YouTubers back from Helsinki

Not that it's really that big a deal - I mean, it's not like they're reporting actual news - but is anyone else feeling uneasy about how Supercell wine-and-dined four of the most influential CoC YouTube personalities and how those four have been given the task of promoting the new update? Seeing them posing for photo ops wearing the Supercell employee hoodie kinda bugged me. To be honest, I think I prefer my sources operating autonomously. Like I said, in the grand scheme of things this is no big deal, but in terms of how we receive and interpret information about an ever-changing game many of us enjoy, this concerns me a little bit. I hope they are able to keep the CoC version of journalistic integrity tomorrow when the videos start coming out ��

Does it really matter? Whatever they show will be out in the not too distant future, in which case you can review it yourself at zero expense.

We aren't talking about wartime coverage here or something that is going to cost you a substantial (read any) amount of money.

Thank for trying to demean the thread, but as I clearly stated in my OP, it's not too big a deal. And be careful connecting money spent to ownership. By that logic, top 50 clans should control the game and its future. The truth is, when a company grabs hold of those reporting on it, said company will no longer answer to its customers - it shapes their expectations and reactions ahead of time, manufacting satisfaction. It's bad enough that complaints are censored in the forums by mods and yes-men; it's not weird for us to expect the youtubers with the biggest audiences to speak for the masses instead of at the masses. It's not wartime coverage, I know. But I wouldn't be writing about wartime coverage on this forum anyway.

I never connected money spent to ownership. I connected money spent to personal risk. For example, if you had to pay for the upgrade, biased reporting might be more of a concern if you rely on said reporting to make purchasing decisions.

Since you don't in this case, all you have to do is wait for the update to be released and then form your own conclusions. It will be rather obvious after the update is released whether or not the youtubers are simply being shills for SC. It's not like SC can serve us a turd and everyone will think it's great because Chief Pat or Godson says it is. Ultimately shilling for SC will likely not be in their best interest if by doing so they fail to connect with their audience.

I'm also not sure how you come to the conclusion that influencing youtubers somehow means that SC doesn't have to listen to its customers. At the end of the day it all comes down to money. People who aren't happy with the game aren't going to spend money on it. That said, SC does have a duty to manage expectations appropriately. Each gathering of this type they do, they get better at it. This is actually a good thing.
