You are a long way from farming TH8 to max if you just got dragons. They should have been level 2 at town hall 7, and you should be thinking of upgrading them to level 3 soon.

yea, i mean if you don't need them, don't use them. i don't really get what you are driving at. If you want to use them, and feel like they were needed, just farm higher.
I'm the opposite. They take too long. I only make them when I'm going to sleep. At a certain point, the game takes a large turn towards being mostly gold-based. I consistently have max elixir - even when using Pekkas, Wizards, etc. If anything, they take too long, not too expensive.
Once you've upgraded almost all the elixir upgrades in th7 and above, you will always have maxed out elixir. Since i have full gold/lix, and a 12h shield, i am training them to donate to the clan. Mass drag is also very OP if you know how to use them.
After my army composition could take out any base I found, there was no point in upgrading my barracks - hence why I decided to upgrade two of my barracks to try out dragons. It was all about training the troops I used to max.
I'm not "a long way from farming TH8 to max" because I've maxed out everything except for 35 walls and 2 of my Teslas. So now that you're aware of that, do you understand my point any better or still lost?
Everyone seems to be missing the point here that I'm willing to wait for dragon's creation time just to change up my army composition a bit because I was bored with my cheap army, but it's turned out that they're just too expensive to be worth it.
How about this, simplified for those who can't seem to grasp the question:
Is there a reason to use dragons while farming for resources if your normal/cheap army can do just as well and gain just as many resources in less than half the time?
Based on three days of raiding with dragons I think the answer is a resounding no.
If you're farming for resources dragons are not a viable option, since I can gain 350-450k elixir and gold per raid with my normal/cheap army in a little less than 12 minutes per build.
Possibly one of the biggest problems is it also takes a minimum of 30 minutes to create a dragon army composition, which I've found I can raid almost 3 times within that 30 minutes with my cheap army during that amount of time - reducing your resource gain even more by choosing to use dragons.
I think I've answered my own question, it would just be nice if more raiding compositions were viable during farming to make things a little less repetitive. Farming is, afterall, what the majority of players are doing until they decide to go for Champions league.
LOL, if you are almost max th8 why in the world are you worried about elixir?! Even more since you claim to make 350-450 resources per raid every 12 minutes. Sorry that makes zero sense. Your elixir stores should be maxed out at that rate.
Besides, you don't use drags to farm gold/elixir. You use it to farm DE from weak TH9/TH10.
No. The price is fine.
The problem is the training time. It's insane.
honestly what is wrong with you?
Is there any reason to use dragons if a cheaper army can do the job? You just keep answering your own questions. Either go to a trophy level where you need drags to crush it, or don't use drags, or use them because you like them. If you are late town hall your elixir doesn't matter at all.... just /endthread already.
I have no issues with the cost but the build time is just not worth it, especially if you are farming in crystal and below.
