My son (7 years old) wanted to upgrade one of his buildings. He did not have enough gold or elixir and he used the gems. He cancelled the upgrade and lost every gems he just got, about 500 which I bought to him just couple of hours before. Is this really so? Android Nexus 7 is the platform. If so, it is quite greedy imho.
I'm not sure but I think you're refunded Half the price of what you use for cancelling an upgrade.. So that must mean if you used 500 gems for the upgrade, 250 must've been refunded to your account when you cancel the upgrade. I know it happens with the resources, not sure about gems though.

the reason he got nothing back was because he spent the gems to get the x amount of loot. when you spend gems, it is just converting it into gold/elixer. he would get the loot back but not the gems because its already been converted. gem spending is permanent
Yeah, your son use the gems to buy gold to upgrade the town hall. When he cancelled it, he got refunded half in gold. BTW, this game is probably too complex for a 7 year old. He may get beat up a lot ... lol
You spent the gems to get the loot, and then you spent the loot. When you canceled, you get half the upgrade's gold back, rather than the gems. You do not get a refund on gems, only gold/elixir.Quote:

Also, if he spends gems for upgrades early on, he will only be digging further into your wallet as future upgrades will cost exponentially more. If he doesn't raid (the way you are supposed to get loot), and always uses gems, you will run out very soon! And he will quit and all the money will be lots.
Also, the game does warn about getting half the gold back, so it should be expected. Converting gems to resources (loot) and getting half the loot back (not gems) are two separate things.
If he does want to continue, he needs to learn to raid for resources, make up his mind about upgrades, and accept losses (both for resources and when people raid him), which is tough for a 7 year old
That stinks. I don't think SUPERCELL or anyone would be able to refund the gems or help your son out.
