Did not see this thread before and wanted to give my 2c.
1st - about me (yes, trying to get some credibility here)
I've played similar games since 2007 and had spent a fortune. Luckily, I was able to regain some money back due to others having similar addiction. I've played Mob Wars on Facebook for 2 consecutive years - no life, no sleep, no nothing but stress. Cheats, automation, politics and drama - all was involved. I however decided to leave after game was not as popular and had dropped from over 20 million users to just about 2 million per day and developer was trying to squeeze last few $, by implementing several key changes that tremendously changed the game and all top players with their top notch bevels and whistles became weaker by 50% or so overnight. Luckily my account was in the top 20 worldwide in 4 out of 6 ladder boards and someone with even deeper pocket wanted to buy my account (back then it was much easier to sell). Developer (whom I knew personally at that point and would never listen to top players) kept adding new features and some people kept spending money, but soon game died regardless of fancy add-ons. Nothing is everlasting and there is never a better time than now to make money, while the game is still in the top 10 and keep on bringing new players.
2nd - player and business perspective
While I understand your frustration, you and other top players had forced yourselves into this pickle by spending more and more $ on each update. You absolutely cannot expect gaming business listen to your concerns - that's not how it works. You have to realize three things - 1. play for fun and not stress 2. game created for profit and not for players satisfaction 3. there is always a new kid on the block ready to outspend you, to gain your top spot (just like shady and j.y.). Just because you've spent 5, 10 or even 100k of your real money does not make you entitled to any special status. Again, developers are in for the profit and not for making game better as many might think. This was and still relatively is a popular game and there is no better time than now to get last few $ out of addicts that don't mind spending more and more and the game becomes irrelevant.
You say "Give the players a chance to get it legitimately without having to gem" and they did. It just takes time and many people are fine with that. There are a handful of people however inclined to impatiently rush to the top and spend 401k only to realize next update is right around the corner pushing to spend even more money. Every player could easily not spend at all or spend a reasonable amount of money to support the game. Not judging if someone spends more than $50 or $100 on this game, as some can afford to spend whatever amount of money…
The bottom line – if top guys stop spending crazy money, there may be more or less fair field. But it won’t happen. Not to mention all the shady stuff like clan hopping to attack friends and friends letting others attack them for busting certain player’s status and overall clan stands. There will never be a fair field for average joe, one way or another.
P.S. One of my favorite games Assassin’s Creed had shipped 12 million copies. The game is $60 and there are no "add-ons" to spend on. Ubisoft is doing pretty darn good as a company. So all the talk some people start about supporting the game by spending $$$ is rubbish. Let’s be honest and say it’s a game addiction or bad spending habits. Again, not judging as I spend ridiculous amount of $ a month on starbucks.

Yes it would be nice to have your name there.
But judging on its current situation where even top 200 are hardcore gemmers, the more i do not want to be there.
I work hard and farm my ♥♥♥ off for my base and polish my skills on raiding using tier 1 troops, wall breaker AI, learning troops AI to better defend my base.
A post yesterday accuse me of gemming as i got my base at level 61. That sounded to me like "You cheated!" Yeah. This is from a farmer perspective.

Level 6 archers and Level 1 archers, provides the same gameplay, just stronger.

Just take a look at my The Unofficial Wall Breaker AI Discussion Thread !A difference of 1 box in the game can change alot, be it AI pathing, or diagonal wall breaker, its all up to the players themselves to explore the mechanics of the game, which is what I find interesting.
Not to mention this is a time management + strategy + tower defense game. Go have fun with excel spreadsheet.
A fellow member shared with us an excel builder and I used it and developed my own base, created troops planner even before someone shared it on the forum.

The point that you missed, is when gemmers start complaining that new updates are too expensive, they aren't the only ones that are suffering. If wait times are so long that they can't afford to gem them, players that don't use gems aren't likely to get those upgrades either.

Xbows are cool as long as you place them where they don't affect your mortars or wizard towers
Black cannons look cool
Level 6 archers are cool
Bearded giants are cool
Level 3 pekkas look cool
The damage maxed out mortars does is cool, but I still like the way that level 6 mortars looked
I used to think the barb king was cool, but now it's just another re usable pekka.
Anything else is just ok.
Others in my clan have more, and others in the forum have even more from farming.

I hear what the OP is saying, in some aspects this game has the potential to go on for quite some time. I think the problem with spending money, past a certain extent, is that you feel vested and are ultimately compelled to spend more as time goes on. Why? Probably because that's what you're used to doing, the fast and easy way. And, if that's how Aram wants to play, so be it.
As a non-gemmer, I see things a little differently: I've spent $40 and don't feel tied to this game whatsoever, except for the challenge and good times w/my clanmates. I'm sure most of us will stop playing eventually, so might as well enjoy the game or move on.
I think everyone on the leaderboard should be shameful for spending too much in this game just to get their names out there. People who are not in the leaderboards are the legit pros. :cool:
