Complete achievements, clear the trees and bushes in your village and participate in the forum contests.. That's about it, I guess.
Have you broken into the gold or crystal ranks yet? those achievements offer the biggest gem rewards and now that they boosted the gems found in obstacles thats a great source to farm. There isn't much beyond that
