Ok follow along and see if I'm on the right path.
Assuming the count resets with each achievement
First takes 8 bars
2nd takes 400
Last takes 3800
Total 4208.
With five smelters, each needs to make 842 (rounding up) bars
I averaged the time to make each bar it's 11 un mastered and about 10 mastered. So total time 8420 hours at mastered and 9362 un mastered. So since mastery doesn't take too long, let's round up to 9000 hrs. That's about 417 days? Not sure if this is right.
I googled helter smelter achievement time and got just two hits before they started in on Manson. One was this thread and the other was a thread from last year when another player said it took him 250 days. He may have just been talking about the last one. At any rate. It's a long time. I wonder what the developers would say. I wonder if they meant for it to take as long as it does. Not sure what the reward is. BSH 3 gives 50 diamonds but you have to do more than just cue up the machine and wait. So interesting.

Nerdy enough too make a simple equation out of it.
Something you need to know first.
1st achievement - 8 bars.
1st achievement - 400 bars.
1st achievement - 3800 bars.
1st mastery - 390 hours
2nd mastery - 1540 hours
3rd mastery - 6180 hours
Here I declare some variation.
A=How many bars you have left to complete the achievement. Calculate it by yourself. :p
M=How many hours you have left to complete the mastery. Calculate it by yourself. :p This number is 0 if you have already three-starred it.
S=The number of smelter that you have. Maximum is 5
B=The average hour that you take to make '1 bar'. This number vary from person to person. If you only make silver bar then B=8. I think someone that make a totally mix type of metal should use B=12
Here's how many 'day' you have left until you complete your achievement.
(3M+17AB)/480S
Don't ask me how did I just calculate it. ;) I simplify it as much as possible into this equation.

HM3 is the last of the two achievements remaining for me, the other being Citizen Kane of which I have fewer than a hundred ads remaining. I keep all 5 smelters going 24/7 with four slots in four of them, 3 in the 5th, and I still have nearly 1400 bars to go. I've been playing right at 6 months so figure I have at least a couple more months to go, probably three. I am hoping that SC will have added more achievements in that time. <hint hint!>
I did hit the Big Game Fisher during the last fishing event and it startled me with all the bells and whistles because I was concentrating so hard on getting a big fat fish. :)
Sometimes I am tempted to buy smelters and the jewellers shop just because the jewellery look pretty and then
I would have 19 production buildings but then I decide not to again. Oh well, I will just go and goad my goats again.
At this point I agree with you. To try for this achievement now after so long would be way too overwhelming. You'd have over a year to add to the time you have already played. Shudder.Quote:
