwide does bring out the worse in some people. As such, privacy is paramount and I encourage members to be careful sharing too much personal info online.

Are you going to TH9 soon?
Not planning to anytime soon. Lots to upgrade for TH8. If I do go to TH9 it will be on an alternative account first before Sparhawk.

How long have you been a Champion and do you plan to stay a Champ for as long as possible?
I have been in Champion league since beginning of April. I am planning to be there for a little while longer until my dark troops are maxed and perhaps a few more key troops. I will probably be going from shield to shield more often this summer so not sure how much higher I will push but from limited experience maintaining cups between 3200-3300 isn't too hard if I get a few key raids in as there are typically more higher cup offerings compared to over 3400.

How do you manage to raid often if you don't gem?
The only way to raid often without gemming in a 6 hour sitting is to primarily snipe. Sniping on average does take some considerable time nexting above 3000 cups. When I next I am pretty well aware how long I have pressed next since I was last on my base screen. If I have been nexting for over 30 min I know I can commit more troops to a snipe to target more collectors or storages including my king as queuing troops in barracks will automatically include the time I spent nexting provided I have not visited my home base screen anytime during those 30 min. This is a very important point for non gemmers. If you have been nexting for a while do not get impatient and go back to your base to chat or collect your collectors for instance as it will reset the timer for your troops in queue and also the regen time for your heroes. So say in an extreme situation you have been nexting for an hour and then go all out on an attack when you return back to your base after the attack you should have 8 dragons already waiting for you in your army camps (provided you have 4 lvl 9 barracks and had the dragons queued up) and you hero will have a substantially less amount of time to regen before it is active again. I didn't go into detail about this too much but this is an important thing to be aware of always especially if you don't gem. My only complaint is that Supercell should allow queuing of spells which is the big bottle neck for non gemmers.

Can you help me get to Champion league?
You need to be patient and persistent for TH9 and below to get to Champs. TH10 has it easier due to superior troops, more troops can be brought to battle and have infernos which can actually win defenses more readily.
Also, please read this guide in its entirety. If there is something still missing feel free to post a question here and I will try to answer to my best knowledge.

I'd like to know how you manage your resources, specifically the pink elixir. For example, a army that has 9 Lvl 3 dragons, 3 lvl 5 bolts, and 10 minions will cost 390k pink elixir plus a small amount of DE. Did you have a hard time finding bases with that much pink elixir to break even the army cost? I'm at C3 at the moment, and very few bases have this amount of pink elixir to cover the cost. My worry is if I bring 9 drags to every fight, I would eventually go broke. How do you manage that?

Thanks for this guide, I went from silver 3 to crystal 3 in 24 hours. Now I want champions as you, but I don't have dragons lvl 2 and collectors lvl 11 haha

There seems to be some confusion regarding how I raid or what I would recommend others to do.

If you can afford gems then this doesn't apply to you as you can boost whatever and instantly complete troops or spells.

Those who are non gemmers its all about management of your resources, whether its your gold reserves, available troops for war or just time to raid in general.

I don't get 2-3 star raids often. Those who think I can go all out with dragons all the time is far from the truth. I am farming in champs with lower troops at present because it is the only viable option for a non gemmer.

For those over 3000 cups and pushing to champs and don't gem this is the ideal spot to push hard. The rest of the 200 cups should come easier as I mentioned you will most likely be in the trophy range for other champs to find you and raid you typically for lower cups compared to being in sub 3000 territory.

When other champs attack you I find on average you should be losing 10 or so cups. To increase the likelihood of this happening I would recommend moving your townhall and storages to far outside corner of screen in order to invite 1 star snipes. Even if you are a TH10 and with low level defenses this is a viable strategy. However, if are a more mature TH10 I would experiment it for a week and see the difference. I would state with some confidence you will do better cups wise with townhall fully exposed even with a mature TH10 than without. At 3500 or 3600 plus cups that may be different but sub 3500 this may be a better option.

With new update and now being able to go back on 30 defenses is a good way to compare the 2 strategies. Simply add up all the cups you have lost in the last 30 defenses and divide by 30 for your average. Now move your townhall out and test it out for a week and see if the average improves.

If you are going to try this do not put teslas beside your exposed townhall or other traps, etc. This needs to be a fully exposed townhall for it to work.

Hi Sparhawk! Btw, I'm sam from the Philippines. Since I saw some videos and photos of TH 7 people go to higher leagues, I felt that I want to try it. I tried pushing up to masters league for that 1k gem for my 5th builder and it was a success. I currently have a trophy record of 2610. 5 days ago, I decided to drop my trophies back to 1200 range to farm coz I already achieved what I wanted. But since I have read this thread of yours, I started to get amazed and thrilled to try another push, this time to become a champion. Thanks to this thread, I got some ideas on how to have a successful trophy push. I am currently upgrading my dragons to lvl 2 and upgrading my barracks and gold mines. But I have 1 question. When is the right time to use dragon for raiding? Masters league?

Honestly base makes little to no difference for higher league pushing. My suggestion to best prevent excessive cups loss is to move townhall and storages to outside far corner away from traps and defenses.

New TH7 without dragons and essentially TH6 troops should stick with archers and giants. You need giants as meat shield in case teslas pop up or your troops will be under fire by mortars, etc. Alternatively you can go with giants and wizards with similar strategy. Of course, having a dragon in the clan castle does not hurt.

With the latest update I would like to stress that it is very important when raiding to zoom in on a base in order to avoid an inadvertent troop drop. However, be very careful when zooming in. Pick spots in the current rival base that has no spaces in order to zoom. Unfortunately I have lost 38 cups since the update and I imagine many others have as well.

Along similar lines sometimes its better when raiding with an ipad to just place it down and use one finger to next. Holding the ipad with 2 hands requires very careful handling or you will potentially misclick and attack a base that you shouldn't. Just in the last few days I worked back up to my personal best cups at 3470 and shortly after my sausage fingers dropped a troop and then down 38 cups. Moreover, the previous day I was fumbling with the stand at the back of the ipad case and inadvertantly mass dropped all my dragons for another 38 cups.
So in light of my recent posting of defensive losses you can easily see I am my worse enemy when it comes to pushing in champs. Definitely be cognizant with where your hands and fingers are at all times when raiding or you will be subject to a rude awakening.


I would also like to thank all the positive words of encouragement in global chat from those that have taken the time to read my guide and have mentioned it has helped them in their push. Feel free to leave feedback here or just general questions and I will try to improve this thread and update on a more frequent basis.

Just a quick question, though. How did you keep your elixir plentiful when pushing to champs? I'm currently on my quest to master's league as a th7 and I'm dropping elixir pretty quickly. Any tips for a newbie in trophy pushing?:p

Then I just farm in GOLD range but when I saw this thread its decided

If you snipe in between full on attacks your elixir and other resources will be good shape. Don't forget even while sniping to target collectors and storages whenever they are full and within reach of troops.

Guys I am so disappointed... I got to 2318 trophies... then a sequence of bad attacks caused by the fact I couldn't find an easy base to raid resulted in more than 100 trophies loss... currently at less than 2200. I don't think I can reach masters league now. I am a fully maxed th7 btw.

Why can't I find exposed town halls anymore?

You will need to resort to mass drags. Snipes won't cut it anymore. If spar can do it you can.

And what do you do between attacks? Dragons take a lot of time to train... if I log off I'll lose a more trophies than I gained.

I am confident that you can also snipe to Crystal I minimum. Never attack any TH9/10s and the only TH8 bases you should be attacking are premmies and other TH7. Just keep hitting that next until you find a farmer.

Yes you can, especially during the 1 gem boosting period. Go for it! I've sniped a few farmers on my revenge list in masters or visited them to see their TH fully exposed.

To intimidate those TH9/10s from attacking you create a base with defenses circling your storages (to act as a buffer) and create multiple 2x8 spaces to make the attacker paranoid that there might be double giant bombs there since nearly all the attacks I've attacked by are still hogs. Since switching the only TH9 attack was a BAM with lvl4 troops and the rest were TH6/7/8 snipes :) Good luck on your way to masters, as I am doing the same too.

Great time to push with one gem boost now. Gem your collectors if low but well worth it for barracks and especially for spells as that is usually the bottle neck for full attacks.

If you are low on gems and or free player as long as you gold/elixir reserves are decent I would suggest not boosting those and only barracks and spells as those resources can be earned through raiding.

But I like to preface I haven't gemmed yet, thats what I would do if were to gem;)

I did it!!!! 2600 trophies for master league and 1000 gems!!!! It took me one week from gold 3... playing something like 6 hours per day (unfortunately something like 1 hour in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 3 in the evening due to my little child :) )

Hardest part were last 100 trophies, it took me last 3 days cause I suffered some harsh revenges.

I'm glad I'll never ever have to press that next button that many times again. :)

I used the 1 gem boost for resources , even though I feel it wasn't THAT critical (storages were always full due to win bonus), and yesterday evening I spent 50 gems to boost barracks and spell factory for the last push. I got to masters by mostly sniping town halls, and occasionally the mass Dragon attack, even though it's still difficult to find a base you are 100% sure to win even with dragons.

Now I got 1785 gems, with the 200 gem achievement just a few war stars away, it looks like I'll soon get the fifth builder without spending a dime. :)

Its been long overdue....
From my last 31 continuous defenses I lost 152 cups for an average loss of under 5 cups on defense.
My biggest losses were not defenses but a failed raid and especially misclicks (3 of which which total to about 120 cups loss).

Are you gemming during the recent 1 gem boost?
No gemming yet although rather tempting as now I have 3121 gems from achievements and removing obstacles.

What troops are you using now?
I generally start my raids with 9 lvl 3 dragon, 2 lvl 4 minions, 3 lvl 4 hogs, 1 lvl 5 archer and in clan castle 1 lvl 3 dragon and 1 lvl 6 balloon and 3 lvl 5 rage spells. As I raid the number of dragons will diminish usually and the hog counts increase as they basically function as lightning spells for somewhat exposed air defenses and they do come in handy against tesla traps by townhalls.

No but apparently this seems to be not a rare arrangement in champs. One member of a top 200 clan had a very odd proposition when he joined our clan for a brief moment. He explained he plays 10 other accounts and helps his clan mates/friends to get to champs. I didn't want to get into any details what kind of arrangement specifically; was it for financial gain or just to boost clan points? Anyways I told him I did not agree with such things and want nothing to do with it. Where is the sense of any achievement getting to champs if you don't do it all by yourself? Also, potentially giving someone access to your account would be foolish.

Can I join your clan?
If you have max balloons (TH9/10) and exclusively balloonion raid or are willing to learn and am very active feel free to join. If you cup count is not high enough visit Norsk global and usually a member in main clan should be there to help. We also have 8 other clans so feel free to check out APOTHEOSIS 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and FARM. APOTHEOSIS WAR is a close clan for 10 members only.

Do you 2-3 star bases?
I use to do it more often but since over 3600 its been almost always 1 cup gain for 3 star attacks so its not worthwhile to go all out unless gold storages are full. There are also many TH9 bases with centralized townhall that in the past I would attack but with one cup gain and usually lower level storages it isn't even worthwhile to risk it as a potential loss is about 40 cups.

How do you keep your storages full?
I snipe about 90% of the time so not difficult keeping storages full if I don't go all out. Plus when I do snipe I will always target gold storages if decently full.

What are your plans for upgrades?
All dark elixir upgrades are done. Air defenses, mortars and wizard towers are fully upgraded or upgrading now. Working on archers towers next then canons. Will do teslas perhaps after but will depend on my gold reserves.
I will only upgrade to lvl 7 walls if all 4 builders are busy prior to 5th starting an upgrade. Comes down to resource management. But elixir and dark and a non issue as i have plenty. The benefits of loot bonus in champs along with rivals with fairly full storages.

When are you planning to go to TH9?
When everything is maxed perhaps except walls.

It's arguably more difficult to snipe at lower leagues because the number of lower townhall searching for snipes is
higher. You just need to do more all out attacks or make it up by playing for longer uninterrupted periods. In lower leagues there is a tradeoff, you gain more cups per attack compared to champs but you also will on average lose more on defense so in order to offset the large defensive cups losses make sure to raid more and for longer periods.
Go all out when you can to get more cups or resources. While waiting for your troops to finish snipe in between. This way you can get more attacks in during a typical session.

I think this guide will help a lot. Right now I'm a maxed TH 7, new TH 8 and I think I'm going to get golems unlocked in the db and upgrade drags to level 3 and head for Masters. If I have the time I'll try and hit Champs but I strongly doubt it now that school is starting up. But thanks for writing this guide!

I had been trying to push to masters for a couple of weeks now (half-heartedly, il admit) and this morning had given up, sick of hitting 2500 trophies just to find no more TH snipes, and lose 30-50 trophies as soon as i logged out, iv just read al of this, and fortunately had already figured most of it out by myself, the long and hard way, but now i think iv realised whats needed to get the masters, a decent clan :D Iv applied to Apotheosis 2, hopefully with you guys i can get to masters and beyond :):)

Where did you find the th 7 base and is there any way I can switch the cc with the th?

I pushed as a TH8 to 2587 (just 13 short of Master 3) and then for some reason decided to try to barch for the last 13 (actually I read on forum somewhere that 35 buildings was all you needed, so I started counting while nexting and it looked easy, first raid I got my 35 but the real number is over 40) ...then it all fell apart. My goal was Masters for the 1000 gems to get my fifth builder. I was also trying to do it between clan wars, so I only had 5 days (from Gold 1)...(we war every 6) and keep all my builders and lab busy...

I plan to try again when most of the my TH8 upgrades are done (new few weeks), I can't stand to have a free builder or idle lab. It was such hard work getting to 2587, I can't imagine getting to Champion.

My last push I was playing way too much, this time I plan to allow more time, hoping I can play in 2-3 hour increments twice a day and still get to Masters in 1-2 weeks...

One thing that was useful to me was to do a gowipe as my second attack coming off a shield, you can build your first attack (all dragons or gowipe), then cue golems and pekka while still on shield, and then do another attack immediately (without spells)...

Dude thats great, i used to be in apotheosis until you sent me to a2 for help in war but a2 was not as friendly in my opinion so i left. Apo war has less than 10 members almost all the time why? How many hours do you play a day? Why are you storing all your gems, how could they be useful later? Which rank are you in canada? You are very mature as I saw when i was in apotheosis, you said you arent teenage or mid age i guessing you are in your 30s, please just give a yes or no answer to that. Why dont you gowipe? Your th7 record has been broken by "believe" who reached something about 3800 trophies, he is now th8 with i think the same record, he used to be in the clan "savage seven" but i dont know which clan he is in now, so I was wondering if anyone of you know.
