I do much the same with my feed mills and usually have plenty of feed.
Also buy jam IF I ever see it for sale. My jam maker never stops - it does not take long to get it mastered either:):)

Oh I would never waste my jam on my boat, I send those boats off empty and :p!
i do however use them on my truck orders if the xp is as high enough
Sigh... I'm a jam hoarder! LOL
LOL....that's what I need to teach mine to do;)!
I have all all the slots open on my feed mills....I hardly ever make sheep feed as wool is very easy to buy (and I hate seeing my sheep shivering) I usually use one feed mill for cow feed and one feed mill for chicken feed because for some reason my cows and chickens seem to think they need to eat very time I turn around:p Because my goats and pigs are not quite as greedy as the cows and chickens, I throw goat feed and pig feed in to each mill in enough time to have it ready when they get hungry.:)
Oh and and jam is awesome!
I run two mills, all slots maxed out. I only collect eggs when I collect the milk, so that cuts down a bit on the amount of chicken feed needed. If I need more eggs, I will buy them. I have only 8 goats (don't need more).
I keep 5 feedings of chicken feed on hand (90), 4 feedings of cows (60), three feedings of pigs and goats (45), and three feedings of goats (24).
When I load my mills I split what I need to make between the two machines. so one machine will have 3 chicken, two cow, 3 pig, and one sheep. the other will have 3 chicken, three cow, 2 pig, 1 sheep. I load the chicken and cow first, so they are finished while I'm still doing other tasks in the farm. as the slots come open, I'll load the remaining sheep and goat feed as needed. any excess slots will be loaded with goat feed and I sell the excess.
I seldom have hungry animals.
I have a jam maker with all slots open and running 24/7. I usually have what I need for truck orders, and sometimes have some left over for boat crates for friends. Sometimes I actually sell if I get too much of one kind. If I run out and can't make enough of one kind in a reasonable amount of time, I'll send Tom for it.
In case anyone is interested....
FEED MILL 1: cow, chicken, cow, chicken, cow, chicken, cow, chicken, cow
and just keep that going non-stop
FEED MILL 2: pig, pig, pig, pig, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, goat
When the spots open, I do goat, goat
also, I want to note I only have 10 cows, 12 chickens, 10 pigs, 10 sheep and 8 goats
Now, for the pig, sheep and goat feed I do this...
After that first cycle I have 12, 12 and 9
Feed the animals and I am left with 2, 2 and 1
I do the same cycle and now I have 14, 14 and 10
Feed the animals and I am left with 4, 4 and 2
The next cycle I do pig, pig, sheep, sheep, goat, goat, cow, cow, cow
After that cycle I usually have a good hour or two before I will need to feed the pigs again so I just keep making cow feed
I sell off my extra cow feed 5 for 60 coins (the max is 72)
I chose to do extra cow feed because I can make more coin off of it and it sells immediately off my RSS and the little people never ask for it
Last thing...
I HAVE LESS THAN 40 HOURS AND I WILL HAVE MASTETED MY FEED MILLS!
