I think I need the matching system explained to me a little better

I read a little about the matching system, and while I understand what they're basically saying, it still doesn't explain why someone with this:

I mean, he's 30 levels above me, with obviously a lot better setup, more and better troops, including a higher level of town hall. I mean, he has minions. I'm not even CLOSE to having access to minions! And to clarify one thing, he only had a little over 1400 trophies when he attacked me, and was probably Gold III instead of Gold II like he is now.

Part of the explanation I read about matching indicates (paraphrasing) "the system apparently feels you're ready to tackle bigger things". I hate to tell you, but there's NO WAY I would even consider attacking that guy if he came up in matching. I doubt I would even make it past his walls, let alone defeat any of his weaponry!

So, anyway, I'm not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ or anything. ♥♥♥♥ happens, you know? I just want to know how two people who are obviously so MIS-matched can be considered matched by the game's system.

That's just the way it is; if your unhappy, stay around 1200 trophies (Silver I low end), maybe not as much loot, but oh well...

This happens because people drop their trophies deliberatly. Also, people around 250 trophies above and below you can attack you.

I understand it's based on trophies; again, I did read the explanation Supercell provided. It just seems like the matching system should be based on more than just trophy count.

Like I said, I'm not "unhappy" or anything, and yes, I do stay on a low Silver I trophy count. I've found that if I get too high in trophy count they tend to match me up with people who obviously outrank me, and I lose a lot. At the lower count, I do win more than I lose, but I can't complain about the loot. On average, I'll pull in about 150K each of gold and elixir.

I do the same thing. I've had to intentionally lose trophies so I can stay at a level where my defenses tend to hold up, and I get matched with people I can beat fairly easily. I don't always get the 100%, but I do good on loot. I guess I need to keep my trophies closer to the 1200 mark. Unfortunately, I think I upgraded my town hall and initial trophy count too soon, before upgrading my troops and defenses, so I wasn't doing very good for a while there. I'm playing catch-up now, and most of my troops are now level 4. Still a way to go, though!

I'm the 7, and that should be about how much loot I normally make, perhaps you should try this (th 7+):
150 barbarians
Rest Archers.

So, does anyone else think the matching system should be based on more than trophy count, or does everyone think it's fine the way it is?

I've been trying different combinations of things, so I'm open to any suggestions. Right now I've had good luck with:

2 healers
6 wizards
12 giants
24 archers
24 barbarians
1 dragon

and then a rage and a couple lightning spells

My archers and barbs are both level 4, so I'll try your suggestion and see how it goes.

Okay, sometimes I would agree, but think about this:
Many th 7's, 8's, and 9's are farmers who look for easy loot to raid. If, say, you couldn't attack anyone ten levels below you except in revenges, then farming would become very pointless, and donating troops to your clanmates will greatly hurt you. Knowing that you should also be farming, what if all those easy 150k+ easy raids suddenly disappeared. You'd probably get a lot less loot each day, won't you?

All in all, I would say don't fix something that isn't broken.
