I would like to know what the clash of clans players have to say about what type / types of troops work best for defending. I have heard so many troop combos or people just use wizards or archers. Please leave feed back.

Archers and wizards. Just like the speed, range and splash dmg.
I personally like wizards, dragons and archers in that order.
Minions archers or Wizards!
Witches are beastly but costly. Daily grind defenders are wiz and archers.
Archer barb mixed cc was popular in early 2013 at champ - the idea is that barbs provide a bit of a meat shield for your archers. That cc is still effective as a hog defence cc - is releases slowly which is good if you have a centred cc... And archers and barbs spread rather than bunch ... The slow release make it a reasonable hog defence cc.
The best cc troop by far for defence is witches... Here are three combos worth a try:-
1. Wiwi cc - 1 witch 4 wiz then 2 archers or a minion... This cc protects the high damage low Hp wiz by giving them some skeleton protection
2. Witch cc - 2 witches 1 wiz 2 archers the usual combo. Lots of skeletons to distract both air and ground troops from attacking your defence.
3. Witch-loon cc - 2 witches 1 balloon 1 arch/barb. The skeletons draw the fire from attacking witches and wiz - while the balloon creeps over and then wipes the attacking troops with splash damage
If you face a lot of ground attack - air defence combos that are effective are
1. Dragon - 1 drag 2 balloons or 1 drag 2 wiz 2 archers. The latter good against ground and air. All splash damage but dragon dies quickly if they drop a high level queen
2. Balloons - 6 balloons - useless against air attack but effective vs ground and very effective against low Hp troops. 6 max balloons have over 3200 hitpoints and do 972 splash damage per second - pretty nasty :)
Do try a valkyrie with aracher or wizz
Best cc defence troops are
* dragon
* archers
* wizz
* minions
* valk (not alone as it can attack air troops)
Worst cc defence troops:
* pekka
* golem
* goblins
* giants
I have not listed wall breaks as worst troops. As those can sometimes play good giving splash damage to a group of archers or barbs... still not a recommended cc defence troop.

I love witches and wizards in the cc ( barbs filler ). As the Barbs run ahead, the wizards slowly make their way forward, behind them the witches are already producing lil skellies, all the while the whole group have split up, making it so hard to lightning.

wars and stuff we do 212 that is 2 wtches 2 wizards and 2 barbs/archs which is 75% the cause of our wins
