it is only expensive if you are waiting on elixir to spend ie. idle laboratory, offense upgrades etc.
Dragons are not good for farming sub 150k(elix and gold) bases.
I only use them every now and again for donating, don't use them in my farming army as they are to slow to cook.
I'm currently at TH8 with level9 BK and more than half skull walls. I never used dragons.
Elixir is not an issue as my elixir storages are always full.
The training time is the problem. 30mins per dragon is just too much. Thus, making them inefficient for farming.
They're good at trophy pushing though, especially at the higher leagues (Master and Champion).
Dragons are expensive compared to other troops but it is because it is a tier 3 troop and it is pretty powerful. I'm a town hall 8 and I have no more elixir upgrades, so I have about 5.3 million elixir, so now is the time to use dragons to get gold or DE.
dragons are actually good for farming at TH8 because you should have finished most if not all of the elixir upgrades and be sitting on max storages. Also, drags allow you to pull off storage raids a lot easier than BAM/barch. While they are not recommended before your elixir upgrades are done, afterwards they are wonderful, especially if you don't have the time to sit down and play clash for 3 hours straight.
There are many army compo other than drag. Not just barch. And there are also many different base designs to break. You clearly bored early in the game and you want supercell to do something about thatQuote:
