build a cheap army then attack alot barbarians and archers is what i use

It is my understanding that "farming" is a three step process.
The first step is to create a farming base. This is a base that prioritizes defending resources, more specifically storages. Typically this will force you into sticking your Town hall outside of all walls with little to no defense surrounding it, BUT THIS IS A GOOD THING. Leaving your Town hall outside will attract "town hall snipers" or people just looking for a quick trophy pick up, and will leave you less vulnerable to high level attackers who can easily 100% you. So by giving up your Town hall, you can actually save tons of resources, assuming your attacker just takes the Town hall and leaves.
The second step is training a cost-effiecient army, such as a full camp of archers. This allows for a potentially staggering net gain of resources.
The last step is to find a base that has a lot of loot available, but not just in storages. Typically the highest yielding raids come from inactive players who fail to collect the resources in their pumps and mines. SO KEEP AND EYE OUT for collectors that look full of resources (if you are unfamiliar with what a full pump or mine looks like, just don't collect a couple at your home base for a while and compare them to your collected ones).
Once you have mastered these three steps you be well on your way to farming
