Upgrade them! You can never go wrong with high level collectors.
Place the sotrages further out in your base and use them as tanks

You can also queue dragons in barracks to donate to clan members in their CCs. I personally try to queue up dragons when done raiding so when I get back online later I can donate several dragons to fellow clan members then get back to building regular farming army with a small dent in the maxed elixir from dragons.
Yes, but I just keep them in my base. It only happened to me at TH7 and TH8.
AT TH7: I had an egg-ish base so I just kept my elixir on the inside. I was very proud of myself on that base. It was my first base that was successful that I made. It wasn't 100% successful, but it did really well. I was very happy.:cool:
AT TH8: Well, now I'm stuck with wall farming on DE farming, so I just keep my elixir protected where my gold would normally go, and keep my gold exposed cuz I'd always have like less than 50K gold available so there's nothing to really lose.

Train expensive troops to donate to your clanmates.
